It was quite cruel to shut the Ratings Thread on the day, after over a year of speculation, people finally found out where ITV would play Voice.

I think ITV will take a 25 minute overlap with Let it Shine as it does mean the latter 70 minutes of The Voice won't have hugely tough competition to contend with. Ninja Warrior UK should be fine in that slot but before 7pm, BBC One does look stronger.

Through the Keyhole was only managing ~3.5m with an X Factor lead-in of around 7m last time, although that was in early autumn. It'll be interesting to see how it will do this time round.

Rather amusingly, the BBC have shuffled around their schedule so that a) Countryfile starts at the same time as Dance x3, and Antiques Roadshow gets the jump on Endeavour. I can see why they've done that but Still Open All Hours might get lost as a result.

The Apprentice was rather the sole show in competition last night. No other channel was over 2m.

They've done hour long YBFs in January before and they've tended not to do too badly. Something a bit stronger might have helped the rest of the night, but Ninja Warrior has been a pretty good self starter in the past.

BBC1 does look stronger, but only because they are going for the safe. tested and schedule they know the older viewers will flock too. Celeb Mastermind and Pointless feature in most weekends BBC1 schedules somewhere through out the year.

YBF is piss poor for the 6pm slot. NWUK should hold its own against older skewing line up on BBC1.

On the Sunday, BBC1 clearly want to get the older viewers locked it before Endeavour starts. I think the latter will be dented in the process, given its target audience will be watching One all night, and Dance is not going to skew in the right direction. If it flops, the Endeavour is going to have difficutly holding up over 5m against a BBC1 stronghold.

I had wondered if they'd opt for Sundays but all the reports recently had been pointing towards what they've gone for. Makes sense, you don't splash out on poaching a show and then not put it front and centre. Still can't call how it'll actually rate.

This way at least if Dance Dance Dance flops (as I think it might) it doesn't dominate an evening. Plus it's almost guaranteed to be an improvement on that slot last year.

I'm more interested now to see what they do with the later stages of The Voice. Takeaway should be along in late-February which will push back The Voice's start time just as the episodes get longer. DDD will be done by then so there'd be room for some sort of presence for The Voice on Sunday. Plus there's a run of Take Me Out to fit in (that's already been filmed).

Fortunately NWUK managed to rise throughout the ep last year against TVUK.

This year it should be able to do the same, now with a compatible lead out and bigger show following it, than last years Take Me Out.

So does that mean SNT will launch before 7pm. Something like:

6.30pm Saturday Night Takeaway
8pm The Voice UK
9.30pm Through The Keyhole

Or

7pm SNT
8.30pm The Voice UK
10pm Through The Keyhole

Or will TVUK switch to Sunday's once Dance finishes?

Looking at ITV's schedule on the equivalent night this year (9th January):

18:30 - You've Been Framed!: 3.13m (15.8%)
19:00 - Ninja Warrior UK: 4.07m (18.8%)
20:00 - Take Me Out: 3.28m (14.6%)

BBC One in comparison had:

18:10 - Celebrity Mastermind: 4.15m (21.6%)
18:40 - Pointless Celebrities: 5.58m (26.7%)
19:30 - The Voice UK: 7.12m (32.0%)
21:05 - Casualty: 5.23m (24.1%)

Yes, they could probably do better than You've Been Framed but if they had another teatime hit, they'd probably put that there. No doubt if Ninja Warrior UK hadn't taken off, we'd see YBF at 7pm instead. I'd like to think Ninja Warrior has established itself somewhat now and should be fine.

You are right or course, but you can see last year, BBC1 early evening schedule (despite being rpts) sucked up most of the older viewers. Pointless also recieving another late boost as TVUk starts.

It all depends on how Let It Shone does. Personally I think it will do well. There is more chance of CTM flopping than Let It Shine tbh.

YBF not to bad with 3.1m, but they could quite easily chuck in a rpt of Catchrphase or The Chase.

Yes, I can see Dance x3 struggling too. Stepping Out, a similar show, was getting 3.5m on Saturdays up against I Love My Country, a light entertainment flop on BBC1 so I can see this struggling up against older-skewing competition. But anything's got to be better than Beowulf...

With Takeaway returning, I don't think ITV will do something like bringing Takeaway forward to 18:30 as the evenings get lighter (although to be fair, the episode this year that aired at 18:00 didn't do too badly) - I'm thinking Through the Keyhole's run is 7 or 8 parts and therefore would be done by the time Takeaway comes around (I might be wrong though) so they could easily do:

19:00 - Saturday Night Takeaway
20:30 - The Voice UK
22:00 - ??

And of course, they could split it between Saturday and Sunday.

Aren't there a few rugby matches (that might affect the teatime schedule) to contend with too?

I'd call that pretty even but the BBC have the extra weapon of YBF and Caught on Camera. Both of those shows should give BBC a big head start and ITV are asking for a lot of Ninja and Dance³.

Those camera shows could have been sacrifices against SCD meaning MTP and Magician could have been held back for January. I'm sure there's a reason for what itv are doing, I just have no idea what it is.

Dance³ is nicely sat opposite Countryfile and Roadshow - they'll get their 5-7m ratings and Dance³ should get about 4m. I'm surprised Sherlock is starting as late as 9pm as it gives Endeavour a sizeable jump on it.

Once thing I like is that you've got primetime running from 6:30 - 10:30.

The BBC always build up a schedule that flows. They will start their evening's off at 5pm if it means getting the jump on ITV, and getting the evening started. The news at 5.20pm will be over 3m, which will lead into Mastermind, into POintless, into LIS. Once BBC1 has those viewers locked in from Mastermind, they will likely have them for the whole night.

This is what ITV should be doing.

5.30pm ITV News
6pm The Chase rpt
7pm NWUK
etc...

Moments Caught on Camera will be under 2m. I agree with you, Magician could quite easily have sat in the 5.30pm slot, pre Dance. It would probably have done no worse than up against SCD.

Yes, The Halcyon trailer is good. It looks like one of the opening scene of the series. If it was not against Silent Witness I'd say it was looking like a big hit. They need to advertise the bezeebus out of it during Corrie and Emmerdale and it might be an idea for Corrie to be running 10 minutes late on the 7th.

Silent Witness and The Halycon can both rate well in January. There should be enough viewers around.

Definitely a squeeze. They seem to have bought a show and only got enough slots for half the series. As has been pointed out, they won't be able to start Takeaway before 7pm because of the rugby.

They might just run Mastermind repeats on BBC1. Or Now You See It if they've still got some of those. The other point is whether Let it Shine will extend for the later stages - if so it'll have to start earlier as they wont be able to get away with showing Taboo any later than that because of Match of The Day.

I'm sure we'll be told Emmerdale and Coronation Street weren't tape-checked.

As we saw earlier though, YBF got 3.1m in that slot last year - would a Chase repeat really do any better? Unlikely, I think. It feels more like your personal preference rather than what will actually rate best. I agree with the general point though, as do ITV it seems as they've issued a call for more teatime formats.

Caught on Camera was doing about 2.5m in the Sunday 6pm slot in January this year, so I imagine it'll be low-2s at 5.30pm this time. The previous run was 2 episodes, not sure if that's changed this time.

Elsewhere I'm surprised to see that Benidorm isn't part of ITV's January schedule. It's all filmed but no sign of it. Tina & Bobby starts on Friday 13th January for 3 weeks and I think they might start Lethal Weapon after that. So no idea where Benidorm will land. Maybe Wednesdays once Midsomer is done? But even then it'd either have to wait until March or take a week off for the Brits.

Also the Tuesday 8pm offering changed again. It's now Martin Clunes: Islands of Australia at 8pm into Sugar Free Farm at 9pm. Poor Robson Green must think his show is never going to air.
