Jane Hill is the BBC1 presenter today, she did the evening bulletin at 2:50pm

I doubt any sort of thing has been planned considered he was only 53!

For older celebrities, reports have certainly been prepared. George Michael was by no means old.

I hate when news reviews of the year are made before the year ends. Do they not think there could be a major news story on New Year's Eve? The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami that killed around a quarter of a million people occurred on Boxing Day.

Another celebrity death to make us all collectively gasp. Sad.

He wasn't old but he did have addiction and health problems so it wouldn't be surprising if they did have something lined up

EastEnders continues to be a work-in-progress. 50 minutes of filler, with some plot development for Phil and 1 minute of actual drama at the end does not a good episode make. Coronation Street will be top soap, I predict.

Doctor Who and Strictly were better than I thought they would be. Not sure about Bake Off on Christmas Day. It didn't feel quite right. Not that the BBC has that problem again.”

Those programmes you mentioned may dent Corrie whereas EE didn't have that level of competition (and, regardless of what happened in the actual episode, people will still have watched).

I think Strictly will end up coming out on top, Lion King seemed to be well talked about and may have cut into Bake Off. The Queen's Speech seems to have got more coverage than in recent years as well.

I agree I think Strictly will be the highest rated programme. EE will be top soap.

The beeb will come out on top but I don't know about winning 'big'.

The Christmas Day overnight ratings have really waned in the last couple of years.

I'm pretty sure when the figures come out we'll see Corrie ahead for last night. It had the better slot and CTM will have stalled BBC One's momentum. We didn't watch anything after Bake Off but then we did have people in. Planning to catch up on some things today.

We put the telly on for the first time at 10.55pm last night. The only thing I actually recorded was Mrs Brown's. Not to say the offerings were weak, but that was the only thing I particularly wanted to see.

Xmas Day schedules all a bit meh. The festive must watches are all on other days. No wonder the ratings are so mediocre. But I'm sure all 7 bbc1 3.10-11pm shows will consolidate in 7 days to decent numbers of over 8m.

The combination of EastEnders starting at the fringes of peak-time, plus the fact that nothing really happened for the first 50 minutes, will mean Coronation Street will take top soap. In turn, Mrs Brown's Boys will be a disappointment.

Underwhelming figures all round is my hunch.

Im hoping for EE to win New Years Day. I thought the episodes this week have been fantastic, even if Christmas was a bit more relaxed and happy than we're used to.

If the highest-rated show was GBBO, hard to remember the last time a programme not in peak time was top on Xmas Day.

I think SCD will be top. It was on against YBF.

It wasn't. YBF was against Bake Off.

Still no numbers on overnights.tv. Hope they've not been delayed...

GBBO and SCD lose something when there isn't really a competitive element. MBB was only 30 mins and up against Maigret, which hasn't really proved itself.

Of course it was. Therefore GBBO will win the night

Thanks lewi.

Low top number. Though I don't understand why SCD does so well on Christmas Day. Its been on for months, and yet still does well on Christmas Day.

Decent figure but doesn't bode well for everything else if that's the ceiling.

And probably boosted by the last 15 being against the news.
