Im sure there was one year where the news was the highest rated programme of the night,if that 9.15 news bulletin is correct, could happen again

So ITV's Xmas Eve reads:

6.30 Blankety Blank
19:30 Coronation Street
20:00 Birds of a Feather
21:00 Grantchester
22:30 Through The Keyhole
23:30 ITV News”

Christmas Day weakened as a result I think.

It's looking a really nice mix. They have gone for a mix of what works well on a weekday mixed with Saturday type entertainment shows.

Guess Xmas Day is now

17:45 Emmerdale
18:45 ITV News
19:00 Paul O'Grady's Dogs*
20:00 Coronation Street
21:00 Maigret
23:00 ITV News

* or Dogs then News

?

It's nice to avoid the 2hour block of soap on Christmas Day by splitting them up.

POG dogs at 7pm between Emmerdale & Corrie might do better in that slot between the two soaps.

ITV's Christmas Eve is their 'kitchen sink' day ... looks like a BBC1 Xmas Day.

ITV looks very strong on Xmas Eve - but that comes at a cost on other nights.

And as this thread has discussed before, Xmas Eve can be a funny old night for getting bums on seats in front of the TV, especially early evening, with last minute preparations going on as well as visiting of family and friends etc, so I'm not entirely sure why they are targetting that day specifically.

Perhaps trying to stregthen viewers kminds into ITV can do a good Christmas schedule. And perhaps a high rating Xmas Eve in order to promote Xmas Day.

Because it is BBC1's weakest perhaps? From provisional listings, BBC1 isn't exactly overly enticing on Christmas Eve. The silence surrounding BBC1 Christmas Eve suggests it's still pretty crap or they've moved Captain America there!

Having David Walliams on both ITV and BBC1 on Xmas Eve though?

More than one year! It only missed out last year because of Downton. It is what you'd expect though. People take a quick break from their carousing to see if anything's happened in the real world while they've been 'away'.

So, does this seem to be the confirmed Christmas Day schedule then?

Christmas Day
BBC 1
14:00: Top of the Pops
15:00: The Queen
15:10: Film: Frozen
16:45: The Great Christmas Bake Off
17:45: Doctor Who
18:45: Strictly Come Dancing
20:00: Call the Midwife - unclear if this is really 90 minutes long
21:15: BBC News (?)
21:30: EastEnders
22:30: Mrs Brown’s Boys
23:05: Tracey Ullman’s Show

ITV
15:00: The Queen
15:10: ITV News
15:25: Film: The Lion King
17:45: Emmerdale
18:45: Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs at Christmas
19:45: ITV News
20:00: Coronation Street
21:00: Maigret
23:00: ITV News

For me, as always, there is a lack of entertainment (light entertainment). Especially at 9pm on BBC 1.

I reckon they've moved Blankety Blank as the slot on Christmas Day would have seen it face Strictly.

Still, it does make Christmas Day and Boxing Day look weaker.

Presumably Boxing Day is now...

7.00 Emmerdale
7.30 Corrie
8.00 YBF!
8.30 Corrie
9.00 Spider-Man

Not exactly stellar and Spider-Man is too late.

The News on ITV at 3.10pm is madness. The Lion King is going to start on the back for of Frozen

We don't know if that's definitely the case yet.

POG Dogs confirmed for 6.45pm on Christmas Day.

Also The Lion Kibg isn't that long so I reckon YBF! might slot in for 30 mins at 5.15.

Fair to say C5 are having a bit of a mare at the moment. In the past 5 minutes they've TWICE sent out the final exchanges for Spike and 5USA - but the actual attachments with the schedules are missing. D'oh.

Apparently they'll forward the C5 and 5Star schedules "as soon as [they] can."

Bless them! At least they're adding a bit of drama to the occasion!

The BBC1 Christmas Day 9pm slot is the flaggiest of flagship slots. Please tell me BBC1 hasn't put a 15 minute news bulletin in it?

If so can only assume they thought Corrie was airing 8.30-9.30 so it filled the gap after CTM?

Third time's a charm and Spike and 5USA are confirmed. (Lots of classic X-Files if that's your thing.)

Apparently the "mailing list system is malfunctioning again right when [they] don't need it to." Let's hope they've sorted it else C5 is going to be all TBA in the various mags, since they didn't even bother to put out any provisionals!

I think BBC1 will do just fine! Non stop, uninterrupted hit programming between 3.10 and 9.15pm is 6 hours of TV Gold. I think the fact they are aiming to maintain momentum after Frozen and even strengthen DW as a result is quite inspired. And if you want to watch EE, then between 9.15 and 9.30pm you'll just crack on with Christmas supper so that you're settled again for the next block of hit programming.

That would be a catastrophe for C5 and magazine purchasers! I'm sure all will be well in the end though.

I'm not sure whether audiences will think that. The earlier evening is fine, but later on its just same old same old.

Which works well enough. We'll have to see won't we? I think it's a good idea to link the top shows uninterrupted.

But very few are going to watch BBC1 6hrs solid.

I think Doctor Who (though I like DW) might casuse the momentom to falter somewhat. And CTM slap bang at 8pm

But its BBC1 Christmas Day. Its traditionally BBC1's strongest day.
