It's a low-bar but itv must be pleased to have new shows doing 'well' in TTNY and Magician. Rockers clearly warrants more episodes as it does okay and is a bit different.

EastEnders was all over the media and the papers for the day of the reveal. Certain reveals are a big deal. Max & Stacey's affair on Christmas Day 2007 and 20m watching to see the reveal of Who Shot Phil in EastEnders. Coronation Street's tram crash. Events for me are the ones that get loads of viewers.

Cricket has never got ratings but it's like golf, it's reach is big. They're on all day so people dip in without great peaks. I know what you mean and my T20 point was about crowds and future TV rights. BT just paid £80m for Aussie cricket rights!

GBBO final was clearly a big deal. Finals generally still are. The live rating is the clue. When people feel the need to watch it live, it's an event.

Ultimately though these things are only events to those who watch. They're nothing to the majority who don't.

Yeah me neither. To be fair I've only seen two episodes of The Crown so far, and it's definitely ok, but not sure I'd be making time for it if it wasn't a show I watched when at the parents. Yet the hype is sky high, like so many of these things...hmm. I suppose to start with you have to love the royals!

Rockers doesn't require more episodes. Its a tired show, and being down nearly 20% YOY is not something I would personally rush to recommission.

OTR wore itself out after series 2. That was the cut off point. Series 1 av. around 4.5m, series 2 dropped under 4m, then series 3 plummeted to mid 2m.

Blankety Blank will do even better if its between Emmerdale and Corrie whilst against Midwife or DW. Against SCD, its get less chances of doing well.

BIB Perhaps they should rpt Vicious Christmas Special there for a couple of years ago, then the final ep on Boxing Day. Viewers look for comedy at that time, and usually find it on BBC1 with rpts of Not Going Out, VofD etc.

I think its worth ITV having their programmes not run to hour, as once you've locked in an audience at these awkward junctions, they are more likely to stick with that channel (ift hey have good programmes on after that is). So Emmerdale will pick up 5m, which will provide a solid lead into Blankety Blank, and against CTM (which is just too heavy of Xmas Day) will attract younger family audiences. And Doctor Who isn't as strong as it used to be.

If ITV keep The Lion King on Christmas, how do you think it will do? I'm it can't do any worse than last years unmitigated disaster, sub 1m for Cameraman To The Queen. The benefit BBC1 have is the number of viewers who choose the Queen's Speech on BBC1 over ITV despite it being the same blum'in programme.

" Frozen" is a Disney juggernaut, whilst fans may have it, it will do very very well, So it would be stupid/ suicide to put any other Disney film against it. Your just burning it off.

Again, if ITV do this and try to copy BBC1 they will loose out, if ITV run the lion king any other time it will do well.

Maybe like Skyfall ITV will show The Lion King twice to get value for money.

Episode 3 is a big one. It's a shame they made it about Elizabeth because I've found the George VI story far more interesting. In fact, gulp, I had something in my eye during some of his scenes.

Having said that, I've only seen three episodes and it's clear they are covering Edward and Simpson and other stories too. My wife prefers it to Downton because it is real.

Another solid rating for IAC last night. Up on last year and last week (after clashing with CiN). It's current overnight series average is 8.6m. At the same stage last year it was 8.2m. The last few years it's ran out of a bit of steam for the final week so it will be interesting to see how it holds up from Monday onwards.

I'm assuming the Broadcast app hasn't updated for the last few days for some reason due to the lack of ratings?! ITV Media hasn't updated since Wednesday either. I wonder what's going on...

It does as well as The Chase and Tipping Point tend to and better than YBF. I'd rather have a Beadle type of show than YBF because it's a bit different. Funny clips were old 10 years ago, the internet has just exacerbated it.

I don't know how expensive OTR is to make or what it's demos are like.



Frozen took £64m in the UK. That suggests around 6m tickets were sold. This is all wild guesses but I'll go for 5m people saw it at the cinema.

I think Derek500 said Frozen has been watched millions of times on sky. Then there's DVD, Virgin, the naughtynet and possibly streaming apps.

I imagine most families with kids have seen it, possibly numerous times. Will they watch it again? To be honest, yes they probably will.

My daughter said she's no longer interested in Frozen. Little girls do think like that. However, I can't imagine these same kids would be desperate to see Lion King. Finding Nemo would be very different.

The Lion King is also a classic Disney animation, I would say better than these current animations. Or are you a Frozen fan?

And why is scheduling The Lion King on Christmas Day copying BBC1? You seem to think everything revoles around BBC1.

Last year and the year before, ITV placed factual in that slot and it rated appalingly. What would then suggest if not a film? Something weak, to ensure BBC1 does even better I don't doubt!?

Not every one likes Frozen. And I'm pretty sure there are enough viewers to go around. I think its good to see both channels providing good family films, and ITV putting in some effort.

Frozen actually made £39m, I know this because the highest grossing film of 2013 was Despicable Me 2 followed by The Hobbit

Yes I am a Frozen fan, it isn't just for young girls you know! There is a lot in it for everyone, I am a fan of the lion king as well, but it's far older, and not as topical Frozen. Frozen is getting a follow up, it had a new rude added in Walt Disney worked with day long queues, and Disney put its cruise ships to Norway as Frozen is popular and added a Frozen show.

The point was, which you missed, is putting two Disney films against each other Frozen will win. It's far more popular, ITV if it had an idea would not put The Lion King against Frozen. BBC1 has traditionally fir years shown a strong animated film post the queen on Christmas Day, ITV occasionally copy.

It's better they do something different, distinctive, not copy, so Paul Ogrady's dogs or blankety blank would work, disney vs disney Frozen wins. The factual ITV out in last year everyone saw was filler and was repeated in days, they didn't really try.

You always add in personal comments, it doesn't all revolve around BBC1 that's your impression not mine, but you add it in incorrectly, and say about being a Frozen fan as a put down. Frozen is a big film, it's the biggest film, BBC1 has shown at Christmas for years, people may laugh or under estimate it, but it's a blockbuster.

Lion King would get some viewers but loose, if they put it on another day and not against a top Disney film, it will do very well, despite being a lot older.

Quite so. Shrek, Toy Story and Toy Story 3 are the only remotely comparable BBC One Christmas Day premieres this century - and culturally it's probably more significant even than all of those, even if critically it isn't quite as well-regarded.

Cannot believe some are arguing over two classic Disney movies but here is my tuppence worth - The Lion King is widely regarded as a Disney classic which is a much bigger hit than Frozen when it comes to adjusted box office and also a much bigger critical success. Frozen has the benefit of being a recent smash hit though and will be a Premiere but most people will have also seen it recently on DVD or satellite. Still expect Frozen to rate very well but Lion King could put up some good figures for ITV too.
Interesting too that The Lion King is also set to be remade as a live action musical blockbuster with the director of the recent live action Jungle Book at the helm.

If they clash you'd probably see 7m for Frozen and 3m for Lion King. Swap the channels and I wonder how it would change. 4m for LK on BBC1 and 6m for Frozen on ITV maybe.

I wonder if the 3:10 slot is less important now. People eat later these days. Go to the pub on a Sunday and youll see at 12:30 that OAPs are eating Sunday roast and couples half their age are eating an all-day breakfast.
In the 80s it seemed like 5pm was dinner time, 12pm was lunch time. Now it seems meals happen an hour or more later.

Maybe that's just my incorrect impression, but I know my family won't start Xmas lunch until around 3pm. Maybe 4:30 is the new 3:10pm.

Frozen will do incredibly well. I work with kids and they are as obsessed with it as they were the day it came out. Even kids who were too young to be in on the hype when it first came out are now involved.

The impact is incredible - Frozen birthday parties are still so popular, so even though people have already seen it, it will definitely be watched again!

For me, the lion king is my childhood and is obviously very popular, but Frozen is going to do so well because even the kids who have seen it hundreds of times will watch it, if only because it's put on by the parents so that they can get on with food prep/ tidying whilst the kids are settled.

I think This Time Next Year and Magician both have great potential. If I was ITV, I would bring both shows back with the numbers they are getting at the moment. They aren't doing amazingly well, but at the same time they aren't flopping hard either.

I think they are both pretty good shows, the formats for both are good and they could grow into something bigger. I think it would be good for ITV to show faith and bring them back, rather than going back to the drawing board as new shows can do much worse.

Frozen's strength is in how it came out at a time allowing it to be a 'big fish in a small pond' - whilst The Lion King's cultural impact was undoubtedly still vast, it came in the middle of the Disney Renassiance era so kids growing up with The Lion King also grew up with Beauty and The Beast, Aladdin, Toy Story, Home Alone* etc. Whereas for kids born in the last 10 years the only things which come close to Frozen are the Despicable Me trio and Inside Out - for as much as Minions and Inside Out were fantastic films, those being its nearest competition mean Frozen is inevitably on a pedestal none of the films released in that crowded 90's marketplace could ever achieve. It's the iconic film certainly of this decade and probably of this century, and it'd be a huge surprise if it didn't do big numbers for its premiere as a result.

*I know Toy Story and Home Alone weren't made by Disney but they were all released around the same time.

It's the iconic film until Frozen 2 comes out, then it's just another franchise. This century is really about Pixar/animation (Finding Dory, Zootopia and Secret Life of Pets are 3 of the biggest 5 films of 2016 (Moana will join them)), Marvel, Potter, LOTR, DC and Star Wars. Actually, gotta throw Fast and Furious in there too now.

Once you get sequels, you become a tentpole. Fantastic Beasts has cracked it for WB.
