Won't ITV put the racing on the main channel on Saturday afternoons?

I assumed The Chase using a 'canned' audience was a reasonably significant cost cutting measure.

I cannot stand it, why just not bother? It's obvious it's fake.

Let the viewers make up their own mind whether to laugh or not.

Jim Ross said that World of Sport wrestling was filmed as a two hour show and is a pilot with a hope of bringing it back. Now he didn't make clear if he meant WoSW back or WoS itself. With itv4 having the horse racing next year, I guess WoS could return.

The show was filmed with 9 cameras in the Voice's Manchester studio. Over 80,000 people applied for tickets!
It's going to be shown on a key Holidays date. Ross said Xmas Eve, Day and NYDay were all possibles. The ITV suits took him to Chinatown and told him over dinner that they have high hopes for WoSW.

I'd imagine it would go to itv4 long-term but I could see how itv might love the younger and male demos at 4pm on a Saturday. It would certainly bring a potentially significant boost to itv4.”

I think it unlikely World of sport skews younger (kids aside) or more male than anything else. It's also worth noting that advertisers would consider wrestling the lowest of the low brow. Also a big problem they have is it's likely the audience will know all the people there are people WWE don't want for whatever reason.

Believe it or not, I'm actually looking forward to it and hope it succeeds, but at the same time, I don't expect miracles.

Seems to me that the biggest three hits last night gave each other a boost.

Strictly top on the overnights but will probably fall to third in the consolidated. But, heck it's a good third - 11m+

I'm A Celebrity truly is the biggest jewel in ITV's crown now and brilliantly scheduled for the Christmas advertisement. ITV may be a little disappointed that it's all done and dusted in less than four weeks, including the wind-up Coming Out programme, but that's one of the show's plus points and what makes it event TV.

Delighted with the Planet Earth rating. It has been brilliantly scheduled. And episode 1's consolidated ratings make it the fourth highest rated programme of the year so far, behind the football, Bake Off (which of these two was the highest?) and Britain's Got Talent. Could well move above BGT with episode 2, although a higher overnight will probably mean a lower timeshift.

Funny gag about Channel 4 already buying tomorrow's Baking themed Bush tucker trial for £75 million!

And you can only imagine how much Sainsburys paid for the entire ad break there, with 10 million watching.

Elsewhere, on Sunday.......

Isn't Countryfile running a bit low? Isn't it usually averaging above 7m by now?

The Next Great Magician doing okay. H says ITV should be putting The Chase on against Strictly because it would be good for 3m+. Well, Magician is doing that and, as we saw last week, it skewing young. So ITV should be quite happy with it.

Solid start for My Mother And Other Strangers. The audience did drop over the hour but it was getting just under 5m at the end. The reviews haven't been very good, though. However if it can get say 4.2m overnight and 5m consolidated, it might well get a second series because it's from Northern Ireland so it helps the BBC to meet its regional quota. Like Our Girl getting a new series with similar figures because it skewed younger than the average BBC drama.

⅔ of wrestling viewers are male and does better with under 45s than the US average.

They'll have no trouble filling the roster with quality wrestlers. Whether they can create the soap storylines to hook people in is going to be key. I assume it'll be an hour long and have a very NXT feel.

It would probably get 10-13 week seasons twice a year filling the gaps without racing, tennis, 6 Nations and the TdFrance. Maybe they see it at a 5pm show a little like Nina Warrior.

You are right though, advertisers used to be very wary of it. I think that's changed a little as that demo is so hard to reach now. I can't imagine they'd allow any gambling adverts though. But the likes of fast food and movies always love it.
The problem in America though is that the audience is poorer and less likely to have gone to college. Golf or rugby union it definitely is not.

The talent but without the formats would sound like a Channel 4 thing to do!

surely ITV decide how long the run is and they've decided the 4 weeks from mid Nov to 9 Dec is best for maximising their ad revenue. Though i'm surprised they've not extended it by a week or two to take them closer to Christmas but they must have their reasons for not doing so. One being the celebs dont want to be in Australia right up to just before Christmas.... there's the panto season back home for the likes of Biggins and Joe Pasquale!

If next autumn's Sunday ITV schedule is:

7.00pm Emmerdale
7.30 Coronation St
8.00 Factor Results

... what is best for BBC One?

5.50pm Countryfile
6.50 Strictly Results (this gave Emmerdale a pasting in the past.)
7.35 News
8.00 Antiques Roadshow
9.00 Drama
10.00 News

or

5.50pm News
6.15 Countryfile
7.15 Strictly Results
8.00 Antiques Roadshow
9.00 Drama
10.00 News

or

5.35pm News
6.00 Antiques Roadshow
7.00 Countryfile
8.00 Strictly Results
8.30 Ninety-minute drama
10.00 News?

Aren't the main problems with networking RIver City :
a) the actors would be entitled to higher fees
and
b) it's cobblers?

The first looks the best option to me. Personally I would prefer:

6.00 News
6.30 Strictly
7.15 Countryfile
8.00 Antiques Roadshow
9.00 Drama

Although that would involve cutting Countryfile to 45 minutes which they've done before very occasionally. I don't think it would go down well with some viewers if they shortened it like that for Strictly's duration, but it's just neater.

I guess no scenario is going to be absolutely ideal. You certainly wouldn't want to start Strictly any earlier than that, but I do like to see the 8pm and 9pm junctions being hit.

EDIT: Also, I'd prefer something else entirely at 8.00. But that's another matter. Can only work with the materials I've got etc.

SCD at 7:15. Better still is at 7:00 and let it slap both Emmerdale and Corrie. ITV might get a rude awakening.
Or maybe the soaps will demonstrate that SCD has a softer belly than we realise.

ITV would be bwtter served with Emmerdale at 6:30 to counter tbis. Last night showed that there is a large audience to be had up to 10:30pm.

Your idea is good. I realise Strictly would be a tiny bit early, but it would overlap Emmerdale, and it would give Countryfile a start on Coronation St.

Didn't get the chance to comment earlier but I'm A Celeb, PEII and Strictly all getting over 10m is phenomenal.

I personally find I'm a Celeb to be all a bit stale these days, but the format still clearly works, but I really enjoyed the launch and tonight's episode, so they might just have won me back over with the cast.

It's noticeable in IAC that they are all happy types getting on and having a laugh.
I wonder if the success of GBBO and Strictly, both pleasantly nice through and through, has made them think.
XFactor isn't as abrasive either. Simon is much more mellow and they seem determined to have a laugh.
Life's hard enough as it is, why watch unpleasantness on tell at night!

You also need not to be bored out of your skull... IAC was hardly all smiles last year.
