I'm not completely sold on Bake Off getting particularly huge numbers for these specials. Good numbers definitely, but not massive, so I think teatime is fair enough. Although it could probably beat Doctor Who so maybe swap it with that. Sadly though I expect you are right.
I notice they aren't doing a John Bishop special this year. They normally did quite well so surprised to see it not returning. With Michael McIntyre moving to Christmas Eve it could have gone in the late slot on Christmas Day. Better than a compilation. |

Yeah I don't think Doctor Who has that power anymore like it had from 2007-2010. There is a definite lack of a big centre piece on Christmas Day for both ITV and BBC 1.
Frozen will give a great lead in. I think as " fantasy " with a loyal audience DW will do well. ITV going for Maigret - dead man- on Christmas Day is a gamble but new and may work, Maigret is likely to get a new year repeat outside the Christmas double listings period to get its money worth. Personally I would take out call the midwife and have it on another day but I think it's set for the main day. Michael McIntyre on Christmas Eve should boost that night up. Peter Pan goes wrong, pre Christmas Day say Christmas Eve pre McIntyre. I would like to see part1 of Christmas bake off just before Christmas to hook viewers in, maybe the Wednesday at 8 pm, normal slot, and then the other one on Christmas Eve following McIntyre. Witness for the prosecution on at 9 pm from Boxing Day stripped day by day. |

Well
That's this thread finished then as all sides here do the same, the basis of this ratings thread is to analyse shows and performance. I think the XF should have ended many years ago, true, The ratings and things like this:- https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbi...n-was-planned/ " X Factor viewers claim Honey G stage invasion was planned, is about manipulating people and that's what gets people annoyed as it is all about the worst style of very early 2000's show. Funny that I was discussing the film " Frozen" yesterday, and Michael McIntyre and Strictky, and I understand you may not be able to read all my posts, but they were not about XF, however whilst some here see only the top of the iceberg of a variety of posts, they like to attach a label quickly. Posters here either tirelessly defend XF or soaps, or go on about the quality of IAC celebrities, they could be seen as obsessed, we get fantasy Christmas schedules. I thought an open forum should be open, and discuss the ratings and shows. But this thread isn't about "persons who post here" but a few are obsessed with that? ![]() |

Why would they try to be promoting GBBO, effectively a Channel 4 show now, over DW, of which there is a 2017 & 2018 (and rumoured in the Mirror 2019 is greenlit) series already commissioned for BBC1 after this Christmas?
People love the current GBBO it should be scheduled for maximum viewers for a good send off, and it's not promoting it in any way, there is a year gap. Doctor Who is on Christmas Day they have already said it, I guess a slot around 5.15 to 6.15pm. |

Birds of a Feather did pretty well this year. It was up on the 2015 series and averaged 4.2m in the overnights, which presumably took it past 5 million consolidated. .
5.34m 5.84m 5.43m 5.55m 4.21m 4.20m 5.19m 4.29m so a bit borderline, but a few of these episodes clashed with rescheduled episodes of EastEnders IIRC which obviously had an averse effect on ratings. |

You haven't really answered. Look, I hate it too as I can't abide Cowell, but you do go on about it on here an awful lot which is the truth. If I hate something I don't really want to endlessly comment on it, I'd rather channel that amount of energy into something else.
To be honest when I didn't respond on XF Others were posting the same pro and against arguments. XF is marmite people either love it or hate it. I have answered, but seems the context is completely ignored so I have to re repeat when people join later but do not read prior posts! |

Do we really want a whole series of Strictly Champion of Champions? I don't think so. A CoC is alright for a bit of fun but I'm not sure anyone's that bothered about taking it any further. Most of the fun of Strictly is watching people progress and the cock-ups, and you wouldn't get any of that. |

It was a huge success for DWTS when it ran its 'All Stars' series in 2012. It's surely got to be worth a try.

I agree, it definitely lacks something. A big comedy really, I don't think MBB alone is enough and its ratings have fallen over the past couple of years.
Which is ironically what Dr Who is these days. Poor Peter Capaldi - A good Dr and a fine actor lumbered with a terrible in-a-rut producer. I'd say incoming Chibnall might shake things up but he's been responsible for some horrifically bad telly so I don't hold out much hope for the new regime. |

Actually DWTS's all stars season lost 19% of it's audience from the previous autumn.

Fox TV in America has just run an advert for Taboo for its FX showing. The trailer looks good, it reminded me a lot of Penny Black.
I only saw the first season of Penny Black (must watch the rest because it was excellent) but whether it'll suit BBC1 I don't know. |

The irony of the anti-Moffat brigade accusing anyone of being stuck in a rut is almost too painfully funny to bear! Please take your views to the Who forum where an endless supply of miserable sods are bursting to welcome you to their doom and gloom club. There are people there make me look carefree and light-hearted and I suffer from clinical depression!

Do you mean Penny Dreadful? If so, I agree. The first season was excellent but I haven't got around to watching seasons 2 and 3 either!

DS participant Jane-Lee3 has started a thread "Off Their Rockers: Season 4, Utter load of tripe."
Catching it when other members of the family watch it, I have to say, and did in the above thread, that it could do with a bit more quality control. I think it's getting the ratings it deserves. Sadly. I wonder what figure it would get if it was on BBC1. (That would have to be a Saturday.) |
