Do you know if Ch5 are showing Ken Dodd special on NYD they show every year? I do love watching that, every year.

Lately EE has been mostly flat or even up yoy, as I said. Not sure why tonight's was down quite a bit on 2015.

There were 20m people watching TV at 7pm on NYE last year but they were understandably scattered everywhere. I suspect days like these are great days for sky Cinema which is why their big Xmas Day film is The Jungle Book. Their New Year one might be BvS.

I'm looking forward to telling my wife that I'll be watching live football from 9pm till just after midnight. Need to find the right time to give her the news.

Double checked the fixtures... The good news is that the games are on NYD not Eve. The bad news is that the game I had in mind is actually on Xmas Eve at 9pm.

Eastenders has its " Biggest" storyline for years on NYE, - if you do not know it you can google it.

I know what it is, but it doesn't mean its not all hype like with most EE 'big' episodes recently.

And from 9.30pm on Christmas Day to 7pm on NYD, the BBC look hardly confident in its performance.

Still if ITV offer very little opposition, it should do well.

So people still can't accept that I'm a Celeb did so well and was up year on year that they are now discussing random articles by TV critics. A situation usually reserved for just The X Factor.

Regarding Elf, yes it does well as a guilty pleasure watch and something to tell everyone on Twitter or Facebook on a random day 2 weeks before Christmas, but I doubt it would be a big draw at 3:10 pm on ITV on Christmas Day.

EE was at 7pm on NYD in 2012. Seems the most logical slot given it's an hour long.

The only similarity I can see with The X Factor is certain posters getting very tetchy when anything remotely negative is said about it, even if you are entirely complimentary about its performance.

Given your overall sensitivity where ITV are concerned I recommend avoiding the Christmas Day: BBC or ITV? thread at all costs. Quite possibly the most brutal thread about ITV I've read in all my years on DS. One wonders what the same group of posters would make of ITV's schedule on the subsequent nights.

Christmas and early New Year ratings will be fascinating. It wouldn't surprise me if those few weeks of figures determine who gets to be in charge of EastEnders in the second half of 2017.

I've heard quite a lot of advertising for Jimmy Fallon on E on both Virgin and Absolute Radio, and they're doing a competition on Virgin to win a trip to the states to see the show. Long history of late night shows being not attracting an audience here (Conan on Tru a recent example), wonder if they'll ever learn! Especially now you can see much of the shows on YouTube.

It's me who raised the article and I think I've accepted that it was up YoY - in fact - I've said lots of nice things about the show. However, I'm quite happy to point out things that I don't like or maybe could be improved upon. Furthermore, some of the embolden bits were criticisms of the contestants rather than the show itself.

Just because a show rates well doesn't mean it's beyond criticism.

XF: calm it down
PE2: has misleading editing
IAC: can become repetitive
Apprentice: daft ways of working out which team won sometimes.

I like that BBC1 NYD schedule. Nicely mixing the comedy and drama.

How do we think This is Us will rate?

I am watching on US pace and love it. It's the biggest new hit over there and the 3rd highest scripted show over there currently behind Empire and Big Bang Theory (however I wouldn't be surprised if TIU beats it soon).

If he's not presenting a week of The Nightly Show, I'll... well, I dunno, but I am 99.9% certain that he'll do that. Everyone off I'm A Celebrity, unless they're a complete disaster, will always be offered umpteen ITV vehicles. Rhona Cameron did a load of undistinguished stuff for ITV after she'd been in it, Lord Brocket did a game show, Lady Colin Campbell did some stuff, John Fashanu got offered stuff again. It's always been the case. I doubt Joel's success will have taken many from ITV by surprise, this was presumably always part of the plan to introduce him to a wider audience to give him this stuff.


Incidentally I half wondered if there might be a thread on here complaining that Strictly was promoting ITV's Christmas schedule by doing a dance from The Lion King at the weekend.


Just to point out, of course, these schedules have not been confirmed yet.

Personally not expecting much from This Is Us. It sounds like something which won't translate all that well to the UK market (see also Empire). Slightly surprised to see it on the main channel in such a prominent slot, although it looks as though it'll be pushed back to 10pm in January.
