A rare occasion where the top 10 is exactly 50/50 between BBC One and ITV.
And a Chase rpt at 9th!

Thanks for the list.

Daringly written in blank verse, King Charles III
Is that daring then? If they hadn't mentioned it I don't suppose anybody would notice so natural is the rhythm of blank verse.

The English are cursed to speak in blank verse
And sarcastic wit - they're really the worst!

So in What's On TV they state Grantchester will be on our screens in the next few weeks. So my guess is, it'll return on Wednesday 25th January at 9pm, with Little Big Shots at 8pm once Midsomer Murdrs finishes its 4-part run.

I would have liked to see this line-up tried out on Sunday as an experiement and create some more risky scheduling. Clearly 8pm on Wed for LE isn't really working.

Happy 10th birthday to the ratings thread! I've been following since 2012, while I was still in school. I'm liking the new emojis. I wonder when they'll be doing the update? I've got an issue when using the mobile version where it randomly logs me out or switches to the desktop version when I click on a thread or go to another page. Does anyone else have this problem?

BBC1 (Top 3: 7pm-11.15pm):
EastEnders: 5.76m (28.7%)
Celebrity Mastermind: 3.82m (19.9%)
BBC News (10pm): 3.67m (21.5%)
Celebrity Mastermind did well. Not great for EastEnders.

BBC2 (Top 3: 7.30pm-11.5pm):
MasterChef: the Professionals: the Final: 3.09m (14.8%)
Christmas University Challenge: 2.59m (12.9%)
Close to the Enemy: 1.48m (7.7%)
Really good night for BBC Two, particularly MasterChef.

Channel 4 (Top 3: 7pm-11.5pm) (exc. +1):
The World's Most Expensive Toys: 2.04m (10.6%)
The Secret Life of the Zoo at Christmas: 1.53m (7.3%)
Alan Carr's 12 Stars of Christmas: 0.78m (5.2%)

#worldsmostexpensivetoys watched by 2.3m/11.9% (inc. +1). Great numbers for its slot on Ch4 @Boomerangtv_ http://overnights.tv
Not a bad night for Channel 4, and the Alan Carr show seems to at least not have lost any further viewers from Monday.

Excluding +1:
Celebrity Juice: Xmas Gogglyboxers (ITV2): 0.55m (3.6%)
Educating Joey Essex: What Are You Sleighing? (ITV2): 0.27m (1.4%)
I still don't see the appeal in the Joey Essex shows but I suppose I'm outside of the target demographic. Was Celebrity Juice a compilation show of sorts?

Thursday Top 10: Main channels (inc. +1 where applicable)

1 ITV - 07:00 PM Emmerdale 5.825m 30%
2 BBC One - 07:30 PM EastEnders 5.758m 29%
3 BBC One - 06:30 PM Regional News and Weather 5.655m 32%
4 ITV - 08:00 PM Emmerdale 5.410m 25% Probably around 5.7m (?) tapechecked
5 BBC One - 06:00 PM BBC News at Six 5.161m 30%
6 BBC One - 07:00 PM Celebrity Mastermind 3.816m 20%
7 ITV - 06:00 PM ITV Regional News 3.735m 22%
8 BBC One - 10:00 PM BBC News at Ten 3.670m 22%
9 ITV - 05:00 PM The Chase 3.644m 25%
10 ITV - 06:30 PM ITV Evening News 3.633m 20%
The Chase doing consistently well. Do we know what the highest daytime ratings for both The Chase and Pointless are?

I'm sure Pointless hit 4.5m for the Children in Need special in 2013 - ITV were showing The Paul O Grady Show at the time. The Chase got 4.3m in January 2013 when we had snow. I'm not sure if either have been any higher than that recently.

Grantchester can't return to Wednesdays as the Brits are on the 22nd February unless they plan to rest it a week.

It may of been mentioned but is the nightly show going to be on itv at 10pm ?

Another Hobbit film tonight I wonder if it will tank like it did last saturday along with lord of the rings.

7 days/nights of harry porter next week itv you are really spoling us.....not those that like harry have seen them endless times how do we think these will do in the evenings
2 million ? One of them is on at 9pm and finishes at 00.20 or something

They should of saved the james bond films from the summer and shown those or something ?

It's a shame we do not get the top10 of programmes that aren't news or soaps. Well, a top20 then.

As always, thanks Mr T for all of the updates.

How low will the ratings have to go for this idiot before ITV2 pulls the plug and stops trying to make a star out of him? (I had to use the rolleyes, it's been too long! Plus yay, the DS snowman! It wasn't Christmas without seeing him under the old DS logo!)

Happy Birthday to the Ratings Thread!

Been reading from the start, and posting occasionally since 07 - quite scary to think I've probably read very nearly all the posts made on 68 editions of that thread over that time! The days of my life I must have spent... I suppose everyone needs a hobby!

Last night and tonight look like they'll very much be the quiet before the storm in ratings terms - not that I'm expecting anything too big over the festive period. It's interesting that people are still looking out for a festive bump for EE - in reality, I think that phenomenon died a few years ago. Christmas Day is just another 'normal' rating for it these days, as it is for the other soaps. New Year is the stronger day, just because of the number of people watching TV.

Wonder when Humans' fate will be sealed? Chances of its recommission seem slim based on the numbers. Stupid leaving such a gap and putting it out like a lamb to the slaughter on Sundays.

Who's the idiot though? Joey Essex or the people who keeps giving him shows?

Someone at ITV seems to be clinging onto the days when TOWIE and it's 'cast' was still relevant.

X Factor winner Matt Terry charts at No.8, which is disappointing to say the least. Despite Simon Cowell's bets efforts, X Factor just isn't relevant.

This was its second week in the charts. It debuted at #3 last week.

The charts have changed considerably in the past couple of years thanks to the inclusion of streaming, I don't think it necessary says much about X Factor at all.

1. X Factor is finished, how is this related its ratings and therefore to this thread?
2. So audiences of 8, 9, 10 million aren't relevant? You get funnier by the day Aaron!!
3. It charted at no.3 next week, but nice pathetic attempt at spin.

I didn't realise the topics we could discuss were limited, when did that come into place?

The ITV News article said it was placed at No.8, so their "pathetic attempt at spin" not mine.

Is this you not being aggressive as you said the other night?

I think it does, when you consider X Factor was always guaranteed to be the No.1.

Well posting about random chart positions is not optimally suited for a ratings thread, a 5 year old could work this out. That's why a forum is divided into 'threads' and not just one big chatroom.

But it was placed at no.3 last week, way higher than Louisa Johnson managed last year. But no mention of that in your post? I wonder why?

If you post daft statements like "X Factor isn't relevant", you can expect to get a response.

It was #3 last week and has still ended up outselling last year's effort. I don't know if it's the winners single itself but it definitely doesn't have the impact it once had. Christmas No. 1 sales on the whole are pretty disappointing though.

I disagree with the idea that The X Factor isn't relevant though. This year alone, four acts from The X Factor have had a number one album (Olly, James, Little Mix and Zayn from 1D). Seven of them (including Matt) have had a top 10 single (James, Little Mix, Zayn, Louis from 1D, Matt, Louisa and Niall from 1D), which increases to 7 if you extend that to top 20 (where you can include Olly).

Interesting, apart from the soaps being higher, they aren't the greatest set of figures, Deal or no Deal stands out as it is in its death throes now.

Maybe he should have said X-Factor hasn't been relevant for 2years.

Fact is yes the singles used to sell many, many more, and ruin the Xmas number 1 race.

Hassan mentioning all the previous competitors still doing well, actually proves that more then it doesn't. Was once a phenom in both ratings and acts, is not anymore, just another show.

I didn't mention Louisa Johnson because I didn't know (and quite frankly couldn't care less).

You can't even resist rudeness at this time of the year. Happy Christmas Dan.

Because nothing says 'festive spirit' like relishing in a charity single not performing as well as previous years...
