I lasted just three minutes before I had to switch it off.

Wikipedia (yes, I know) says it went out on Wednesday 28th November. Although, it also says that the host for that year is 'TBC', so that may not be too reliable...

Ballroom dancing is a male/female partnership thing and has nothing to do with sexual orientation. It is about form and motion and fluidity and this to a degree works via the costumes and shapes that these allow to be created.

The steps, lifts and moves all work around one man and one woman complementing each other.

Yes, you could adapt them to suit a gay relationship but the dance that results would be so different from all the others in the same category that it would likely be impossible to get the viewers to judge it fairly in comparison. So inevitably there would likely be underscoring that would then (in my view) not be primarily related to homophobia but to the fact that they are seeing dances that are just too unlike what is expected.

I very much doubt most gay contestants prefer to dance with a same sex partner if they actually want to win rather than just make a political point. To some extent I understand that desire, of course, given my circumstances. But it will likely just make things worse.

Strictly is clearly not remotely homophobic. There have been plenty of gay contestants and they have had trans contestants regardless of whether these were gay or straight trans people (as there are both, of course).

All of this suggests the reasons are to do with the dynamics of the male/female balance in this dance competition which the show seem to feel should be what it is about.

If anyone is pressing for gay couples to get a chance then they should be suggesting a strictly gay special where all the couples compete with the same advantages and disadvantages. Because then the underscoring of a one off gay couple which I suspect would happen because of the uniqueness within the show of the dances they do would not be construed as something that I suspect it would not actually be.”

Jaycee putting it better than I ever could. Strictly's reply to same sex dancers could have been put better, but to suggest it's homophobic because they don't do it is nonsense. Strictly dances are based on the styles between the sexes when they do. A one off special with same sex couples? Yeah try that. Don't force it on the main show as then it becomes an agenda and a stick to beat the show with because they choose not to do it and change a format which works. Some people need to pick their battles better. There are far more places that need better representation and treatment of gay people in society than saying Strictly is bad for not having same sex couples.

Hmm, Eubank Jr's fights were not all that popular when shown FTA on C5.

I think the fight against Blackwell in March was the highest rated (1.5m) but that was as much down to Blackwell as anything.

In any case, boxing is pretty screwed if even ITV are going down the PPV route. A crying shame for the sport.

The BBC Music Awards should change its name to the Top of the Pops Christmas Concert with a reveal at the end for the song of the year.. Slap some christmas decorations around the stage and ensure that they have at least a video of the winner saying thank you if they are unable to do a live link.

It's not MTV and not The Brits and the best way to continue is to just forget trying to create a new awards ceremony.

I wonder if we are approaching a time where adverts that can't be skipped are on catch-up programmes and if you want to remove the ads you'll need to subscribe to a freemium service.
http://www.itv.com/presscentre/press...ption-offering

sky will be different since they already charge subscriptions and boxsets are part of the package.

Maybe they could try offering their catch up programming in HD?

What is it with David Walliams and Robby Williams on absolutely everything this Christmas,
Think most people have seen enough of them for a few years now,but unfortunately more of them to come. Seems like very lazy bookings all round,or is nobody else available.Sick of the sight of both of them.

Thanks guys. It's greatly appreciated. I've closely followed the thread since I left and always felt I'd left a huge hole.

I haven't got that information, unfortunately.

To be fair, although you might not like them, there are plenty of others that do. David's definitely got a busy few weeks ahead of him and Robbie's made quite a few appearances but 'absolutely everything' is a bit of an exaggeration I think.

You don't think that's just a little bit of an exaggeration there? 24 hour, 100 channel TV, and all that?

The thing that annoys me and also makes me slightly sad is how the press release boasts about how so many people watched Eubank's fights back in the 90s, yet there won't even be a million people who'll be paying to watch this fight live, and I don't blame them.

ITV downloads in HD on sky. It has done for a year or two.

@Hassan No worries, I'll guesstimate it, cheers.

I didn't think the BBC Music Awards would do much last night, it wasn't a bad show though, I just think it needs more of a pull and USP to grab more casual viewers.

Cost-cutting measure I'm guessing, since double-headed presentation is the only strength of the ITV Evening News (IMHO).

So ITV are charging £4 a month for what Sky subscribers get in their subscription and still no HD?

Hope they don't start putting ads on ITV Hub on Sky.

Welcome back Hassaan, I wasn't on the forum when you posted previously but your big lists are much appreciated!

And you can finally post in the prediction league all by yourself again!
