Sad but unsurprising that DS finds itself in a situation like this. With the fantastic community that exists here, it really shouldn't be a struggling website, but strategically they've made a lot of errors in terms of the direction they've gone in content wise and so I can fully understand why it's no longer as profitable as it once was.

I did fear the worst when they got took over initially and a lot of the real good guys like Neil Wilkes left, and unfortunately it has deteriorated a lot since then. I don't even look at the main page now - and yet for a few years it was my home page and I would read whichever stories interested me before moving onto the forums. Them cutting the ratings articles was the last straw for me, but entirely predictable as it wasn't in keeping with the more showbiz oriented site they were going for.

Oh well. I'm sure we'll work something out if the worst came to the worst. But the mods are currently claiming the forums will not be closing, so hopefully it needn't come to that.

Dan.

Cold Feet launched with 9.13m, so it was close.

"the BBC shouldn't ever buy another series again just in case another channel might one day get it into its head to bid more at renewal" - I never said that or even implied it. I said if another terrestrial channel wants to out bid the BBC for content then they should let them have it rather than getting into a bidding war. For example I think they did the right thing with GBBO they made a sensible bid, probably in the full knowledge other broadcasters would probably bid more.

It is a bit weird, obviously it's the first full series for nearly two years with Catsdown now the behemoth it is. What's perhaps surprising is that, new captains aside, it is the same programme. You'll note that it says it will "first air" on More4 which led me to assume it would be repeated later in the week on C4, but it isn't. And because it isn't I wondered if it might be non-topical, as has sometimes been the case with this series, so they could show it on C4 in a few weeks, but it isn't, it's still about the week's news. So seemingly it will never be on C4 which seems a bit of a waste, especially when C4 themselves are showing Gogglebox and Catsdown repeats at 10pm.

Also, I wondered if on More4 it might skew a bit older, but that's not the case either - the panellists if anything have got younger so far. Obviously in that piece it says one of the main points is to spotlight new talent, which is fair enough, but who'll see them on More4? As you say, it would make more sense on E4, especially given the people they're booking who mostly seem to come from E4 programmes. So I have not got a clue what the idea is.

It's sort of going back to the original concept of More4 when it began a decade ago, which was going to have lots of ABC1-skewing comedy and had Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Daily Show and so on, but that's not what we've had on the channel for many years so I don't know who'll even know it's there.

I don't mind the series, mind, though I didn't like the comedian on the first episode who delivered all her gags facing the audience. I know the whole point of the show is just to recycle your stand-up material, but at least try and make it look like a natural conversation and look at the other panellists!”

Bold is the part I don't get. First run on E4, repeat off-peak on C4 would make some sense, but a More4 exclusive makes none. More4's haven't shown Curb and Daily Show for many years now as you say, so one comedy among lifestyle/factual is just out of place. Any ideas how it's rating there?

Any idea why 2006 was so low? Did England play that night?

I'm predicting high ratings for Blackpool weekend in SCD. 10.7m I think. 6.1m for X Factor.
I think we could see 9m for IAC.

I think Sundays will continue to be big. SCD 11m+ Planet Earth 10.7m X Factor 6.4m IAC 9.5m

Never really watched Top Gear, but had a quick peek this morning to see what the 4K/UHD is like.

Have to say it's stunning and the opening sequence is quite amusing.

It's in HDR too, but my TV is one technology behind for that.

Probably just an odd year. CIN seems to dip and rise quite often.

I reckon 7-8m tonight.

Low night for BBC last night. I can imagine The Apprentice will get a big tineshift as its down 800,000 viewers. EastEnders still looking low. Last week had it's highest rating for a long time but this week it's been under 6m every night.

No sign of DIY SOS in that BBC1 top 3.

I'm sure EastEnders will get a big boost at Christmas with big storylines. *cough*

Meh, The Apprentice drop was to be expected. It's like BGT with the Eurovision clash, they seem to just accept it instead of moving the show an hour earlier - which would help figures.

All they'd need to do to move it to 8pm is censor a few swear words for 3 weeks. But I know it won't happen, not this year at least.
