Weird that it went up in spite of the clash.

The second half of the episode was really boring IMO, Joel doing the trial was the good part last night.

I disagree actually, I liked the second half of last night. They're quite an interesting bunch and it's enjoyable to watch so far. Agree that Joel doing the trail was the best part though, he's probably my preferred winner at this (early) stage.

Really good rating for it last night. Very surprising to see it go up despite the clash. Perhaps the longer running time hurt it on Wednesday? The Apprentice didn't hold up too badly. Personally I gave up on this series after the dull first episode, but the ratings have been decent enough.

How is The Apprentice holding up in the officials?

Its overnights aren't too bad for a show that's been going for over 10 years, but I am of the impression that it consolidates well still?

A drop in share but a small increase in ratings. More viewers around then.

Incidentally, I've noticed that the wonderful Last Kingdom has made it to Netflix. Excellent as I've got the last few to catch-up on before the new season.

That's a good rating, and it went up despite a clash with the younger skewing The Apprentice, which itself its down YOY from last years 5.03m.

At least it has a bit of stregth going into CIN tomorroe, which I imagine will be up YOY, based on the fact its a tribute to Terry Wogan.

Yes- it's often consolidated in the region of 35-40% in the officials. An ~5m show timeshifting 2m = a timeshifting beast!

Add to that the iPlayer figures, which last year went as high as ~1.8m, and you see the show has still got it.

The Apprentice is a bit of a farce this year; none of them seem ready to be Lord Sugar's Apprentice - he must be close to losing his cool completely! Though it makes more interesting TV, the race to the bottom can become repetitive after a while. I'm not writing this to criticise The Apprentice for no reason but as a potential reason why it didn't hold up quite as well as previous years. Maybe being opposite an I'm A Celebrity episode being supported by Coronation Street didn't help - it hasn't had to face that recently.

I'm A Celebrity picked up a good figure against a show which presumably shared more of it's demo and rated higher than The Missing. I'm not sure why ITV don't make Coronation Street into a 60 minute episode followed by a 90 minute I'm A Celebrity tonight but maybe there'd be claims of being overly competitive against a charity telethon? I do think the producers have got it spot on with the new entrants going in yesterday and live trial tonight, keeping additional interest in the show against tougher opposition.

DIY SOS was always going to struggle to get into the top three as it was against the soaps. It'll have a tough time of it next week too.

I'm glad they don't. It's possibly my favourite show on terrestrial TV so I'd hate for it to be edited for no reason. It doesn't need to be moved as the overnight rating matters Bo Diddley.

Dad's Army film on Sky Cinema today. There'll be a few early downloads not picked up by BARB.

I don't think they're too bothered. Most years these episodes consolidate well and end up being much closer to the non-clash episodes. And 4.8 is still much better than most of their shows achieve in a 9pm slot throughout the week.

Are we really just shrugging off a rating of 5.5m in November for a clash free EastEnders? That's an awful figure relatively speaking. If Emmerdale had sunk lower then at least it could be explained away as soap fatigue but that's holding up well - especially considering the opposition; The One Show pulled in a good figure last night. Maybe they should suddenly switch off the autocue and see what Alex Jones does after last night's episode?

Very strong figure for MasterChef: The Professionals; I wonder whether that'll be promoted before too long? I can't remember what Closer to the Enemy got last week bit that looks like a respectable figure for it considering what it was up against. Jack Taylor wilted slightly on Channel 5 but it seems to be an odd date to try and launch a drama with everything else which was on. The network struggled across the evening overall. Channel 4 had a steady night with The Secret Life of the Zoo and Grand Designs pulling in reasonable if unspectacular ratings. I'm guessing the 10pm show was a repeat of either Catsdown or Gogglebox, hence not being in the top three?

Yes its the Live trial on I'm A Celeb tonight and I think the 90minute run time will affect it less tonight than on Wednesday.

But I'm expecting a bigger than usual drop tonight due to CIN, but also during the ad breaks, I imagine many will turn over to BBC1 at this point, dragging down the av.

That is a dire rating for EE. This will be, what 4 weeks now Emmerdale has been out front and outrating the BBC1 soap.

But 5.5m in mid November is awful. It wouldn't be so bad if the share was over 30%.

To me that really begs the question why not schedule it as:
19.00 Emmerdale
19.30 Coronation Street
20.30 I'm A Celebrity

And take advantage of EastEnders' absence? As I said before, I guess there'd be accusations thrown at them that were being overly competitive against a telethon but they're already fighting back slightly by having the live trial tonight instead of Sunday.

As it is they'll lose viewers at 8pm and not get them back.

Yes, that is what I'd do. And competeing like this isn't going to stop viewers donating anyway.

Plus there are alot of people who dont watch CIN.

I can't hear the words Children in Need without hearing the Old Gits.

I always feel other channels should do well against Telethons. Awful television for a good cause.

In recent years I've felt that Text Santa has been better television than Children in Need though it pulled in nowhere near the same amount of money.

I too wonder what ITV didn't schedule this way, either. They could argue they were scheduling like this so that the main news could stay at 10pm. But in a period when the schedule is heavy in soap, jungle and weekend LE, it's good that they can still find room for some factual programming. But, yes, it does open them up the issue in your last sentence, Fudd.
