Jurassic World probably will be NYD rather than Christmas Day.”

RTE showed the Lego Movie this Christmas Eve, so FTA embargoes must be longer in the UK.

Will the BBC have Inside Out this Christmas? Wasn't that a bigger hit than Big Hero 6?

Inside Out was released last year so that won't be on terrestrial until Christmas 2018 at the earliest, I'd have thought.

Inside Out was Summer 2015 so in theory they could show it but they'll probably want to spread the number of animated films since The Good Dinosaur will be relegated to Christmas Eve or Boxing Day 2018, I suspect they'll save it for 2018. I think they'll want Inside Out and Zootropolis for Christmas 2018/NYD 2019 and Finding Dory/Moana for Christmas 2019/NYD 2020.

They didn't show Maleficent this year so I suspect they're saving it for next year, same with Guardians of the Galaxy. Cinderella will likely have its FTA premiere next Christmas plus Shaun the Sheep and Home.

Have it on good authority that Guardians of the Galaxy is the Easter Bank Holiday film in 2017.

I didn't know I did either. If you want to do it in your own way that's fine by me.

Pretentious? Actually, I think this year and last year are back to the Pre-Moffat Xmas specials which were always big, brash and exciting and fun for all the family that you could very easily watch as a casual viewer. I'm glad Moffat's finally dropped the "Miserable Christmas" and continuations of storylines we got with Matt Smith. Much better for a bit of fun.

It was released Summer 15 so 2.5 years later is Winter 17.

I'd assume they'd have it.

Thanks for all the explanation

Maybe saving terrestrial premieres is part of the problem of Frozen being so low? If they delay Inside Out by another year after they have it, the interest will have waned. Shouldn't they show them as soon as possible to try and capture any remaining interest?

Not much to talk about. Soaps were low, I expected around a million higher for Frozen at least. Lion King did well though, but i have to sy the highlight rating for me is Home Alone getting 3m+ on Channel 4. Timeless film and still pulling in those figures. Interesting that Bear Hunt getting 1.1m for it's repeat, brings the 2 showings at around 5m!

Makes me wonder how much it would've gotten had it premiered on BBC1 in the 3:10pm slot instead, with no competition from ITV. TLK is something that deserved to be premiered on New Years Day at 6:30pm, much like Up did. 7-8m viewers to really boost the evening.

Given the sequel out only two weeks later then I'm expecting huge ratings similar to how Indiana Jones got over 7m a week before KOTS came out and also Channel 5 when they aired The DaVinci Code before Angels and Demons came out.

It's possible that the contracts with Disney prevents them from showing from a certain date.

Looking at the breakdown rzt posted, ITV was ahead of BBC One throughout most of the daytime:

- 06:00 to 09:20 - BBC One
- 09:20 to 14:55 - ITV
- 14:55 to 16:40 - BBC One
- 16:40 to 16:45 - ITV
- 16:45 to 20:15 - BBC One
=> swaps between BBC and ITV various times until 21:00 when...
- 21:00 to 23:50 - BBC One
- 23:50 to 01:20 - ITV

Which probably shows that ITV's schedule was fine - but only for the period when they ran films. As soon as they went to some form of original programming, they were consistently losing to the BBC.

Sky had Frozen until April (they had it for two Christmases). The BBC would have waited until Christmas, even if they had it from then.

Interestingly, Amazon Prime still has last night's Five premiere, Dallas Buyers Club.

What do we expect film-wise for the big days next year? Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Xmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day?

I'll predict all of these...
Die Hard
The Lion King (again)
Home Alone (Again)
Guardians of the Galaxy
Django Unchained
Ant-Man
The Mask
Furious 7 (could this get the BBC1 primetime slot?, or would it be too early?)
127 Hours
Lego Movie
Gone Girl
Anchorman 2

Christmas Day 2018- Deadpool

Marvelous for Home Alone! That film is essential Christmas Day viewing, it's dynamite.

Last year Home Alone 2 got 2.7m in that slot. Nice bit of counteractive scheduling. Viewers will watch when nothing appeals to them on the other side.

I even watched some of it, over at my cousin's we caught the traps at the end. Still laughing at the bit Kevin puts the spider on his face and he screams like hell

Interesting. What do you think ITV could have done differently? More entertainment programming and less soap, perhaps?

I'll predict all of these...
Die Hard
The Lion King (again)
Home Alone (Again)
Guardians of the Galaxy
Django Unchained
Ant-Man
The Mask
Furious 7 (could this get the BBC1 primetime slot?, or would it be too early?)
127 Hours
Lego Movie
Gone Girl
Anchorman 2

Christmas Day 2018- Deadpool”

Django Unchained already aired on Channel 5 and Furious 7 probably won't be on BBC One as Channel 4 has Universal films apart from DM franchise.

Apart from The Lego Movie, all the others probably will be on earlier in the year. I'm expecting Ab Fab the Movie will be BBC One although it does depend if BBC Films fully funded or not, likewise with David Brent Life on the Road.

He seems to have contradicted himself re Chatty Man. He said "I’ve gone as far as I can with Chatty Man" and then later said it hadn't been axed. I suppose they are keeping their options open. His Happy Hour show doesn't seem to be doing well so they might as well bring back Chatty Man. Perhaps put it on at 9 or 9.30 instead so it doesn't clash with Norton.

The rights were obtained for Awful Auntie but I don't think any attempt was made to actually film it. Can't find a trace of it on IMDb.

They'll be 'chocolate teapot' as all the big shows and films were available in the morning and any downloads won't be picked up by BARB.

I see although i would have thought the last dragonslayer would have been classed as a big show for Sky1 at least.

Interesting that Bear Hunt getting 1.1m for it's repeat, brings the 2 showings at around 5m! ”

Not really surprised about Frozen, Everyone is sick of the film by now apart from young girls. Lion King is more of a draw to me personally

David Walliams has been dropped from the 10pm slot on Holiday Tuesday and replaced with a rightful and far superior 2012 George Michael concert.
