Auditions were fine, then for the lives the ratings went down. Needs to be sorted out for next year.
And have you any suggestions as to how that might be accomplished? The simple truth is that the live shows are basically disposable. All the interest is in the few weeks that the worst singers get to strut their stuff, then seeing who gets through. After that, the grinding down to the final is just a turgid, repetitive, and predictable karaoke competition. Some people will return to see who wins on the final weekend but I don't see any way to persuade them that they should sit through the entire competition now.

There is little doubt that there will be a further decline in audience for the whole show and the live shows in particular next year and again the year after that both in actual numbers and audience share, and if more papers turn against it, treating it as laughing stock rather than event, as a result it could be become an extreme embarrassment for everyone concerned. I really don't think anyone stands to benefit from failing to take the opportunity to give it a rest for a year or two in 2017 and then re-assess the demand with a rather more refreshed talent pool.

Yep - would you like them exc/inc +1 or just one or the other?

All of that may be true for sure.
However they got back on track with the lightness of the show this year and laid some foundations down. I'd tweak the format to remove the mentoring element and would consider moving it to Tuesdays and Wednesdays (basically American Idol) but I know it won't happen.

ITV need to fix the 7pm hour. Considering what CTM did to DoI, their best bet might be a suitable drama for the slot. More Durrells than Beowulf. Not only is it more likely to rate than a new LE format, it may repeat and export too.

No. But then I stopped watching years ago for all the reasons that I indicated and more. It's your thesis that it must survive and be fixed. Like many who used to watch but have grown tired of it I'm more than happy for the X to become ex.

Presumably that's a figure you've calculated across all series? If so, it's interesting to see how close they are across all series, while their series averages this year vary quite a lot.

The Apprentice timeshifts incredibly well. It's not in the same league as the other major reality shows, but it's been going for over 10 years and the final rating less than 1m behind TXF which is supposed to be one of the leading Saturday night LE shows?
I didn't even mention Crap Factor which no one watches.

Would feel a lot happier about those averages if I could have converted it all in Excel and it'd have taken a minute and I'd still have the data. I feel like I'm back using a Casio calculator at school!

BGT 9.6m
IAC 9.5m
XF 9.8m.
SCD 9.6m

All very close though of course not currently close with XF way below the others now. In total viewership terms XF would be way ahead since it has had far more episodes and minutes of TV time.
The second sentence may go some way to explaining the first sentence.

7.6m series average is nobody watching.
Meanwhile EE and Emmerdale are around the 7m mark for their highs.

Shows that beat 7.6m in the consolidated week:
SCD, IAC, Corrie and PE2. Only Corrie remains on air now.

Meanwhile we say if LIS and TVUK can get 6m like MM then they'll be very happy and Dance³ will be pleased with 4m.

It's a funny old world, Saint.

People still watch X Factor. Its numbers are down but are around 6/7m for live shows.

Looks like Stricltly will have its highest series average since 2010 and the second highest rating series overall- It's good for any show to gain year on year, but SCD endures really well (As does IAC)

All the pure talent shows seem to have suffered this year, I wonder if that'll be a continued trend into 2017- ITV will certainly be hoping it's not

BGT hasn't "suffered", the auditions were the highest since 2012 and had its highest individual audition show since 2009. Seven years!

While we're at it, here are some pretty graphs showing the three talent shows since 2012, by stage. ITV excludes +1 for fairness. BGT is super-strong, it's not "suffering"...it's back in half-term week this May/June.

Live shows (excluding final) - https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C0DbU7nXEAAlYtB.jpg

The only thing The Apprentice is better then is The X Factor, Probably much cheaper too.
