Nope, just the trash. Moffat's capable of recent greatness (see Heaven Sent) but for the most-part he turns in kiddie-krap that would look underpowered on CBeebies, as this did.

...

Dallas Buyers Club premiere tonight is weird scheduling - Is that what Five thinks sits well on Xmas Day as people recover from a food-coma and are sozzled on all manner of eggy booze? Rating - 400k?

I wonder how many have turned away from ITV in the last few years because of the absolutely ridiculous amount of adverts. Can't say I'm surprised their ratings are going down and down.

I expect many. Never watch live anymore. So much time wasted. Last night's ad free Granchester is 66m long.

Two hour dramas that used to have a 100m running time and three breaks are now 88m with six!!

I have occasionally considered starting a DS thread entitled "Not Another Bleeping Commercial Break", somewhere I could go to to complain every time I come across a commercial break when channel-hoping or just changing switching over to have a glance at whatever is on such-and-such commercial channel.

Usually you would expect to see the breaks at quarter-past, half-past, quarter-to or on the hour (every fifteen minutes) but somehow it doesn't seem to matter which minute of the hour it is, I still come across a bloody commercial break. For instance I turned over to Gold to catch a bit of The John Bishop Christmas Show at 8.38 and they were on a bloody commercial break. They were also on one on Watch (showing the film Oliver!)

QI XL on Dave was on the programme rather than a break (they've just gone off to one at 8.44), but it's one featuring Carrie Fisher which is a bit uncomfortable (although, of course, she features quite a lot on Sky Star Wars HD (or as Sky appear to have called it, SkyStarWarsHD - no gaps).

Well, I don't believe ITV are showing any more adverts than they did a few years ago. It probably just feels like it now there's the option to fast forward through them.

Just turned to BBC1 and watched a little of CTM. Although I appreciate its quality, it just feels totally out of place on Christmas Day. I watched ten mins and felt depressed, not to mention the full 90 mins! These specials would really work on any other day (maybe bar Christmas Eve too) I just don't know why they insist on placing it on Christmas Day!

Totally agree, and I am sure it would rate better on any other day as well, I can't see tonight getting above 6M and another night you could add a couple of extra million. I know it won't change but please next year BBC mix things up, we want some comedy, Entertainment and Animations on Christmas Day not constant drama.

Next year I'd like to see this

3.10 Normal Animated film
4.40 New Animation like The Stick Man we had last year
5.20 Doctor Who
6.20 Strictly Come Dancing
7.30 Eastenders
8.00 Michael McIntyre Christmas Show
9.00 Eastenders
9.35 New comedy/revival
10.10 Mrs Brown's Boys

Not much difference from this year but just splitting Eastenders and bringing in MM instead of CTM makes it look so much better.

There are no more adverts than there has been in over a decade and there are also no more on ITV than any other commercial channel.

At this time of year the ad breaks probably feel more intrusive because they are so brash, loud, annoying and repetitive. This probably makes people savour the BBC even more.

I believe DFS have had approx 8 adverts an hour all day on ITV, and probably the same everywhere else as well, so unless their ad budget is 100 billion pounds, it shows how low the rates are.

Strictly at 5pm with EastEnders pride of place is like a schedule from a couple of years ago. We'll see how it does today, but I think the BBC have made the right decision moving EastEnders later. Last year it was one of their lowest rated shows and that was at 8.45pm.

Thank you so much Ray for those past Christmas ratings!

EastEnders couldn't go much earlier and Strictly is more of a teatime show, but I wouldn't say EE takes pride of place.
