The Sound of Music did well for ITV last year so this should do well.

Having seen The Play That Goes Wrong and The Comedy About A Bank Robbery in London, both from Mischief Theatre, the group also responsible for Peter Pan Goes Wrong, I am really looking forward to this.

10 forgettable years.

At least that's one BBC schedule change over this fortnight that I can get fully behind!

I'm not sure I agree with this. In the past, for example, sitcoms such as One Foot in the Grave, Birds of a Feather and Keeping Up Appearances often set their Christmas episodes in different / foreign locations - familiar characters and scenarios with a twist. Peter Pan Goes Wrong presents a familiar narrative with a comic twist, not to mention the fact that Mischief Theatre has been phenomenally successful in London theatre terms, not only with this production but the others I mentioned in my post above. I'm sure it won't be to everybody's taste - and I'm not for one minute suggesting it will be a spectacular ratings hit - but this is one that potentially appeals to across generations (based on the audiences I have seen at Mischief's other plays).

Are ITV doing another musical this year?

The live thing was pointless (see what I did there! - but it was).

But the musical itself was jolly good and like the pantomimes they used to do will be screened for years so paying for itself that way.

I heard rumours of Grease or something like that, but nothing firm. But they must know if it is being done by now.

ITVs new teatime quiz Ashpabetical (according to the thread in here anyway - in real life Alphabetical) has had a mixed reaction from viewers.

It was rather heavy on the questions and started off quite slowly but the end game was a little more lively. We will see how it does.

Very unfortunate for them - though - that it kicked off with Jeff Stelling making a joke about Aston Villa and one of the early questions was about a taser!

With today's tragic news (an ex Aston Villa player dying after being tasered by the police) that is the sort of ill luck a pre recorded episode did not need. They could not have swapped episodes either as being the first ever it explained why the reigning champion WAS that when there had been no previous show.

Not sure there will be anyone picking them up on it in the media as it was just a sad coincidence.

Crikey, that was unfortunate.

I didn't see the programme today but I'm pleased ITV has given Jeff Stelling a chance on something like this - probably one of the most likeable presenters on TV at the moment and proved he's just as good away from sport when he fronted Countdown very successfully.

Cash Trapped Consolidated Ratings:

Including +1:

Mon: 2.82m
Tue: 2.29m
Wed: 2.11m
Thu: 1.87m
Fri: 1.87m

Not a great trend as it went down every single day before finally stabilising on Friday. Is that enough for a recommission? I saw the Wednesday episode and wasn't overly impressed.

In the middle of Summer though, Thursday's and Friday's figures are not too bad and surely with a bit of tweaking could go up. I think it should be recommissioned.

As an aside, the omnium cycling on BBC One is surely going to run beyond 22:00...

Here's how Tipping Point did before Cash Trapped:

Including +1

Mon: 2.03m
Tue: 1.85m
Wed: 1.80m
Thu: 1.85m
Fri: 1.77m

Look how close Thursday's episode was to Cash Trapped on the same day. The Quiz show in the 5pm slot needs to be doing better ideally. But yes, for the Summer months, the numbers aren't too bad all things considered.

Does the news really have to be on at 10.00 on BBC1? Surely for the Olympics they could have put it on BBC2 or is it law?

BBC just messed up the channel change for the Olympics yet again there. No crossover period meaning missed live action and Balding was cut off mid link.

If they dropped some of those trails that earlier on people were excitedly going on about, this sort of sloppy stuff wouldn't happen.

They've been pretty much the only poor thing about the BBC Olympics coverage.

That's like saying someone died in a car today, so no one should make a joke about Skoda's. This mad thin skinned world we now live in.

For a broadcaster trying to cover 26 sports and to provide something for everyone, I think the Beeb are doing a fantastic job. The odd blip is to be expected considering the size of the project.

Yep, ITV should stop filming immediately. They cannot commission something so similar to Death In Paradise. I mean one's a watered down murder mystery and the other a medical series. The only similar being that they are abroad.
