Doesn't emmerdale usually dip on Christmas Day? I imagine it'll be dented by the fact it's on a 5.45pm. Doctor who has a stronger lead in as well with the Christmas bake off
Doctor Who is sandwiched between two popular shows in Bake Off and Strictly, which could boost the start and end of it. |

Hate to say it but ITV have been incredibly lazy this year.
Other than Christmas Eve and Maigret on Christmas night, it's absolutely shocking. They've basically just stuck a film on every single night, most of which have been seen several times. Captain Phillips is about the only decent premiere among the bunch. I know they have had other successes and a very packed January but there's really no excuse. I mean, on NYE they're not even doing a broadcast centred around the fireworks. It's just them and then straight to a repeat of The Chase. There's really nothing else to say other than they deserve low ratings for the amount of effort they've put in. In contrast, the BBC has plenty to look forward to, although not as much as last year. Good to have Jonathan Creek and the Agatha Christie thing though. It's interesting that it is the BBC and sky that are putting more effort in to having notable programming on over Xmas, channels that are pay TV rather than free to air TV. Even the Beeb doesn't quite feel like it's going all-in on Xmas, maybe that's just my perception and it really is. In all honesty I kind of hope that the trend for poor ratings over Xmas continues, I quite like the idea that people aren't bothering with the box over Xmas. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() I know this comment doesn't fit with the nature of this thread but I really don't think it matters what the ratings are like over the next week. Yes there is a big willy nature to it but it is not important to commercial TV. It's interesting that it is the BBC and sky that are putting more effort in to having notable programming on over Xmas, channels that are pay TV rather than free to air TV. Even the Beeb doesn't quite feel like it's going all-in on Xmas, maybe that's just my perception and it really is.
