In the Newzoids thread one of the posters has said this will be back on the 3rd September following The X Factor. I don't know how true this is.
It'll certainly have a better shot than last time. |

Some dire scheduling from Channel 5 w/c 29th August with a brand new series of The Hotel Inspector Returns going out 10.30pm-11.30pm on the Tuesday, Impractical Jokers UK ditched from the schedule and the finale of Suspects: The Enemy Within going out 11pm-12am on the Wednesday.
The Hotel Inspector Returns is a bit of a waste there, although it never does as well as the main programme. Still, I'd have it at 7pm even over 10.30pm. The biggest head-scratcher though remains what is going on with the weekend films with only one movie all weekend that week ! I'm starting to think there is more to it than just contracts ending, maybe something to do with programme quotas?

GB Hockey tweeted that the BBC news will be moved on Friday so they can show the whole of the womens hockey gold medal final.
Bit messy today going from 1 to 2 then back to 1 to watch the semis. Hopefully good figures though. Some excellent ratings so far. |

Likewise it was a silly decision not to put eastenders on bbc2 for a fortnight it's not the powerhouse it once was
I'm glad to see it supported and kept on the main channel for once. All said and done it is still one of the beeb's most popular shows that contributes significantly to share week in week out. They throw it under a bus way too easily sometimes. Not saying this is true of you Ritchie but knowing this thread some will have only wanted it moved to weaken its position. I bet the idea of it being on 2 and against Emmerdale brought sheer delight to a few. Sadly, for them, it was not to be. If there hadn't been an onslaught of Emmerdale against it then actually I wouldn't have minded seeing it on 2. |

Looks like Impractical Jokers UK is switching to Saturdays at 11.30pm where they've been repeating it recently. Such a subtle slot change that, I'm sure nobody will notice they are burning it off because the figures were catastrophic!

It's cookie-cutter formula programme-making that might as well have the same script every week. There's a good programme to be done about re-vamping hotels but this is no longer it, if indeed it ever was.Quote:

Not that weekend but if this is their idea of good programming then they've lost the plot even more than last year:21st AUGUST(!) 12 noon A Christmas Song 1.45 The Christmas Bunny 3.40 Lucky Christmas 5.25 Defending Santa 7 Christmas Makes you LOL 8 Can't Pay? We'll take it Away Christmas Special Is it going to be the same procession of inappropriate programming all the way to December now? And they wonder why they were demoted to the Freeview pages in Radio Times.. I don't know about everyone else but I'm hugely impressed with this new Viacom broom. Wowser! What a change! |

The BBC news has become indistinguishable from their Olympics coverage these days. If you're lucky you might get some real news after they've finished jingoistically waving the flag but their conduct over the Olympics is the final nail in the coffin for their credibility as far as I'm concerned. Someone should lose their job over the shameful way it's been programmed the last two weeks.

None of the soaps are to be fair. EE is doing better on BBC1 than it would be doing on BBC2.

I just think it doesn't hold much logic to keep swapping and changing the Olympics from side to side, there was again a lot of complaints on twitter last night about the hockey going and forth from bbc1 and 2. |

Im British. I expect British broadcasters to support team GB and to tell me how they are doing. Olympians are actually achievers. They bring a bit of joy to the world for a fortnight. The usual mundane things are still occurring in the world, but it is nice to have some positive and good things headlining the news for a change. Why are you so grumpy about it?
Got nothing to do with being "grumpy" (are you five years old?), but everything to do with running a grown-up news service where sport and entertainment news is reported on in proportion and after more important stories. I'll not be explaining this to you again so try and take it on-board this time. |

Plus, historically, late July/August has always been seen as "silly season" - the time when Parliament is in recess (so much less political news). |

People complain about ITVs offering quite often, but C5 might as well be called tat tv. It clearly has appeal to a tiny minority of viewers and if it disappeared from the EPG who would even notice? Is Chavsville the denomination they ate trying to attract? Says a lot when their highest rating show is tge moronic Big Brother.
Secrets of Great British Castles Loch Lomond: A Year In The Wild Inside Buckingham Palace The Great African Migration (nature series) New Lives In The Wild Alex Polizzi's Secret Italy / Italian Islands Britain's Bloodiest Dynasty (History series about the Plantagenets) Rome: The World's First Superpower Hiroshima: The Aftermath Tales from The Tower (Tower of London documentary) These are unlikely to appear to 'chavs'. There are some good programmes on the channel, you just need to look past Big Brother and Benefits. |

We've done this in the other thread. The BBC should not be promoting it to the top of the agenda over other real news. They do it because it's a way of patting themselves on the back and cross-promoting their Olympics coverage. No other broadcaster is leading with medal nonsense to the extent the BBC is.
All the main newspapers (bar the Daily "Big Brother" Star) are either leading on it or have large articles on their front (and inside) pages, even the "serious broadsheets" such as the Telegraph and Times. |

Maybe because those other broadcasters don't have the same unrestricted access to the amount of recorded material that the BBC has (c.f. Sky News using simple, still shots).

I was talking about the likes of Sky and C4, not the papers.Quote:

Brexit, New PM, Aleppo, Trump/Clinton, US shootings etc....By every commentators admission these are the most turbulent times in living memory but Trotty and her BF just won medals so let's hear about that first.

The Winter Olympics of 2018 would be the ideal opportunity to get viewers 'conditioned' to switching to BBC Two and knowing that's where they have to go. |

That's no justification for promoting it to the lead story night after night.

With the BBC only having one Olympic channel from 2018, wouldn't it be great if they just bit the bullet and made it BBC Two?

I'll not be explaining this to you again so try and take it on-board this time. The emphasis on the Olympics is because it is currently the biggest story occurring in our country. Our team has made history. Their success is unprecedented. We have won Gold medals in almost ALL sports. People are excited about it and want to know about it. After all, BBC News is meant to reflect British News as a priority unless International News supersedes that priority. So, for the sake of a fortnight, where people generally seem to be a bit cheerier as we enjoy our country's success at a major International event, I'd say the News coverage is pretty much spot on. |
