Annual Christmas event.

Ethel & Ernest didn't do too badly. Hope it timeshifts through word of mouth, it was a real gem of a show.

Attempt

There are a lot of programmes and films associated with this time of year, wouldn't put it past ITV to try and do that with the Harry Potter films after how well they've been doing.

Well it would be better if they did that, instead of using them during Summer and decreasing their repeatability at Christmas.

If I were them, I would schedule the films similar to this year, but on a couple of days pull in forward to keep a couple of 9pm slots free for dramas/comedy.

The figures for Harry Potter just make tonight's scheduling more ridiculous than ever. Around 4m every night but now they're starting it late, splitting it around the news and having it finish after midnight!

I suspect they were more focussed on scheduling Christmas Eve and Day and lost sight of Thursday.

Personally I would have kept Emmerdale at 7pm, and Harry Potter again at 7.30pm -10.30pm.

The Amazing Spider Man 2 for NYD. It feels completely wasted scgeduled at an odd time.

It was just an innocent mistake, but anything for a little pop at me eh Aaron

Some people will return to see who wins on the final weekend but I don't see any way to persuade them that they should sit through the entire competition now.

There is little doubt that there will be a further decline in audience for the whole show and the live shows in particular next year and again the year after that both in actual numbers and audience share, and if more papers turn against it, treating it as laughing stock rather than event, as a result it could be become an extreme embarrassment for everyone concerned. I really don't think anyone stands to benefit from failing to take the opportunity to give it a rest for a year or two in 2017 and then re-assess the demand with a rather more refreshed talent pool.”

Even if Osman was hosting it, would you accept he personally wouldn't be the cause of ratings dropping?

It's just a voiceover nowadays isn't it? I can't believe I didn't even notice it wasn't Evan.

Class is getting it's network repeat on Mon 9th Jan, BBC1 10:45pm. Episode 2 after that at 11:30pm.

Potter is casting some magic this Christmas, I wander if anyone at itv fantasised it would do this well. Not starting it at 8:30 tonight was a real mistake but it won't matter that much as it's a 20something franchise.

For all of the good Harry is doing for the Voice, Ninja and Dance³, he's not helping much with the silver viewers who might like the Halcyon. My in-laws saw the long trailer for it yesterday and they liked the look of it, they knew nothing about it at all. They don't watch the soaps anymore so watch little itv, a good example of why itv needs shows like the Halcyon.

I sympathise with the BBC, I never thought Harry would spell so much trouble for them. They've spent real money on shows like last night's and tonight's and yet they'll still barely win the night.
The BBC though isn't as bothered about ratings and it certainly doesn't care if people watch via catch-up, I concur with those who think they'll add two million viewers for some shows.

It's funny seeing all this talk of what animation movie should be shown on a future Xmas Day and by whom; I've just flicked to the movie channels for something for the kids and up pops Zootopia. I've chosen Up instead. I do like that you can now start watching every movie from the beginning.
Soon you'll have the Watch From Start option on sky sports. Will people do this for a match? Probably not many.

I think he may have some limited impact. His inflated sense of self-importance may come across to some extent.

I can see a bad scoring night tonight - that Bronte thing is more suited to BBC2 / 4 instead of BBC1 - People don't need that posh shite on over Christmas / New Year.

At least Charlie Brooker's on tonight - the perfect way to end the year!

And the Cunk documentary after should be hilarious.

They watched the Queen's speech. They watched Downton. They watch Agatha Christie.

Maybe Gold will counter it with some Citizen Smith episodes.

I certainly think a whole two hours of it is asking a lot of viewers. I think if it didn't have Sally Wainwright as a writer (plus a brief cameo from James Norton), it certainly would have gone to BBC 2 or 4.

What a waste. The series itself wasn't that great, but it would have at least filled up some 8 or 9pm slots on BBC One or Two. Would have been better than repeats.

I don't really know how these new BBC Three shows being buried away in the dead slots can be justified.

It's just a bit too heavy for Christmas. Why not a comedy or a big British film? - James Norton looks like a woman I used to work with!

Wasn't there a promise to put BBC3 programmes on BBC1 and 2? It seems this is being wasted, and it would make a change instead of the repeats and cheap crap they put on. Also why not scrap Newsnight and move it to News 24? People are already choked with news as it is - time the schedules moved with the times unless it's an act of Parliament somewhere along the line.

Even though Newsnight isn't the force it once was, the BBC would be faced with the same backlash as 6music. It's a niche news show, which I suspect attracts a different audience to the mainstream news shows.

The BBC can't move forward in this way, because the public won't let them. They can't win.

Hi.
It's my first post.
Does anybody have the final ten show ratings for Deal On Tour.
Thanks

There's no way that it was getting a pre-watershed slot! And the scheduling needs no defending. It is niche viewing which is never going to command a primetime audience no matter where it's scheduled and the majority of those truly interested will already have seen it on iPlayer. That it's on network at all is merely to pay lip service to a BBC Trust imposition which nobody at BBC proper truly supports anyway. And, as you say, it's not actually that good (I gave up after the first episode). Can you even imagine the howls there'd be on this forum if it occupied a primetime slot?

She was a nice lady - been through the mill though. Rough start in life, many miscarriages, had three kids, failed marriages, lots of tragedy.
