I believe so. Good film yes - but then, when is Tom Hanks in a bad one?

ITV are wasting it in that slot. Deserves better. And inexcusable when there's night after night of Potter repeats in peak over the festive period on the same channel.

Bit of a surprise to see Tour de Celeb trending on social media.

C5 clearly had no confidence in it given it has been sat on the shelf for ages and played out at 7PM which is not core peak for them.

Rightly or wrongly, I am 99.9% certain that the Potter repeats will do better than Captain Phillips would in primetime. I can see why it's frustrating to see its premiere aired in such a late slot, but ratings-wise it is probably the right move.

Could Blankety Blank be the start of things to come? Because it is on Xmas it's not seen as desperate revival but instead may be perceived as being special.

So next year could we have GGame in the 7:30 slot, maybe BBreak on Xmas Eve? ITV could try it with lots of old shows, you know the ones. Imagine if this had been done with a good reboot of Stars in your Eyes.

This is the same simple idea as putting the one-off sitcoms on over Xmas. AYBS or GSweetheart (etc) would have seemed so different over Xmas. People like something familiar but also different at Xmas. In the past that meant celebrity specials but that won't work now.

It's a pilot but with an easy excuse and out.

Thought so. Thanks. Agree - it deserves a much better slot.

No, I'm just stating the (correct) fact that in reach, EastEnders is almost certainly more watched than Emmerdale. Emmerdale is doing well and winning in the overnights (and sometimes in the officials) but EE is the more watched soap once you take everything into account (iPlayer, repeats/omnibus, +1, itv player etc)

Hard to say how it would perform since ITV rarely try films in peak outside of the usual predictable franchises.

If a big title on ITV2 can fetch maybe 800,000 over the festive period, I find it hard to believe a major premiere like Captain Phillips would be disgraced on the main channel.

Ant and Dec are on fire tonight, that's what makes the show, every link is a masterclass. Imagine what it would be like if someone like Davina or Caroline Flack was hosting, and linking the clips in a straight manner.

Fascinating stuff. Thanks Ray.

There are some strong titles on ITV, but the audience clearly chose BBC1.

Last of the Summer Wine was already nearing its 20th birthday on that broadcast and was still packing in big audiences up to the end of the nineties. Big Break? -one of the best theme tunes ever!

Bit in brackets - I was expecting the Channel 4 section to be blank.

BBC Media Centre has both episodes of Mrs Brown's Boys down for Dec 24th-30th but there's only one episode in the provisionals. Something has to give. Unless the other MBB is the TBA on Wednesday 21st @ 7.30.

Strictly's 7-day consolidated rating for last Saturday's Blackpool show (12.24m) pips the main performance programme for last year's final (12.23m) but trails the final's results show (12.47m).

Seems like it, I don't think it needed tape checking. Hopefully we get confirmation soon!

The 12.24m official for last week's Strictly is its highest rating non final show since 19 November 2011 (although an edition from 8 December 2012 had 12.04m in the officials). It is on a roll this year. For some reason I'm thinking next year's series will dip. But it is way too early to be thinking about 2017 yet

There I was ready to watch Have I got more news for you, because I didn't see the normal edition on Friday due to I'm a Celeb, and they've only gone and shunted it back to 11:15 so they can repeat Walliams and Friend before it.

Seems a bit odd prioritising entirely repeat content over partial new/partial repeat content but there you go, the BBC must be desperate for Walliams and Friend to be a hit.

I think it'll likely drop next week, so could be looking at 2m-2.5m. They would have been better bringing it back for just Christmas speials.

Tracy Ullman is down for Christmas Day at 11pm. Fair enough putting a repeat on at that late time, but on Christmas Day they could have something better than that.

The Tracy Ullman Show, like Humans and Indian Summers, is one of those shows that gets hailed as a smash-hit because lots of people watch the heavily-hyped first episode. But maybe people should wait to see how many are still watching by the final episode before they make such assertions.
