Yes, agree. The Sunday shows have held up far better anyway, even with this competition- so imagine how stable they would have been YOY without the massively increased competition. PE2 has appeal across ages, Antiques Roadshow (which I believe it faced last year) doesn't.

This will need to be considered in our analysis of this year's results shows going forward.

Agree but it could, and indeed might, have done a lot worse, is the thing. The winner's single has gone straight to the top of the iTunes chart - although obviously that doesn't mean as much as it once did, in the age of streaming, and we shall see if it stays there.

Great numbers and peak for SCD after Saturday's disappointment.

Anyone know if the NYE/ NYD schedules have been confirmed yet, or is that this week?

Quite.

It feels like every year we see the disgusting attitude with which Strictly responds to the idea of having a same-sex couple, presumably for fear of introducing their older viewers to the 21st Century. There are many aspects in which Cowell and his various shows can be held in lower esteem than SCD, but LGBT normalisation is not one of them.

Don't see the BBC Music Awards doing much tonight. Very odd decision to move them to a Monday.

There's the investment in 5STAR post CBB that I expected.

Hopefully some new drama and comedy are on the way as well. Heroes Reborn worked well this year but was only one season. I think The Shannara Chronicles will be back and it rated well before. You're The Worst was good but not sure the ratings were.

I'm surprised and not surprised to see XE top 7m. Not surprised because it's been around 7.2m every week and you'd assume they would mainly watch live this time, but surprised coz many will have watched PE2 and then just watched the second hour of XF live.

The shows have been good but the ratings haven't bounced so they've work to do. I'd dump the mentors element (and so Judge's Houses) and have the public vote in 4 wildcards for a total of 14 acts. But that's all months away and it'll be nice to see this place calm down now XF is done for 9 months.

Have a good xmas and new year, ADP.
And a nice Easter.
Hope you have a lovely summer.

😘

Nice to see SCD up a million over Saturday. Yes most people don't search for the result, I suspect most viewers think it is Live, and plenty who do know the result still watch it (like Derek's wife).
It amused me that the BBC hating Daily Mail - which loves SCD and hates Simon Cowell - gets so angry about a website revealing Strictly results.

These are the same papers and media websites that are happy to reveal the big Xmas story on EastEnders. Yes the soaps want some pre-story publicity but I'm sure they'd like to not have the media giveaway their twists.

PE2 may have dented TXF, but only live. Surely everyone has a recording device, so +1 should largely negate that. Plus you simply turn over when PE2 ends to see the last hour with the winner announced.

Cheers Lewie.
Fabulous ratings for sky's EPL coverage yesterday. Over 1.5m for over four hours of coverage showing again the power of ManU and Liverpool.

Assuming Fox buys sky, the money should keep rolling in for English soccer.

We've only seen the slot average so far and that includes the PE2 clash and six ad breaks.

The second half 5 minute break downs and peak will show a truer picture of how many people actually watched.

Who has been suggesting same sex couples on SCD ? There have been plenty of gay/lesbian contestants over the years, with a same-sex couple one would have to be a professional dancer, the other not.

Fixed your post for you . Sorry if I went on Room 101 I would put the word soccer in it. Horrible word.

BIB That is all fine and dandy but the money does not go where it should be. The national team sucks hard. The FA is a terrible organisation that has no aspirations and is just happy when England just turn up for events.

Personally I hate the idea and think it's right that they don't have it on Strictly main competition. Its inclusive for inclusive sake- Plus it implies that you somehow have to be sexually or romantically compatible with your dance partner which is utter rubbish- Same sex dancing isn't really a thing it the ballroom world, it happens sometimes due to gender imbalance in the couple's- I'd prefer it if they did a gender swap week, where all the males dance with male pros and the girls with female pros if they have to do it- Having one couple being sane sex would stick out for the wrong reasons

Why should Strictly be forced to have a same sex couple? It's other people bringing it up and getting themselves angry about it. Banning gay people from being on Strictly at all would be something to be complained about.

I have gay friends and they didn't have a problem with Will Young or Judge Rinder being paired with women.

Xfactor final just shy of 7 million, almost beaten by countryfile and 4 million behind strictly I wonder how simon Cowell and itv will try and spin this one. Can't even attract casual viewers to the final anymore like it should.

But unfortunately until there's a replacement or it goes so low it can't justify the cost it will continue.

I like how these people continue to pretend like XF is the same show as it was in 2010, expecting it to pull the same numbers.
How many shows can hold 7m against a 9.5m show? Hmm?

Nobody is 'forcing' anything. But the refusal to be open to them because, and I quote, "it's a family show", is appalling. Instead of asking why should it happen, why not ask why not? Particularly when there are contestants - like there were this year - asking to be paired with someone of the same sex. There's no good reason for it not to happen except good old-fashioned bigotry (and yes, "because it's traditional" comes into that category). Anyway this isn't really on topic even by this thread'a standards so so I shall leave it there.

Of course, it was a bit different yesterday because it was a 2pm programme start for a 2.15 kick-off, and then a 4.15 start for a 4.30 kick-off, so there was far less build-up than on a usual Super Sunday, when the matches have an hour and thirty minutes' build-up respectively, and the programme starts at 12.30. Didn't yesterday, of course, because BT had a match at twelve.
