A great night for the BBC, not as high as previous Sunday's but still nothing to complain about. as the two shows are different beasts to Strictly.

ITV held up well with a decent line up of alternative programming.

Well you know this thread has been known to be a bit partisan , I think one or two maybe think the Beeb are playing a few games. I would imagine though, if anything is going to overrun its an annual event like SPOTY. There seemed a huge amount of candidates on the list this time and all the highlighting/awards/interviews etc, I would think its hard to pin down all that exactly. In the end ITV had a two hour slot covering whatever time it ended, no junctions until 10.00.

Good peak for SPOTY, and a decent average over all that time I guess. The Apprentice, as others have said, is just solid now. Still worth having but past its best, would have been nice to see a slightly higher peak. The first half of the series was rather lacklustre imo, much nearer its best with episodes 8/9/10-and can still create such cringe worthy moments to the extent that I have to look away from the screen.

For what its worth I thought both SPOTY and TA made the correct decisions for winners-and I am so glad with the team of the year decision-it would have been so easy to go another way.

Pretty happy with my predictions. Midsommer will probably consolidate well as people realise it was an original episode. Or they'll just repeat it very soon. Or both.

Good ratings until you think that 7m viewers disappeared in seven days. VOSDAL partly to explain.

Ok for The Apprentice and unless Sugar decides he's had enough it isn't going to get axed when it consolidates to 7m+ every week. But it's a shadow of what it once was. I've watched the whole of this series but without ever engaging with any of the candidates or the tasks. It's all a bit samey and frankly getting a bit boring. I hardly bother with You're Fired now.

Of course, as I said years ago now, the format has been crippled by the fact he no longer searches for an apprentice anyway, the last two episodes render everything that goes before rather pointless. And if it's already decided at the start which business plans are the ones worthy of investment, then the firings become a bit artificial to ensure the right people make it to the end.

The Apprentice timeshifts incredibly well. It's not in the same league as the other major reality shows, but it's been going for over 10 years and the final rating less than 1m behind TXF which is supposed to be one of the leading Saturday night LE shows?

Yes its hard to divorce that fact from your mind-because it must be guiding Lord Sugar. Although, as the penultimate episode shows, the candidates business plans/cv's are so taken apart in that grilling it makes you wonder what the rest of them must have looked like.

Two Doors Down has been recommissioned for a third series.

So pleased about this, thoroughly enjoying the current series.

BIB: Skimming through this thread I thought this was the rating for the main show. Had to do a double take!

The last few CBeebies Christmas Panto's have ended up around 0.8-1.1m in the officials, with a similar overnight to the above. It makes you wonder how high the channel's figures would be if they included the under 4s.

1/ Great nights TV and good viewing figures.
2/ Good for SPOTY and Apprentice.
3/ A Big " Well done" to ITV for strong alternative viewing, they deserved good viewing figures.

The debate on SPOTY overrunning is farcical, a live two hour twenty minutes show with speeches that will very, no matter how many times you rehearse it as most of the awards are not known in advance you cannot predict how long they will speak for. One over ran as he had a lot of emotion.

To say the BBC deliberately did it, is so so wrong, it would actually hurt them more with Apprentice running late on a night before a working day. ITV had a two hour programme on with no junction at 9 pm, those deciding to watch say the Apprentice at 9 typically would not watch MM from 8 and interrupt it.

This is a Everest mountain out of a wormhole, ( not even a molehill).

I went for 5.9 in the predictions game, slightly below the low 6's it was getting as a main series. The long gap will mean people have either forgotten about it or are anticipating it, don't know which it will be.

I wonder if they'll ever do a proper new series?

Agreed, it's usually great. My only issue is that I've forgotten most of what's happened since the last series as it's been so long.

On a different note, SPOTY did well and The Apprentice performed well. ITV didn't disgrace themselves either, I was expecting Mr and Mrs to bomb.

So it's actually 6.12m - which puts it ever so slightly (10k IIRC) up on the 2013 final. Good stuff. Also, it topped Sunday!

4.45pm Santa Claus: The Movie 2.3m (13%).

Poor share, but good rating for this orginally box office flop film. BBC1 were showing Countyfile at the time which decreased its share.

ITV are repeating this again over the next few days, and for me, its like Muppets Christmas Carol and Trains, Plains and Automobiles...inthat I can watch them over and over, and they entetrain me just the same.

That boost is the av. being inflated by SPOTY overlap.

Catchphrase alsways rpts so well on ITV2. I remember a year back, a Christms edition on Christmas Day topped the multichannels with 1m.

YBF also repeats well on ITV2

I don't think this series was any worse than previous ones but I find that I'm beginning to just tire of the format. Still, it's doing fine so yeah it's going to stick around for a while yet.

No need to keep downplaying this tbh. The Apprentice is a success, posting very similar numbers every year bar usual fluctuations.
