The lottery game shows, enjoyably though some of them are, seems like a lazy option. More viewers to be had with, say, a lively variety series - certainly with a Strictly lead-in. And perhaps we'll see more drama on Saturdays now. They're already lining up new series Taboo for Saturdays in the new year.

I'd also like to see them try to find some new pre-watershed family comedy for Saturday nights, but I guess that's a riskier sell than Saturday night drama.”

Interesting point, my first thought was we will still get the quiz/game shows but they have £100000 potential prizes which surely wont be applicable if they aren't carrying the Lottery?

Yes, when half the nation was naive to believe they had a chance of winning the jackpot.

Forgot Nick Knowles, it's the astronomically long odds of winning bugger all that's made it a bit of a non-event now.

Why so aggressive?

I suspect a similar audience who watch Celeb, also watch The Apprentice. Shock horror!

In fact TA is full of Plebs.

The lottery game shows aren't strong enough to exist without the lottery draws. Who Dares Wins is probably the strongest of the current formats, (it used to be In It To Win It which commanded some pretty decent figures at times when the ITV opposition was weak but it's looking a bit tired these days) but compare.....

12th November: National Lottery: Who Dares Wins - 4.1m
19th November: Michael McIntyre's Big Show - 6.2m

Also continuing to screen the game shows when they are no longer showing the draws would just seem ridiculous and very annoying for those who mainly watch the game shows for the draws (like my family).

I assume they'll do what they do with Euromillions and have the 2 minute results between shows. I'm not sure if it needs to be broadcast on iPlayer though,

They're advertising on television and the BBC website for contestants for the next series of Who Dares Wins:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/showsandtours/t...who_dares_wins

They'll probably keep the quiz(zes) going, and just flash the winning numbers up on the end credits, as they do now.

That makes sense plus the live draw on iPlayer, I suspect it has be shown in some form for transparency reasons although they don't show the other draws online so I'm not sure.

I've never looked, but apparently the other draws are shown on the National Lottery's website.

EDIT: Here they are. I've just watched Friday's Euromillions draw, embedded from Youtube. Pre-recorded voiceover from Deadly Alancoat, so no mention of the numbers on the balls.

Taboo premieres on Tuesday 10/1 as per Wikipedia. Whether that's on BBC1 or FX it does not say.

According to geektown it's BBC One, starts 07/01.

Confirmed by the Radio Times.

Yes, I believe they stream Wednesday's main draw on YouTube as well, which the BBC stopped showing some time ago.

People who still play the Lottery - and it seems to be a diminishing number after all the changes - seem to get the numbers in different ways now, so It's right to do away with the outdated TV draws, which are so drawn out and a waste of airtime. It should have happened sooner.

The only time it might have had a purpose in recent years is when they've made numerous millionaires on the same night via the raffle, but I think more recently when they've had an event draw like that the full results have only been available through the website, once again underlining the pointlessness of the live TV draw.

That says 7th January for BBC1.

Wikipedia says 10th January is the premiere date for FX.

Reminds me of seeing a bloke asking a shopkeeper to check his Lottery ticket last week:

Man: Will you check this for me?
Shopkeeper (after having put the ticket through the machine): Nothing on that. Shall I rip it up?
Man: NO!

Awkward silence.

Man: I'll, erm, er, keep it for posterity.

Honest here the ratings of Micheal McIntyre proved that the lottery is better on iPlayer or BBC Four.

This time last year on the Monday these were the ratings:

EastEnders 6.05m (26.1%)

Emmerdale 6.2m (30.1%)
Coronation Street 7.48m (33.5%)
The Martin Lewis Money Show 4.16m (18%)
Coronation Street 7.44m (32%)
I'm A Celebrity 8.7m (37%)

Interesting to see how they all do tonight. I think we might see a suprisingly good rating for Martin Lewis tomorrow. Its at the perfect time as Christmas nears.

Vague soundbites to keep the press moving in the right direction with no real substance to them. *sighs*

That said, I'm hearing exceptionally good things about it from people who's opinion I hold in very high regard. Clearly it's a huge deal for them, I just wonder if that level of interest can be sustained over multiple episodes / series? It's not a format type that's really been thoroughly tested before in the VOD space, at least something as high profile as this with UK talent attached.

I still hope a deal can be reached to bring the show to terrestrial audiences. In the long term I truly believe that would be good for Amazon Prime, both in terms of showcasing its quality and also keeping the brand alive between runs. And given this show is now absolutely synonymous with Amazon Prime as a service, they'd frankly be mad to turn down the chance of free primetime advertising on a major channel, because that's effectively what it'd amount to, and no doubt they would seize the opportunity to run a multitude of Amazon related adverts during the breaks too.

Cheers for the Taboo info. Again, I'm only going off wiki and IMDb, it looks like a 9pm drama to me. I assume that's not the case though and it's going on before Casualty.

The main Lottery has decreased in popularity but the Euromillions is still popular when it's a super jackpot.

The Grand Tour is very good, Amazon and Netflix can spend the sort of money that most broadcasters wouldn't dream on one programmes.

Netflix has had huge success with The Crown, House of Cards, OITB but clearly studios see the potential due to the revivals of shows like Gilmore Girls, Arrested Development etc even a show like Young Justice is returning because of Netflix

Just a quick one-

Caught a bit of ITV2 earlier (watched a bit of the I'm A Celeb rpt at teatime). What were they thinking with that Family Guy DOG? Awful!

I would be hugely hugely surprised if it's on Pre 9pm. FX generally manage to add in a bit of sex and swearing due to being Cable.

Could they drop a quiz and do this for 8 weeks?

6.15- Pointless Celebs
7pm- Let it Shine
8.15pm- Casualty
9pm-9.30pm- Let it Shine Results
9.30-10.30- Taboo

A Saturday is a bit of a risk though: I thought it was almost certainly heading for the Sunday 9pm slot due to the Talent attached but it's certainly an interesting move to bring bid budget drama back to Saturdays so I hope it pays off for them

More drama and less sport might be coming to sky and even BT.

I'm really pleased Outnumbered is in for a special, maybe an hour special?

Since The Royle Family stopped doing specials, I've not really looked forward to Christmas specials at all (and maybe Bad Education). And very sadly, we won't be getting TRF anytime soon, not sure they could even do it without Caroline, they might fancy a tribute of some sort, maybe a doco?

Why was EE so low? Because of TMLMS?
