The right thing to stay. Would of been madness to give up on that drama and go to the News.

I cant quite understand how we became so good at Cycling but its making for some fabulous moments and some brilliant ratings. No enormous Bolt/Ennis/Farah Athletics inspired peaks but still making for an impressive games for ratings.

Sky money is why Britain is good at cycling. Invested in the sport and British cyclists have flourished as a result. It helps that cycling is taking place in primetime at this Olympics. It's giving us great moments and stories.
The National lottery is the main reason. Also the 2002 Commonwealth games in Manchester gave us the infrastructure |

Not really Sky only came on when Team GB dominated the Tour De France and 2008 Olympics. It helps but it didn't start the fire by any means

Blimey, claiming it's all down to Sky is ridiculous.
Lottery funding started it all off. You're both right about the National Lottery funding. Completely forgot. The majority of funding comes from them. |

Indeed and John Mayor has suddenly become very popular, as he was in power when the lottery was authorised.

What a fantastic Tuesday for Team GB! It's incredible seeing all this talent and them being rewarded! Ratings should be great!
I read a comment on BBC Sport Facebook page which I completely agreed with. Basically the comment said, we've had a pretty bad year, reputation of the country hasn't been great. I agree, Euro's was tough not only on the fact England didn't play well (I don't support the football team, however Ireland and Wales did themselves proud), but internationally we were seen as "thugs" along with Russia due to the events and fights that were shown all around Europe. i can't fault media around the world for that because England football fans do have (not all) a bad rep. Then we had Brexit, with whatever you believe has caused more divisions between the people that wanted in and those who wanted out, it's broken up friendships and left a sour taste in mouths in general. These Olympic games has made me feel much better. Team GB have been incredible. THIS is feel-good TV. This is what makes us Great. And it;s not just GB, but generally. Seeing such brilliant sportsmanship is lovely to see. None of this country vs country crap we saw for the Euro's. |

In the sense that BBC1 could have shown the main news and regional news at 10pm and cut back to the kierin at 10.30. Instead the news hasn't even aired yet! Hardly seems any point airing it now. It has also rather screwed up BBC1 showing other live Olympics coverage when they finally cut to the news at 11.25...

And of course, Chris Hoy's earlier successes inspired people to take up track cycling |

Thanks to them moving EE and the news delay, it was one continuous programme from 7pm to 11:25pm last night on BBC1
I don't know exactly how BBC2 panned out but I think it went something like this 10:00 QI 10:30 Coast 10:40 Coast 10:50 Coast 11:00 Coast 11:10 Coast 11:25 Olympics 2016 11:55 Newsnight

This thing on ITV this Saturday called Spotless, I have no idea what it is, whether its a pilot or just a pilot that is being burned off, (the latter I think) but I feel like its going to give ITV one of their worst ever Saturday ratings. What with this at 7pm and the over played Bourne film at 9pm, ITV's Saturday rating is going to look like they are aiming for Ch5 ratings.

A 15 min peak of 10.89m last night for the Cycling (10.45-11). Average (7-11.25) 8.58m/44.2%.
10.45-11pm: BBC1 - 10.89m BBC2 - 233k (Coast fillers) ITV - 445K C4 - 540K BBC4 - 580K https://twitter.com/chrisckmedia/sta...32679384354816 |

Stonking ratings, 5 minute peak should be well over 11m.

And what's even more astonishing is that the peak was close to the end of "peak time" too.
