Today, the 23rd of December, is a milestone. 10 years ago today, ronant started the Christmas Ratings Thread which has led to this current thread, and all 68 parts of it! So we can say happy birthday to the ratings thread today

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=503081

This made me laugh
That takes me back! We were looking at ratings on the other place in 2005 when Doctor Who returned with Rose. The days when most people didn't have ratings access and ratings reports weren't abundant.

Doesn't emmerdale usually dip on Christmas Day? I imagine it'll be dented by the fact it's on a 5.45pm. Doctor who has a stronger lead in as well with the Christmas bake off
It does, but I think Emmerdale and Coronation Street could do better this year as ratings are good going onto Christmas Day. EastEnders might surprise us too, but that depends on how Thursday does. If it is high when we see the ratings tomorrow then it might get a Christmas Day boost.

Doctor Who is sandwiched between two popular shows in Bake Off and Strictly, which could boost the start and end of it.

That's a good point. Nice to celebrate a 10 year ratings thread anniversary on this software.

I think a later start could hurt Mrs Brown's Boys. Interestingly, I see that tonight's repeat shown at 10.45pm is currently in the iPlayer chart at number 9. Couldn't it surprise us on Christmas Day with its rating?

Can't wait. We should be able to add images with the new one which means Hassaan's ratings graphs.

Hate to say it but ITV have been incredibly lazy this year.

Other than Christmas Eve and Maigret on Christmas night, it's absolutely shocking. They've basically just stuck a film on every single night, most of which have been seen several times. Captain Phillips is about the only decent premiere among the bunch.

I know they have had other successes and a very packed January but there's really no excuse. I mean, on NYE they're not even doing a broadcast centred around the fireworks. It's just them and then straight to a repeat of The Chase. There's really nothing else to say other than they deserve low ratings for the amount of effort they've put in.

In contrast, the BBC has plenty to look forward to, although not as much as last year. Good to have Jonathan Creek and the Agatha Christie thing though.
I know this comment doesn't fit with the nature of this thread but I really don't think it matters what the ratings are like over the next week. Yes there is a big willy nature to it but it is not important to commercial TV.

It's interesting that it is the BBC and sky that are putting more effort in to having notable programming on over Xmas, channels that are pay TV rather than free to air TV. Even the Beeb doesn't quite feel like it's going all-in on Xmas, maybe that's just my perception and it really is.

In all honesty I kind of hope that the trend for poor ratings over Xmas continues, I quite like the idea that people aren't bothering with the box over Xmas.

Well I hate to burst your bubble, but if ratings are down it'll be much more likely people are streaming stuff, possibly in their own room, or watching box-sets on Netflix etc. (hence the shows in the top 5 in many peoples lists), or playing Games on their devices rather then sharing a around the whilst opening

Its amazing how so many viewers watch these cooking shows on BBC TV every year, when they are basically on all year round. When one finishes, another begins.

Thanks lewi.

We're getting new runs of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Twin Peaks in the first half of the year. Best year ever.
