So RadioTimes have done a top 30 of 2016 for TV shows, with their top 5 being:

1. The Night Manager
2. Line of Duty
3. Happy Valley
4. Fleabag
5. War & Peace

I thought it would be fun if we all did a top 5 on the ratings thread. My top five would be:

1. The Night Manager
2. Game of Thrones
3. Victoria
4. The Durrells
5. Happy Valley
Stuff I liked...

The Man In The High Castle
Flash
Daredevil
Vikings
Fortitude

Not finished them yet but Crown, Lucifer, Luke Cage (Jessica Jones was good) and Last Kingdom are others off the top of my head.

Non drama, Real Marigold Hotel and Barbarians Rising deserve a mention.

As Lewis says, best to do that at the end of the year. Who knows what the next few days will bring.
And don't forget Channel of the Year

Thanks. Was it on a trailer on its own? Or was it with other animations?
On its own. Just before Dickinson I think.

Have we ever done a ratings thread awards type thing for best of the best, biggest flop, etc.? Might be a nice idea to announce the results on NYE or something.

I think it's also good to explain the choices on the thread to generate debate, not just give on programme/channel.

Coronation Street has a long way to go. Its ratings are still looking a bit weak, though solid. I'm still yet to tune in fully as a viewer again. So I hope 2017 can start with abang and some fresh storylines and writing.

Emmerdale is heading towards Christmas as the strongest looking soap. I hope on Christmas Day it can give Doctor Who a run for its money and win its slot. It looks like they might be having an excellent episode on Christmas Day.

The Chase is now its repeats. It is now experiencing the same position Pointless was in only last year, where by repeats do not affect its rating. ITV must be over the moon, and have seen what happens when they keep The Chase at 5pm. It has had time to match Pointless, and now overtake it. 27% is superb, particuarly as it doesn't have a massive news lead in. Viewers are so conditioned into watching a quize show at 5pm, it will take a while for them to stop watching.

Only last year ITV replaced The Chase with a rpt of the Text Santa special only a day or so after, and it boosted Pointless to 4m (29%). Then they showed a rpt of ASM&M which bombed, and Pointless again got a boost. Perhaps they'lll learn from their mistakes.

on the multi-channels, the BBC4 doc did well, and its nice to see an orginal ITV3 commission make the top10.

We used to do it around the few days before NYD.

Yeah I agree, plus if we did voting or something it would be hard to find just three or four things for each category when there are such a wide range of programs/channels to pick from.

Up to Tuesday I was told that Tipping Point was ahead of the Christmas afternoon films. So people don't mind the same schedules even in Christmas week. Also keeping it on all year round and not taking a break, which Pointless was criticised for, is actually a sound strategy.

It's a funny old business television.

Barely anything for me. Just Corrie and maybe Alan Bennett's Diaries.

Thanks. I expected it tbh. The older viewers will probably have moved over to ITV.

Tbh I prefer the films the afternoon this close to Christmas. I think ITV should have had some films on by now.

But the BBC does show Pointless all year round, with very few breaks. Its now started to wear itself out. Pointless returns to BBC1 on the 27th.

Is there nothing that interests you on this day? No films, or Christmas films. Comedies?

I'll probably end up watching something but none of it stands out to me. Christmas Day, on the other hand, is fully booked!

Better than the BBC's BBC2 and BBC4?

I'm shocked at the lack of respect for these great institutions this poster has.

How many months of repeats has Pointless been in now? New episodes get lost in them. It always takes a bit of time to get people watching again as de saw with The Chase in early Autumn. My mum always watches Pointless and The Chase but The Chase has more younger viewers doesn't it H?

I like films in the afternoon over Christmas but it's still like a working week, next week more will be around for them. I'm assuming this anyway.

BBC 2 and 4 provide some good content too but they are much more niche aren't they. I enjoy The Daily Politics and Newsnight.

I'll be watching Birds of a Feather - it's the show I am most looking forward to on Christmas Eve and out of the whole festive period really. I really hope it rates well, it looks like it's going to be really funny!

I'll also watch Corrie and EastEnders, and catch up with Michael McIntyre on the iplayer.
