True. But they do have a larger older audience that enables most of their programming output to rate well.

For instance SCD has almost the same 16-24 skew as Meet The Parents with just 2m. Therefore the majority of SCD audience is older viewers, which enables it to stay strong.

I am by no means trying to degrade the older audience, I'm just explaining why BBC1 in most slots stays solid. Then when they try to skew young (The Getaway Car) it flops. In a similar way to ITV with MTP. But ITV has less of a strong base as BBC1. MTP didn't even launch well.
Ok. Possibly...but like you and me, people will only watch what they want to watch.

The not-so secret with BBC Strictly (and probably IAC too, although it doesn't appeal to me) is that it is a family show which appeals to all, hence it's high ratings. If you target a specific demo at the expense of the rest, ratings will be affected.

BBC One has a strong and loyal following because the quality and variety is there...and it is a trusted brand. The nation knows (by-and-large) that BBC One will deliver. People won't watch and stay with a channel if the output is narrow and the quality is inconsistent.

The Getaway Car was a flop because it was poor. It would have flopped on any network. The reality is, it is extremely hard to create a format which a) has mass appeal b) has sustainability.

Brilliant for SCD - is that the biggest gap ever between it and X Factor? X Factor barely getting over 6m even with the repeat included.
I think so.
Apart from the Doctor Who anniversary episode is that the first time X Factor has been beaten on a Saturday Night by a non Strictly show?

Or you could come at it from the angle of: the highest Saturday show since the first live show and the second consecutive week of rising. despite stronger competition.
But you won't because of your dumb & petty agenda.

STRICTLY COME WINNING Strictly Come Dancing gets 5 MILLION more viewers than X Factor as Ed Balls trounces Honey G in ratings battle

Ed Balls' dancing is proving far more alluring to viewers than the middle class rapper Honey G

On Saturday night the BBC ballroom dancing show won nearly twice the number of viewers than the ITV singing competition could muster.

Strictly peaked at more than 11.89 million viewers tuning in to watch the remaining celebrities salsa and tango their way across the dancefloor.

Unfortunately The X Factor could only manage a peak of 6.88 million, and that was after both Strictly and the following show aired.

Yet more bad news for X Factor followed as it struggled to take on Michael McIntyre’s Big Show on BBC One after Strictly had finished.

Strictly managed to tempt an impressive 51.4 per cent of all telly watchers last night, while its rival show could only muster up a peak of 31.8 per cent.

The X Factor faced a backlash from viewers after rapper Honey G was given a standing ovation by the audience.

The ‘rapper’ performed a mash up of It’s Like That / Getting Jiggy With It – which included her very own music video to start the performance. The excessive production didn’t go unnoticed though and Nicole Scherzinger couldn’t help pointing it out saying: “Production be on steroids.”

She also admitted that she was getting a little tired of the act, telling her: “Towards the end I started tot think am I seeing the same thing week after week.”

Those watching at home were less than impressed though and took to Twitter to complain about the glowing comments.

One person remarked: “It must be a fix If Honey G gets through this weekend I am not watching X factor ever again she's a joke.”

While another wrote: “Every year @SimonCowell bangs on about wanting someone with the X factor and then bigs up honey g, need to rename this show. Complete farce😒”

And someone else tweeted: “What about that the vote on the X factor app said 74% did not like it, so why is Honey G still in?”

Strictly Come Dancing beats X Factor in ratings by almost 5m viewers
BBC1 show’s Blackpool special is watched by average 10.7m, compared to talent contest’s 5.9m Strictly Come Dancing blew its rival The X Factor out of the water on Saturday night, attracting nearly 5 million more viewers than the ITV show on average.

The Blackpool special of the BBC1 dancing show, whose contestants include Ed Balls and Judge Rinder, enjoyed its highest peak audience figure of this series with 11.9 million viewers, and an average of 10.7 million viewers. That gave it a 47.9% share of the audience for its timeslot.

Are you kidding? Dave Arch's orchestra and singers are awesome. You do realise it was the band and singers playing "Gangnam Style" last week don't you? I couldn't tell the difference, they were so good.
Well the whole idea of dancing like this is that it has a live band and Strictly wouldn't be the same without it. I agree with you here, I think they do a fantastic job week in week out for what is no easy task.

According to The Sun (I know) ITV has signed for another three years of IAC
To be more accurate, ITV has signed Ant & Dec for another three years to include their present commitments of which IAC is one. It is unlikely that the show will be cancelled but it is still technically a possibility in which case an alternative would be needed to fulfil the contract.

IMDb has Taboo listed as a mini-series but if it's a big hit then I would think a return would not be inconceivable. HDM is a long way from screening so I'm far from sure that a Saturday night slot has even been discussed.

Great ratings fof SCD - if people are getting annoyed by aspects of it then it'll show next year if the issues carry on. You don't tend to give up on a show this late on.
There are no issues.

Some moan on here year after year but it never makes a difference to what is a very feel good show that continues to perform well in the ratings.

You could if your ratings are down and you're scrambling to find positives. It is what is is. Gets the demos, overall viewers are down, audience more or less unaffected by competition.

Without clicking on the link, let me have a guess.

Click bait story founded solely on a few needy attention seekers on Twitter that turns into 'Outraged Strictly Fans' therefore representative of the general public's opinion?
Never confuse regular viewers of a show with a few vocal ones that like shouting at the moon.

Tonight's ratings will be interesting, another rise for planet earth 2?
Not with ATP tennis on BBC2 featuring Murray v Djokovic for world number one.

It is and it's also the first time since Saturday 23rd November 2013 (the night of Doctor Who's 50th anniversary) that X Factor was 4th for the night in overnight ratings.

Bound to and not just the early starters as it's slot extends to 9pm and will go longer if the match does! Sport you watch live or not at all. Everything else you can record or use Catch-Up for later.

If things are happening on TV that I don't agree with, I'm going on Twitter to state that things are fixed and I'm never watching it again.

I saw Wayne Bridge put his hands in to his pockets.. proof that he cheated because how many blokes out there put their hands in their pockets?

Fix. Cheating. Farce. Disgrace. Disgusting. Joke. Never watching again.

I watch very little sport live. I just watched the darts on live pause and most of he sport I watch I watch 20 hours later (normally not knowing the result).

But yes, most watch live and the tennis should average a couple of million. It could peak over 3m between BBC and sky.

And the ones that say they'll never watch again often return and say they're never watching again. Seemed to happen every single week during X Factor's high rating period.

Not unless they've remade it in the style of Degas!

It happened a few weeks back after the 'racist' Strictly stuff. The best bit is, some of these people don't actually like the show and are trolling it. It's like ADP tweeting his displeasure about XF or DanR about The Voice.

That's not a shot at them.

But these articles are effective click-bait and some people do lap them up.

HDM involves New Line Cinema of Lord of the Rings fame and who were responsible for the big screen version released as The Golden Compass. Promises much although the film didn't do quite as well as they had hoped apparently.

I have to say I reckon "His Dark Materials" is a pretty awkward looking title.

It's a potential best of 5. Just depends on how Murray is from his previous long matches.
