A lovely schedule change there. Incidentally, it replaces Still Open All Hours which is being repeated.”

I wonder if Landward will be replaced in Scotland?

Think that's a great series, too bad it's had stiff competition in that 9pm slot.

I'm pleased to see the BBC is hounoring Andrew Sachs by repeating Fawlty Towers in the heart of primetime.

On a different note, IAC seems to stumble on these 8.30pm start times. They clearly catch people out, as the 9pm-10pm slot is much higher. Last night I suspect it was over 8.5m. It also affects viewers catching up on +1, so I expect a big timeshift for these eps.

I think its really excitig t see BBC1 mix up the Saturday schedule (and save us from another road of MBB rpts) with Taboo at 9pm.

Its this type of risky scheduling that deserves success (if the drama is any good)

Good though this idea looks, given it avoids the usual array of slots and durations that we usually get when trying to schedule the soaps, I'm still a bit unsure of it because then it turns Coronation Street into a full time hour long programme. To me that would make for a fundamental change in the make-up of the programme, as you can't just stick two half hours together, you'd have to specifically produce hour-long episodes with a different ebb and flow. And I wonder if people would find an hour of Corrie a bit too much. I know you have that already on Mondays and Fridays but it looks a bit easier to handle because you don't have to watch them in one go.

Well, it depends, doesn't it? There was a repeat on tonight so it was simple enough to drop it. Muhammad Ali got his obituary on the night he died but it was a Saturday with not much else on. It might have been a bit different if he'd died on a Saturday when Strictly and MOTD were on.

I guess so, and as pointed out to me by another poster the BBC most likely knew he had passed as he died last week and is already buried. I have to say in a world where news and gossip spreads like wildfire I'm amazed it wasn't leaked well before.

Thanks Ray, do you have the other two for Channel 4 and 5 excluding +1?

Great news that the app is back.

I hope whatever Channel 5 have planned for the 9pm Thursday slot rates better than this (I realise it has IAC to contend with,) as On Benefits used to get around 0.8m so I would like it to be higher than that to justify Ben Frow's decision to get rid of benefits programming.

I notice next week, they're pushing Nightmare Neighbour to 9pm and running a Can't Pay repeat at 8 which is poor.

Broadcast are saying that last nights The Apprentice was it's lowest rating on record (4.32m).

I think they are forgetting it started life on BBC Two where I am sure it would have rated lower ?

Not just Saturday nights. Spoilered for size.

Spoiler
BBC1 to shake up Saturday night with Tom Hardy drama

BBC1 will ‘reinvent’ its approach to drama next year by carving out a new post-watershed slot for the genre on Saturday nights.

Speaking at a Christmas event for press, director of content Charlotte Moore said Ridley Scott and Tom Hardy’s Taboo would be the first series to play in that slot.

Moore flagged plans to shake up the schedule outside of drama too.

“We’re going to play with formats, create new slots across the week and on Saturdays, and we’re already piloting some exciting shows,” she said.

BBC1’s Saturday night drama is has traditionally been pre-watershed family friendly series such as Doctor Who or Merlin in early evening slots.

However, the slot will not be reserved exclusively for drama, with entertainment and comedy shows also being developed with the slot in mind.

Moore also hinted at a significant iPlayer update in the new year, saying she had been working closely with director general Tony Hall on taking the platform to “the next level”.

Almost a year into her role as director of content, Moore took the opportunity to thank her commissioning team by name, including newly appointed drama chief Piers Wenger.

“We now have a new creative team in place bringing passion and dynamism to everything they do” she said. “Thank you to them for their support, their ambition – and for everything they’ve done this year”.

She highlighted controller of factual Alison Kirkham’s team “for making our factual story the best in the world” and controller of comedy Shane Allen, who she said had “re-energised comedy on the BBC”.

Referring briefly to the BBC having “a secure future with a new charter in place” Moore said the creative opportunities at the BBC were “limitless”.

“I want to create a more dynamic BBC that’s responsive and in touch with our audience - that isn’t scared of reinventing for the future,” she said.

East India Company period drama Taboo is a 8 x 60-minute series made by Scott Free and Hardy, Son and Baker.

There was another interesting thing Charlotte Moore said last night at the BBC press event.

I've not watched this year. Used to be my favourite show but got fed up with reality tv casting. I watched it on BBC2 from the start.

Why are people squealing about The Apprentice having such a low audience when it was up against IAC, which had a 30 minute head start and a Corrie lead-in?

TA is very easy to timeshift and is top on iPlayer right now; I really don't see what all the fuss is about. It'll be right back up next week. Honestly this thread should be renamed 'Mountains out of Molehills - feat. Ratings'

The first ever show on BBC2 got 2.02m.

Probably because it held up better last year, and the year before that.

Its a bit like TXF situation, expect TXF creates more posts.

Its a shame Secret Life of The Zoo isn't doing better. IAC must have taken viewers away.

Are the BBC Christmas idents being launched tomorrow? Always love to see what they come up with. But, please, nothing like the 2011 idents.

The Apprentice will bounce back and should be up to 5.5m next week. Last night's rating was poor, should've done better I feel but will timeshift to well over 6m.

Apparently they are live action featuring a family? I bet you they launch before Strictly tomorrow.

On Christmas Day the indents are " in vision" people passionate about BBC programmes from age 6 to 80, pre recorded and on the theme of sharing.

They will introduce every BBC show on the day. They will replace normal BBC continuity announcements on Christmas Day.

Some say it starts on Sunday, it is this weekend, I think before SCD at 6.59 but maybe as early as post The One Show tonight.

I'm pleased BBC One are shaking up the schedules, especially Saturdays. I remember when shows like Jonathan Creek and Murder in Mind played out on Saturdays post Casualty.

I think Casualty has been on far too late and should be pushed forward to the 8pm hour so more meaty drama/experimental shows can air after 9pm which it sounds like they are doing.
