Strictly was amazing tonight and hopefully it gets near 11m, they shouldnt have put the 4 best dancers all at the beginning and spread them throughout the show but Louise and Kevin`s Paso was absolutely stunning and had me on my feet

Can we all agree that even if you dont like the show the Strictly band and singers create an absolute incredible sound no matter what style of song they are doing, either it be the instrumental of the Paso tonight or the vocals on Gangnam Style last week.....they can perform anything and have the XFactor!!!

The problem I have with talk of overmarking is that it really doesn't matter what the scores are provided that the leadeboard reflects a reasonably fair ordering of the couples. It is after all only the order that counts in the final tally. Whether you're first by 1 judges' point or 15, and whether you score 30 or 40, you're still only one place ahead of second when everything's added up. So the question is whether you were satisfied that Danny's was the best on the night not whether you personally judged the dance as a 10 or an 8 (although I actually didn't see any reason not to give 10s myself).

Not sure if it's been mentioned before but In Plain Sight is taking the Wednesday 9pm slot on ITV after I'm A Celebrity finishes. They're already promoting it.

Tonight is the first time the content of SCD has actually been discussed this year in this thread I believe, it seemed to me the people who praised it to the hilt didn't actually watch it...

I watched it and it seemed fine to me - very entertaining show; great production values as ever. Personally I don't understand where people are coming from in suggesting it was a poor edition with no atmosphere but then I'm no dance expert. The Blackpool audience seemed to be loving it.

This week's punchbag just for the sake of it: Strictly Come Dancing.

Maybe I was watching a different show.

There fixed it for you

The minute any criticism of SCD emerges, its all hands on deck.

If people don't like Strictly, they're entitled to not like it. And they're entitled to express so. But I thought it was a perfectly entertaining edition. Or am I not allowed to say so?

Also "all hands on deck"? Am I reading a different thread to you? Apart from a few posts on Sunday mornings along the lines of "Good rating for Strictly", I don't think you can say there's a huge Strictly fanbase on this thread. And I'll try not to mention the irony of your punchbag edit to my post - this thread being a second home for an X Factor fan extraordinaire.

Which means it is going to be on the day after Rillington Place. That's unfortunate as there are similarities between the two.

Strictly spoiler and question below..

Spoiler
Can the judges stop Ed Balls from making the final or even winning it

That makes sense. I was wondering whether they were really going to have an episode on Christmas Eve and then a Christmas Special too but that the way my source had it.

I don't think anybody was praising Strictly to the hilt. All we were saying is that 'dreadful' and 'awful' were ridiculously overblown and wildly inaccurate descriptions of this episode.

Since Lygo took against the horrific murder story it seems they're trying to pump them out of the system as fast as they can. The scheduling of Paranoid and The Level on successive nights being a case in point.

To use ADP's word of the evening....

It's all subjective. Which really can be said about critiquing most forms of art.

Sorry, since he took over?
Both dramas look quite interesting though both may struggle due to their scheduling. Fair play to the Beeb, they are throwing ammo at XF and IAC this year.

Won't be reflected in the ratings though.”

I agree with this. The camera work was just shocking you couldn't see some of the dancing. I don't mind backing dancers if they are just that in the back. The dances that were ruined in particular were Claudia and Louise. They got in the way and made the dance disjointed. I don't know how much practice they had with the backing dancers but it wasn't enough. Their costumes were wrong colour against the floor. Don't know if it is cutbacks on outside broadcast but it was a production problem. The scoring issues I think is partly down to public at home not seeing properly what judoes saw.

Oh yes. Just because Strictly isn't so obviously manipulated doesn't mean it isn't. They get Ed through as many weeks as they want, then will cut him down. In many ways it's the same way as The X Factor target their acts - distracting lighting, clashing colour, demotivating comments (whether positive or negative) from the judges, going early in the running order, either sandwiched or followed by a big performance to memory hole him. They also have the marking system in their arsenal; at the moment Craig is marking Ed quite harshly - if he gets a six or above off him it might be because they're trying to quell the sympathy vote.

Oh I know SCD is like all of the others in that there's plenty of fakery in the show.

Ed hasn't been in the bottom two (I think) so I'd imagine he's got a real shot at making the final. I wonder if the BBC want him in the final like Honey G and the XF final.

I recommend people take a look at the Now 95 album that's being advertised - you can see why XF has largely ditched current music and are now starting off the show with a song by Elvis Presley.

Wise.

Note it's not the BBC who decide it's the public vote, Craig may annoy a few on his marks, but is honest, he explains why. Many people have their favourites so vote for them.

One thing that's not subjective, is when a certain show is defined by the highlight of, popcorn being poured over people's head in an immature way. The few positive tweets were about popcorn and not about performing. How low can you go.

It is good that the BBC have not waved a white flag this year, normally they do against, BGT, Downton, IAC and XF which may inflate those ratings more.

To be honest BBC1 only gave up on the Monday at 9 pm slot which in the main has typically been PSB .

The BBC has seen how weak XF is and scheduled boldly Planet Earth and Michael McIntyre, that gives a good alternative, weekdays at 9 pm bar Monday has great alternatives, looking forward to David Walliams series. Looks like a gem.

I really enjoyed it too. I always find there's a great atmosphere in the Blackpool show that is almost contagious. And Claudia Winkleman makes the show for me - I absolutely love her humour.

As for the dances themselves, there is a great mix of dancers left. I love seeing people of all abilities having a go, watching people who are already technically great can be a bit boring. I see what people mean about the camera work, it was a bit dodgy in places.

As people have already predicted, I think last night's show will rate in the mid 10s. I don't think the criticism will affect any figures going forward.
