It surely does not justify the cost of putting it on.

The real winner last night is Michael Mc Intryre, with his variety type show. It seems people are warming to this show and it's overtaking TXF, which surely is in terminal decline now with ratings less than half they were at the start of the decade.
However, IAC is still doing very well and I reckon 9 million for the final tonight. OK you could be cynical and say the show was getting 14 million at its peak, but this was 2004 when millions of viewers still only had four channels. IAC definitely confounds us every year by still achieving 8-9 million viewers every night, and I'm sure had Ant and Dec left the show after their last contract renewal it would have died very quickly as they keep what is a dated format popular.

Surely it's in cancellation territory now.

Cheap schedule filler in the same way ITV 2 fills its weekend daytime schedule with soap omnibuses, which must cost next to nothing to show and cover their costs with advertising. Interesting, looking at another thread about Christmas 1986, EE's much mentioned 30 million audience over Christmas included the 10 million that included the omnibus. In the 80s, when not everyone had a VCR and the internet didn't exist, the EE omnibus was added on to the show's weekly total, which pushed the show's ratings up to 20 million during its mid eighties height. Also Brooskide, the edgy new soap on Channel 4, benefitted from its Saturday evening omnibus.

No point being on when IAC is on. It probably costs very little to do so maybe 400k is worthwhile to itv2.

I think, well I hope, that we are going to see some radical changes to Saturday evening schedules in 2017 from both channels. Taboo is the first one (Fox in America show a lot of trailers for it!) and Lygo probably is going to shake-up ITV.

ITV's schedule might end up mirroring what the BBC's was...

Aside from The Nightly Show, the sixth Corrie (which I'm gonna bet goes out on Thursday at 8.30pm) and mid-week entertainment (Weds @ 8) I don't think we know of any wholesale schedule changes. In fact I bet there aren't any, which is a shame.

It never did that well against I'm a Celebrity, even when X Factor was getting double what it got last night. The series average will be respectable enough (~400k overnights) for it to be worth continuing with.

I'm sorry but that rating for X Factor cannot be excused - 5.8m (c. 5.5m without the repeat) for it's Semi-Final?

IAC is doing fairly well and brilliant for Strictly as always.

ITV 2 is all about making money on a limited budget, something which it's successful at. Now that TOWIE has been moved and the channel has changed its focus from young women into a wider reaching entertainement channel, shows like Xtra Factor and Britain's Got More Talent are vital in getting an audience cheaply. It's the same on weekday daytime, four hours of Jeremy Kyle deliver 300,000 viewers for next to nothing.
ITV 2's main success this year seems to have come from a show that was despised and ridiculed when it was on the main channel and last year was down to 250,000 viewers at times. Love Island, without the celebs, beat the odds and was outrating BB at times and pulling in a very good, for ITV 2, audience of over one million. Yes to me it's mindless trash, but to ITV 2 it's payday.

No as prime time is classed as 18:00-23:00 in terms of advertising


It's been said this week that the 8:30 start for I'm a celeb has caught out viewers and lead to a very slight drop in figures.

Therefore I can't see running TXF to start at 8:00 for about 12 weeks and then moving to 7:30 half way through Strictly for the last 3 weeks would be seen as anything but terrible scheduling.

I think that it's just it's level now really though, I'll be interested to see if the final Sunday gets a boost to see if the public are willing to come back even if only for the final episode-Last year did and it rebounded to a respectable c8m iirc. It'll be hampered by having Strictly's Semi Final Results show running through most of the first half though.

I do not think a 8.30 pm IAC has caught any viewers out, it's well publicised everywhere and bar XF IAC gets a good lead in. Viewers know it's on, but the extended shows are more of an investment in time, and more susceptible to recording and zapping the adverts etc. Viewers can take out a lot of that 90 minutes, by recording or watching on ITV hub.

But if IAC ran from 8 pm, it would pick up the 11 million potential viewers watching Strictly, who clearly do not want to watch XF live. XF killed ITVs audience therefore damaging IAC.

It's down to the guests acts on only.

Nobody knows for a fact that I'm a Celeb would rate higher on a Saturday earlier. In fact saying as much goes against most of the other "facts" that are often quoted in this thread, namely that of lead in. Remember the TXF lead in is higher than what many shows have had during the rest of the week.

Unless people's remotes stop working at 8:15, I guess the reason it is lower on a Saturday, is because it's a Saturday.

It seems to be its just an excuse to go on about TXF again, but from a different angle.

We already know that IAC rates poorly at 8.30pm but picks up from 9pm, depressing the averages.

Except it really doesn't matter, because anybody wanting to watch IAC can use the new fangled invention of 'catch up'.

I honestly can't wait until X Factor finishes, mainly so that we can get the ratings thread back from the X Factor bashers.

No, the " facts" are that IAC is still a ratings winner, it's won every slot, it's damaged strong BBC1 shows, and whilst has slightly slipped, is strong and engaging.

It's lower on Saturdays due to XF, Strictly is on Saturday but does well.

Seems the latest policy here, is that to try to avoid the truth being said, some posters are selected and said stop going on about XF. It's just trying to avoid the truth, the ratings speak for themselves.

Viewers watch Strictly, they are around, so no excuses such as early Christmas parties or going down the pub. IAC is typically a strong show, it's weakness on Saturday is down to 4.75 million watching XF before it, ( live).

TXF is slowly dying, it's like American Idol in it's last few years, people were losing interest. Also TXF has been recommisionned for another 3 years, which will mean it's 15 years old at the end of the contract, the same age as AI when it was cancelled. I reckon ITV will have to perservere with this declining, expensive show until 2019 and then find a replacement.
SCD, of course, is a year older, but apart from a blip in 2009 when TXF was all conquering, has done very well since. 10-11 million viewers is excellent. Again like IAC, the show has benefited from well liked presenters and keeping the nastiness out. I tend to find it a much classier show to watch without the wailing and whooping audience, the overpowering and garish set and moronic judges.

Let's be honest, the only reason you are sucking up to IAC is to make X Factor look worse. The faux outrage at X Factor's ratings got boring months ago. I was away for a few weeks, and came back to exactly the same discussion and IDENTICAL comments from the same people.

Agree- only reason XF was recommissioned was it was sold in a bundle with the strong BGT.

I'm pleased to see ITV has kept Thunderbirds Are Go at 4pm. I think its doing fine av. 500k. I bigger audience than it was getting at 8.30am in the mornings. I think double.

The breakdown of those ratings shows Tipping Point peaking at 3.5m, then plummets at MTP comes on. And I also I notice the lead in does have an affect on TXF. Instead of a solid lead in, its gets 2m, just after 8pm TXF begins with 4.6m. With a stronger lead in that woud boost the av. This is a fact.

IAC must be an expensive show to make, Ant and Dec will probably get £ 3 million between them to present it( judging by their latest contract), the celebs will probably get the same between them, then there's the cost of hiring the jungle and the hotel, staff costs, travel costs and promotion. I'd say IAC costs ITV £ 10 million over 21 days and it's vital the show does well as there's no repeat potential. Luckily the veteran show has settled around 8 million for the last 7 years and probably makes a healthy profit on advertising.

I don't think that's necessarily true, especially as the final results peaks at the result. This year the viewers did come back for the auditions. It's a test to see if you're still a casual pull if the audience care about finding out the winner. If it middles along in its mid 6s base we know its down to its core audience as isn't capable of dragging casuals back
