Emmerdale so close to being top soap in share, and a good solid 6.4m overnight. Tonight should be 6.5m with the big ep.”

Corrie is nearly hitting 9 million in the officials and averaged 7.8m the week before last across 6 episodes. That's good enough for now I think!

Corrie really don't deserve their big ratings while EE and Emmerdale deserve to be so much higher.

Hope Last Tango in Halifax does well in the ratings.

EE is not much behind Emmerdale, it's just quite a few points behind in share. Corrie has the same advantage as EE as far as start times is concerned and is cashing in with the extra million viewers.

All three are really still doing well - 6m would be close to huge for a LE show and few dramas consolidate to 7m. The direction of travel is not good for the soaps but I don't think it's any different to LE or factual shows.
I'm not sure how it compares to dramas, you'll probably have a clearer idea than me.

Another strong Emmerdale tonight, for the second time this year being really creative and doing something that I don't think has ever been done in the world of soap before.

And unlike last time when certain people dismissed the praise and had a go at the show, they didn't just "blow something up yet again".

Truly groundbreaking episode of ED tonight. Very effective and moving. ED yet again showing the other soaps how it's done.

There has always been and will always be a very loyal BBC audience.

Emmerdale was amazing tonight. Difficult to watch but gave such an insight in too how dementia suffers minds work.

Emmerdale was wonderful tonight. The story is a bit close to home on a personal level, was very emotional viewing. Hope it rates well.

Another awe-struck Emmerdale viewer here. Lost my gran to dementia and I know how much this story is going to affect many viewers, but my word it was impeccably put together, written, acted and directed.

Deserves a BAFTA, without a doubt.

I was only trying to have a joke

For what it's worth, I caught most of ED tonight and it was a very well done episode.

30% for EastEnders based on last night's rating would be 6.63m. Not so unrealistic but I don't know where that spike would come from.

Tonight's Emmerdale looks to have gone well but I'm not sure it'll get a boost. That said, they have specifically promoted tonight's episode.

Could the Tribute to Jean Alexander beat Holby City in the ratings tonight. The two soap fans in this household are watching it live and Holby is being recorded.

Not sure about Paul O'Grady's Favourite Fairy Tales. This seems an "unusual" offering from ITV to say the least and my mum, a big POG fan, isn't remotely interested in this. She's a Last tango In Halifax fan which, obviously is tougher competition than the constantly underperforming Holby City.

Episode 1 of the LTIH Christmas special underperformed a little last night IMHO, but maybe with the big audience for the football on Sky Sports, that's understandable. It should timeshift quite a lot though - enough to take it up to, or close to, a solid 6.5m.

Emmerdale was fantastic tonight and again proving why it's head and shoulders above any other soap right now. It's had an excellent year and I'm hoping 2017 is just as good.

Corrie and EE should take note.
