Channel 5 doing nice with the afternoon - early evening films.
Indeed. The made-for-TV flicks always deliver for them at this time of year and bring in well above average audience shares. Mrs Miracle tops 1m every year regardless of scheduling.

Is Green Lantern tonight really a premiere as they are claiming on the trailer? Bit late for a 2011 film to be making its debut and I could have sworn it's been on before.

I think that it's just it's level now really though, I'll be interested to see if the final Sunday gets a boost to see if the public are willing to come back even if only for the final episode-Last year did and it rebounded to a respectable c8m iirc. It'll be hampered by having Strictly's Semi Final Results show running through most of the first half though.
The Strictly semi final results finish at 8pm; The X Factor final on Sunday is against Planet Earth II and My Mother and Other Strangers.

Yes indeed, strong ratings for the afternoon films on Channel 5. They are offering a good alternative to what the other channels are doing at that time - there is a market to be tapped into, those people who enjoy getting into the Christmas spirit early!

As for Christmas telly, I am really looking forward to Birds of a Feather, Jonathan Creek, Call the Midwife, Christmas Bake Off and Maigret.

Thanks for that big ratings list lewie.

Strictly absolutely smashing it as usual. It's current overnight series average is 9.7m. Last year the entire series averaged 9.6m. Assuming it can continue and gain momentum for the final in two weeks time, it might end up around 9.8/9.9m. The final rating needs to be a big one!

The X Factor really can't do anymore now can it. It's completely bottomed out and the final results next Sunday will be lucky to hit 7.5m at this rate as the first hour is against Planet Earth II.

IAC continues with it's normal Saturday night numbers. That's the same rating as last night. It then went on to add 2.0m to that for last years final which averaged 9.7m. No reason it can't do that again tonight. I'm hoping for 10.0m.

Does anyone know the IAC rating for Friday yet?

Yes, it's a premiere. Are you thinking of The Green Hornet?

Not a problem Roscoe 8.01m (36.7%) inc. HD & +1 for IAC.

Yeah XF isn't gonna go anywhere else really. It's consistent, that I will say. And I doubt it'll get over an 8m average for the final. Yet again for all of the changes it hasn't gone up.

Meet the Parents is woeful.

Holly & Phil need a new show. Is it time to dust off Dancing on Ice - it's had a bit of a break now
Kevin Lygo did say that he wishes it hadn't been axed. It probably will make a comeback at some point. Depends on where they schedule The Voice I guess as that fills the Q1 shiny floor hole.

Phil only has Mr & Mrs in primetime now doesn't he? Holly doesn't have much going on either. It was a bit odd that they dumped Surprise Surprise. The numbers were decent enough. They definitely need a rethink around how they schedule the weekends next Autumn.

These are the ratings from last year.

Saturday 5th December 2015 - Overnights
BBC One
06:00 - Breakfast: 1.37m (33.4%)
10:00 - Saturday Kitchen: 1.76m (25.1%)
11:30 - Simply Nigella: 1.25m (17.2%)
12:00 - BBC News: 1.52m (19.7%)
12:10 - Football Focus: 1.36m (16.5%)
13:00 - Snooker: UK Championship 2015: 1.13m (10.6%)
16:30 - Final Score: 2.09m (14.0%)
17:20 - Celebrity Mastermind: 2.66m (15.7%)
17:50 - BBC News: 4.48m (24.2%)
18:00 - BBC Regional News: 5.27m (27.6%)
18:10 - Pointless Celebrities: 5.48m (27.9%)
19:00 - Strictly Come Dancing: 10.41m (45.1%)
20:00 - Doctor Who: 4.47m (20.0%)
21:05 - Casualty: 3.81m (17.2%)
21:55 - The National Lottery Live: 3.22m (15.5%)
22:25 - Match of the Day: 3.21m (22.6%)

ITV (inc +1)
17:45 - Catchphrase: 2.80m (14.7%)
18:45 - ITV News & Weather: 2.81m (13.9%)
19:00 - The Chase: Celebrity Special: 3.26m (14.2%)
20:00 - The X Factor: 6.76m (30.4%)
21:30 - I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!: 7.72m (36.6%)
22:35 - The Jonathan Ross Show: 2.22m (15.8%)

Pointless down YOY mainly I suspect because BBC1 are showing rpts, but also because its starting to loose its edge. Its on too often.

SCD ratings are the same, but the shre is up. ITV at 7pm has dropped 5% shares and SCD has gained them. So that's where that's gone.

And TXF is doing better with a more supportive lead in. 1.5m more than last night. The lead in does help. It would have still dropped this year, but not to the extent of 1m. I suspect has The Chase been on last night like last year TXF would have been over 6m.

Tipping Point is doing better than Catchphrase, but I think both should be recommissioned for early evening slots for next year.

Next year here's what I would do to create a supportive schedule against the BBC onslaught.

Saturday

5.30pm Tipping Point Lucky Stars
6.30pm The Chase
7.30pm The X Factor
9pm I'm A Celeb

Sunday

5.30pm ITV News
6pm Catchphrase
7pm Ninja Warrior UK
8pm The X Factor
9pm I'm A Celeb

X Factor has been very consistent since it went live. It seems a chunk of the audience just decided after the pre-recorded stages that they weren't going to watch the live shows and that was it.

I'm not expecting a huge surge for the final as there won't be as many casual viewers around with Planet Earth on. I'm thinking around 7m. I'm just as interested to see how the Saturday show does as last year the Saturday final took a weird and large dip. It can't afford for that to happen this year. One thing this year's final does have to its advantage over last year is that it's a much more open contest, which might help a bit.

I think IAC might just miss 10m tonight, but nonetheless it has had another great run, ITV will be very pleased.

Looking at that list from last year, I'm quite surprised to see Pointless Celebrities down a million on last year. The teatime version is down too so the franchise has taken a bit of a dip. Still very strong for the slot of course. I wonder if Tipping Point is keeping it in check a bit on a Saturday?

Planet Earth will definitely dent it. And yes I'd be really surprised if IAC broke 10m. Although, if it follows the pattern of 2014 which it seems to have done this year, it could get over 10m. The Saturday show (6 December) had 8.00m (37.0%) and the final (7 December) had 10.52m (41.9%). So the same could happen this year but I would be very surprised.

Shame it's lost its steam a little, best series in years.

I doubt ITV will do Saturday night peak time drama - has Lygo alluded to such?

Aside from The Nightly Show, the sixth Corrie (which I'm gonna bet goes out on Thursday at 8.30pm) and mid-week entertainment (Weds @ 8) I don't think we know of any wholesale schedule changes. In fact I bet there aren't any, which is a shame.
No he hasn't and I would not like to see drama at 9 on a Saturday (on either channel TBH). But 9:30 is fine which really makes little sense on my part.

The problem is the channels can't find LE hits to fill the hours. They can barely fill two hours. The beeb seem to be giving up which is even more telling considering the amount of drama they've already been showing on Saturdays.

The one question for BBC is what effect does a Sunday drama on a Saturday have on their Sunday schedules? Does it weaken it? Do people not want two dramas in two days? Is this a problem for itv and their Sunday and Monday dramas? Or maybe people don't care and will watch it all.

So about 0.3m up y-o-y for that episode.

How is Neighbours doing these days as it seems to be crushed between The Chase and Pointless, which are getting a combined audience of 7 million. Actually 20 years ago, while well down on its peak in 1989, Neighbours was getting 7 million for its 2 showings.

Nobody knows for a fact that I'm a Celeb would rate higher on a Saturday earlier. In fact saying as much goes against most of the other "facts" that are often quoted in this thread, namely that of lead in. Remember the TXF lead in is higher than what many shows have had during the rest of the week.

Unless people's remotes stop working at 8:15, I guess the reason it is lower on a Saturday, is because it's a Saturday.

It seems to be its just an excuse to go on about TXF again, but from a different angle.
XF had 6.5m leading up to SCD. The idea that is a bad lead-in is very silly. IAC got 40% share compares to 32% shares in the week. It's a Saturday, people do other things. It's why itv should target an OAP audience at 9pm, more SCD than XF.

Have a show where different musicals do numbers, rather like last night's SCD end dance last night. Something warm and light.

Except it really doesn't matter, because anybody wanting to watch IAC can use the new fangled invention of 'catch up'.

I honestly can't wait until X Factor finishes, mainly so that we can get the ratings thread back from the X Factor bashers.
Me too, im sick of hearing about it.

I think after the success of Michael McIntyre its time they commission. Danny Dyers big night out for BBC 1. A different pub every week with guests and live music and pub games like darts, snooker and pool.

Wow that's brilliant, thank you Ray! You've probably posted stuff like it before but have you any Christmas Eve/Boxing Day ratings from the past? And just to say the work you do in sourcing and posting all of these is incredible

As old man Steptoe would say - bleeding awful. Sorry but that premise sounds really bad, Dyer is a very marmite person and he would be dire (pun intended) as that 'type' of person (i.e. presenting, being an entertainer). Wouldn't work at all.

Last night's @bbcstrictly #MusicalsWeek had a peak audience of 11.2m viewers. Average was 10.4m & 49.1% share. Most watched show on TV! 📺💃🏻

Exactly the same as last year.
Wow! What a fabulous figure for BBC Strictly. It was an awesome show last night. Congrats to BBC Studios and the entire production team.
