Didn't we have this same sex couples on Strictly argument on here recently already?
The real point about it is simple. Dancing is about men and women dancing together and the forms they create. If you have same sex couples it destroys that equalibrium and would result in the gay couple looking so different that it would be hard to judge them fairly against the other man/woman pairings. As a result they would likely get undervoted and there woulds be uproar about homophobic voting even if that was not what was happening. Several gay contestants on Strictly have said they prefer to dance with a partner of the opposite gender because it is not about sexual preference when you are dancing. So have a gay special of strictly where all the couples are judged equally. It would be the only fair way to do this if it was felt important by enough gay dancers. Strictly have always shown themselves as inclusive and have even had transgender contestants in other countries. Chaz Bono on the US Dancing with the Stars for example. But in that case it worked in ways that are easier to do without almost inviting unintended discrimination as I suspect a gay couple would simply by virtue of the very obvious differences between them and all the other couples competing. Which Chaz dancing as a man and his partner as a woman did not do. Sometimes what looks like discrimination is really common sense. And bear in mind that as a trans woman I am not personally averse to gay dancing. |

Fox have advertised Taboo so much I feel like I've seen the first episode. I'm not keen on the idea of it following Casualty, I would rather it was the drama or the night.
Disappointing but predictable seeing Pointless Celebrities on in the 6slot. They're leaving LIS on an island and saying this is your big LE show on a Saturday night in January. 85 minutes is close to a 110 minute show on ITV which seems a little long. |

Am I a BBC basher now? I've had many accusations thrown at me on these forums over the years but never that
![]() It's mainly disgusting the way they dismiss the idea, the infamous "it's a family show" comment in particular. The BBC as a PSB should have no reservations about breaking with 'tradition' and it's one of the few instances where I agree they put ratings above the quality of their output, but I guess it's their choice.

I wish both BBC One and ITV would shake up the schedules at some point. BBC One on Saturdays is literally just Pointless Celebrities and Casualty with rotating light entertainment shows all year round. At least Taboo is something different I suppose.

Or you could just get former contestants back to perform in a same-sex special - maybe it'd be a Xmas special. Abbey Clancy dancing with Oksana Platero might appeal to some viewers....

In fairness on its day Pointless Celebs is more than capable of being in the same range Let It Shine should realistically be hoping for. Although that may partly be self-confirmation bias relating to my despise for tax dodging Barlow talking there

I think they could have done a better job of that Unforgoten trailer. I'm sure the show itself will be good (the first series was) but that trailer doesn't sell it all that well which is a shame.
The early provisionals just released have Endeavour down for Sunday at 8pm. Everything else is TBA at the moment but BBC1 have (Saturday then Sunday) 6.10 Pointless Celebrities 7.00 Let it Shine 8.25 Casualty 9.15 Taboo 10.15 BBC News 10.30 Match of The Day 7.00 Countryfile 8.00 Still Open All Hours 8.30 Sherlock I think it would be better to start Vera first, the stronger of the two dramas. Though that will go against CTM which it held up well before. So perhaps better Endeavour first. The BBC love to surpise don't they, and wat a surpise that is. Another series + repeats of Pointless on Saturday. Not only is Pointless on all year round, but so it the celebrity version. I predicted that exact same schedule and time slots only a couple of weeks ago. So based on that, is it sticks, I think ITV should go: Saturday: 6pm Take Me Out 7pm Ninja Warrior UK 8pm Dance, Dance, Dance 9.30pm Through The Keyhole Sunday: 6.30pm The Voice UK 8pm Endeavour. NWUK supports the launch of Dancex3 |

That's odd. Did they film all 7 still or did they cancel the recordings? A bit odd, clearly they don't feel confident in it away from CBB. Perhaps the other 3 (if made) will turn up with the Summer series of CBB.

Thanks to Hassaan for this list and lewie for posting in on here.
Truly fascinating stuff. XF concluded as I expected. With PEII in the way for the first hour, it was never going to match last years 8.4m. The series average isn't too bad in hindsight given how the lives have rated but it can't afford to slip any further (although it obviously will). I'd keep the same panel and Dermot and work harder next year on putting through the right acts to the live shows. Strictly really hitting it's stride now. 11.0m for it's result show. I really hope the final can do a high number on Saturday. Surely 11.5m isn't unrealistic now? Planet Earth II concluded with another decent number. What an epic series and fully deserving of the ratings its been getting (and somehow those XF results shows held up remarkably well against it - could have been much worse). Also - can we start a campaign to get Hassaan back on this forum?! He's missed massively and this kind of data is excellent for this thread.

So that's Off Their Rockers,, Next Great Magician, Play To The Whistle, Meet The Parents, Go For It and Jonathan Ross you've axed.
These new shows you're putting up against SCD hopefully will perform well. That's the point I made before. ITV should be using already hit shows against SCD. Not launching new stuff which nobody bothers with because its not enough to tempt themaway from SCD. Nothing ITV has launched against SCD has been a hit. None of the above deserve a recommission. If you think they do, then you are suggesting ITV should just be making do with underperforming shows. Jonathon Ross seems to have recovered some-what, but only recently. |

The trailer for Unforgotten will not get bums on seats if it doesn't look good. Its got to have something to reat viewers aay from DIP.

It would also be better than the usual YBF and start the evening earlier. |

Not perfect, but better than nothing until they get the new & improved board up and running. I don't envy them having to migrate all the data across though - that's one hell of a job I'd have thought and I bet the site will be read-only longer than the 72hrs they claim. |

A good alternative at the moment is to use Google and enter "site:forums.digitalspy.co.uk" followed by the term.

You've made a load of great points today H Of De Vil.
I also think Take Me Out would be much better at 6PM, and it gets it out of the late primetime slot that it's stiffled for how many years now keeping ratings lowish there. It would also be better than the usual YBF and start the evening earlier. Well like you I think TMO would be better into the earlier slot, leading into NWUK, leading into a new dance show. You are keeping the target 16-34olds entertained while BBC1 skews older. I also don't think TMO deserves an 8pm slot anymore. It might pull in the demos, but its weak and is not doing much in this slot. And yes its much better than YBF or Planet's Got Talent pulling in under 2m. Its also a good show to the get night started at 6pm, instead of 7pm, when BBC1 have already got going with Pointless at 6pm. NWUK against Let It Shine woud be good sheduling. NWUK was againt TVUK last year and was pulling in over 4m. It should be capable of that against LIS. |

At least denting them if not killing them off in the process, and also not having them available at quieter times of year.
Also I feel you have too high a benchmark when it comes to LE, maybe lower the bar a tad, ITV isn't BBC1, you have to look more at slot averages rather than an imaginary target that never comes But then what's the point in commissioning new LE shows, only to throw them to the dogs against SCD? You are basically stifling any growth of hits. At least hits like The Chase and NWUK will likely bounce back in easier slots. |
