Didn't we have this same sex couples on Strictly argument on here recently already?
The real point about it is simple. Dancing is about men and women dancing together and the forms they create. If you have same sex couples it destroys that equalibrium and would result in the gay couple looking so different that it would be hard to judge them fairly against the other man/woman pairings. As a result they would likely get undervoted and there woulds be uproar about homophobic voting even if that was not what was happening.
Several gay contestants on Strictly have said they prefer to dance with a partner of the opposite gender because it is not about sexual preference when you are dancing.
So have a gay special of strictly where all the couples are judged equally. It would be the only fair way to do this if it was felt important by enough gay dancers.
Strictly have always shown themselves as inclusive and have even had transgender contestants in other countries. Chaz Bono on the US Dancing with the Stars for example. But in that case it worked in ways that are easier to do without almost inviting unintended discrimination as I suspect a gay couple would simply by virtue of the very obvious differences between them and all the other couples competing. Which Chaz dancing as a man and his partner as a woman did not do.
Sometimes what looks like discrimination is really common sense. And bear in mind that as a trans woman I am not personally averse to gay dancing.
