Its only a few glanced at lines but Charles Sale saying the chances of Champions League football returning to terrestrial tv are increasing. Apparently both SKY and BT have been in discussions with "terrestrials".

Fantastic for Fawlty Towers. I knew it would do well when they scheduled it here. Probably took a few numbers from Corrie.

BT could be willing to eat some £ to get the BBC or itv on board but money seems to be more of an issue for them now. I'm not convinced they're so bothered about the UCL now they've seen how it's unaffected sky. The EPL are the games that matter. I'm sure itv would love to have the 3.5m viewers back on a Tuesday, especially with the value of the demos. They could then show a highlights programme on itv4 at 10pm on Wednesdays. The problem for TV with all of this is that there's no longer a guaranteet that ManU will feature. It shall be interesting to see if the value of the rights rise or fall. |

ITV simply won't have time to show inane chatter with losing contestants on The Voice. It's the most pointless aspect of the show's format so it makes sense to drop it. Doesn't mean it's nasty.
http://www.digitalspy.com/tv/the-voi...nts-auditions/ "On the new twist - which will feature the famous red chairs NOT turning around if the coaches don't hit their buzzer - the former Bush frontman continued: "It's a crusher, so I feel bad them. "It's cold - [but] some people will feel bad, and some laugh their heads off. TV shows are all about moments of drama, and being cold and mean and really good viewing, but it's really rubbish if it's you." |

Time to meet the previous bakers for the Christmas Bake Off
http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2016-...eet-the-bakers I didn't know anything about the Christmas Editions, and I was surprised to see a mini competition (although not sure what I was expecting). |

The Christmas special will be shown after the final so it will be his last appearance although some newspapers seem to be starting a campaign to get him to stay.He will continue to judge the US version of the show and enjoy his first-class flights to LA.

This seems almost inevitable. BT know if they have one on board they'll largely offset their awful ratings. I'd imagine UEFA would much prefer ITV to C5 since the former would ensure many more viewers. However, C5 might offer more £. I can't imagine the Beeb will be willing to pay up now they've got MOTD and the Emirates Cup.

I thought the requirement to make extensive mention of the sponsors had always been a potential problem for the BBC ?
It might appeal to Nissan to know that they'll be no car adverts for rivals during a break. |

Its actually described here: https://www.theguardian.com/football...wsstory.sport4 It was in the wake of losing Premier League highlights but its still amazing to read the BBC once outbid both SKY and ITV-especially considering the monumental amount BT paid last time. CL games though don't have the interest they did, especially the group stages which have imo become quite mundane. |

Yes I think the BBC only ever once made a concerted bid for the rights, when Greg Dyke was overseeing things. That involved buying off sponsors iirc and actually made the BBC bid higher than ITV. Wasn't enough to twist anyones arm though.
Its actually described here: https://www.theguardian.com/football...wsstory.sport4 It was in the wake of losing Premier League highlights but its still amazing to read the BBC once outbid the combined might of SKY and ITV. CL games though don't have the interest they did, especially the group stages which have imo become quite mundane. What is amusing is the way the article talks about people predicting the bubble popping on sports TV rights. Some things do not change. We should not rule out an internet company bidding for rights. Twitter has already streamed NFL games and I'm sure Amazon, Apple and Netflix are interested. Whether they think it's worth it . . . |

Wouldn't anyone else do it or something, the tent is going to look and feel very empty. I would of got one memerable contestant from each series for the first special, then the second special could of been a champion of champions with previous winners. And I would of put one on xmas day the other new years day showing them two consecutive days is overkill. |

I really can't see Bake-Off doing big numbers on Christmas Day. I think SCD will be higher.

True but I imagine there's some kind of clause in the contract which means Bake Off can't be seen anywhere on the BBC after 31st December 2016.

What it did was make Sky ridiculously overbid for the PL rights so I'd did affect then indirectly. They have been looking at cuts ever since. You can bet that Sky will want the CL back. Still the biggest club competition around. Just not a good period for English teams. |

As much as I like the idea of Champions League on BBC it will never happen.
Brilliant number for Fawlty Towers. Such a brilliant sitcom. I feel Citizen Khan will not be getting a 3rd series and Walliams and Friends should have kept to specials. I have never "got" David Walliams' appeal. EastEnders was fantastic last night a brilliant mix of humour and suspence at the end of the episode. |

But then - unless the BBC relent - there has to be a gap of two years before it can be shown on another channel which takes us almost to 2019.

I suppose in the sense that it will be his last broadcasted show.
Apparently there is a growing campaign to keep him on, but he seems set on leaving. He said it was contractual. The BBC contract was just one year. The US one covers next year as well. But intimated he would probably leave that when free to do so as well. As for a replacement he only said it should be a judge with experience of ballroom and latin as that is important for the balance on the show. |
