Not sure if it has been mentioned on here - Eastenders has a new boss. Oliver Kent known for Casualty and Holby will now oversee Eastenders as well

Sean O'Connor remains in charge but will be working alongside Oliver

http://metro.co.uk/2016/12/01/casual...s-too-6295255/

Is the BBC taking speedy action to stabilise the soap ?

There is no surprise that shows that went down this route shed viewers. XF and before that BB. They follow a very similar trajectory. Both seem to have a set of viewers with a habit. Most of the commentary on the forums/on-line is negative about the shows. As for IAC I think a group of folks getting on striving to do well for each other is just what the audience want to see after the fractious year we've had.”

But will it survive the 'fix' accusations?

Yes.

Oliver is very good on Casualty and HC good storylines.

Just coming back on this.

There's a Kevin Lygo article on Broadcast today.

Lethal Weapon is going Friday nights at 9pm and Little Big Shots is for midweek.

I don't see Lethal Weapon staying there some how.

The Durrells won't be starting until April as The BFI and Radio Times TV Festival are showing the first episode at the event on Saturday 8th April which makes me think that it won't start until 9th or 16th April. If ITV are planning to pair The Halycon with The Durrells then I expect it'll start on the 26th March or 2nd April since there are 8 episodes of that whereas The Durrells has six episodes.

I imagine ITV's Sunday line up from 8th January will be Endeavour, Vera and a three parter from January to March. I wonder if they might save Tina and Bobby for Spring.

BBC is "seriously considering" a BBC3 hour on BBC2
Exclusive: Briefing document has been circulated among the Corporation's top executives - but the time of the slot could prove tricky

http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2016-...3-hour-on-bbc2

Senior BBC executives are understood to have formulated plans for a designated BBC3 hour on one of the main terrestrials channels.
The plans, which have been put forward in a briefing document and are understood to have been circulated among the Corporation’s executive board, puts forwards the arguments for a designated slot – most likely on BBC2.
BBC3 has been online for nearly a year now with ad hoc showings on the main terrestrial channels of the best programmes such as the acclaimed abduction drama Thirteen.
But BBC3 shows, which also includes the Doctor Who spin-off Class, haven’t found a permanent regular home - and that may change.

GBBO open for applications.

http://www.digitalspy.com/tv/great-b...-how-to-apply/

Applications for the eighth series of the baking show are officially open, but only for the next 38 days.

Wonder if C4 has clearance to show in 2017 now?

They could film it and start showing it in January 2018 if the clause is still being imposed.

Sean remains Executive Producer and Oliver will oversee not just EastEnders but also Doctors and River City as his new role. I think some on here are trying to see it as EE not doing well but I think in reality it has nothing to do with what BBC execs might think of Sean's work so far.

Nope! BBC has its heels very firmly dug in at the moment. There is a very exhaustive 'audition' process to go through so it makes sense that they'd want to get applications in early though. They're obviously going to need some very strong candidates if they're to stand any chance of winning over the dubious BBC stalwarts.

TOTP

The BBC IMHO need to bring back TOTP, maybe add Games, and/or Books Movies, Y Tube, they need something for younger audiences.

GBBO

Possible, but seems very early for that, and with the limited applications time feels a bit rushed.

It will only win over circa 3/4 million.

Agreed. Previous executive producers of EastEnders, such as John Yorke, have gone on to similar roles in BBC Drama. I doubt it's any reflection on Sean O'Connor's work. It seems like a general continuing drama brief that isn't EastEnders-specific.

You're on your own there. I'm surprised to see it still there for Christmas even. Ten years on, its zombie existence can't go on too much longer surely?

Music is still popular, just the way it's presented, we have The Brits, and BBC Mudic awards, Glastonbury, other festivals, - TOTP could work, and quite cheap to produce. They used to film two at a time and edit in the chart.

BBC needs something for teens.

There's a rather odd aspect to this, though: logically, Oliver Kent must have been involved in the BBC Studios pitch for the Holly City contract that is being put out to tender. Does that mean he'll now be on the team deciding which bid should be successful – after helping develop one of them? Isn't that strange?

im sorry but TOTP is not coming back, no teenager want a TV chart run down, the days of getting music via TV are long long gone, The only teens who want it, are those trapped in the bodies of 40 year olds, seemingly confused by Snapchat and You Tube.

Also have you seen the charts? no worthwhile music people would tune into watch would be on it.

That's exactly how I feel. Would be a complete waste of time. And not only that, they can find out the charts online!

If it could work, why did they close it down in the first place? I don't know whether I'm convinced that BBC needs something for teens but if so this really isn't it. Teens no longer drive the charts for starters.

Quote:
“"...teenagers don’t buy as many tunes as people think, accounting for only seven percent of CD sales and just 12 percent of downloads — that means adults are buying Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande albums. Also, dudes used to buy most of the digital downloads, but now women buy around 54 percent of digital albums."”
