The news did seem to be a 'thorn' when I was trying to guess the schedules.

And for the Strictly final it all runs as one show from 6.40pm, no final results show. Madness. For ratings potential, I don't know if will break an 11m average. Daft thing to say I know but they have potentially shot themselves in the foot.

A day of 2 halves for BBC One. Brilliant afternoon / early evening, but for me it loses momentum after 8pm. They seriously need go back to the days of Eastenders not being in the 9pm hour ?

20:00 Birds of a Feather
21:00 Grantchester
22:30 Through The Keyhole
23:30 ITV News”

That's one long Blankety Blank episode! David Walliams will be worn out

As for the apparent lack of news on BBC1 - well, it's Christmas Day, there won't be much news. As for anyone who wants it, there is the BBC News channel.”

Why do ITV have more news bulletins than BBC1?

The BBC schedule for me is a mix, CTM should not be the flagship programme, but I like how they've sandwiched Doctor Who between two bigger programmes to help it out, and also Bake Off really suits being after Frozen.

I've mentioned this before, but someone from BBC presentation posted on some other forum that there was some kind of issue with crossing over to Big Ben live so they filmed it striking midnight a few nights before and played that instead, and none of the big bosses knew about it until much later.”

I suppose it was less complicated to film it a few days before, and less chance of anything going wrong, apart from heavy snow falling on New Year's Eve, which might have been awkward to explain.

This would surely be the latest start time for an episode of Eastenders on Christmas Day ever ?

I remember back in the 90's it used to be on around 6.30pm.

BBC1 Christmas Eve is yet again showing Vicar of Dibley - and Call the Midwife is indeed 90 minutes! That is a surprise.

The first Christmas Day episode in 1993 was but it went to 19.30 the following year and then 20.30 until the double episodes began (18.00ish and 20.30) in 1998.

Better than a news bulletin! Phew.

Not the best BBC1 schedule for me. TOTP, HMTQ and MBB are all we'll watch. Or record more likely.

Fully expect SCD to top the ratings. Best slot, weakest opposition, Len's last show.
