3.96m. Tonight was the night that ITV scheduled last when they already had their coats on.
I've still got no idea what they were thinking. They might as well have just saved the Spider-Man premiere for another time, or even put it on New Year's Day if the M&W programme wasn't really ready.

The schedule they went with is awful. Spider-Man is at a really weird time away from the main days and it throws the rest of the night off, with Emmerdale in a random slot and Harry Potter on way too late and split around the news. Awful scheduling.

I notice the Radio Times website now reflects the new title. I wonder whether they'd have been better off just delaying it a little bit until it was actually ready rather than this last minute scramble. Miranda's involvement won't be mentioned in any of the listings magazines now. Although I'm not sure whether CGI-I got her into sketches would have really worked anyway.

I think it'll get around 3 million as the competition is very tough. If they had to show it this Christmas, it might have been worth swapping it with Maigret. M&W might have grabbed a reasonable casual audience on Christmas Day and I'm fairly sure Maigret would have done better on NYD, even against Sherlock.
BBC2 showed the Morecambe & Wise 1976 Christmas Show on Christmas Day at 5.40pm opposite Dr Who and Emmerdale and attracted a respectable 1.9m which I think was the channels highest audience of the day.

Well, we'll see tomorrow when the overnights come out. Maybe we'll discover it's another irritatingly sassy piece of Christmas scheduling from ITV.

Peter Cook and Dudley Moore: The Lost Sketches should take a piece out of the NYEve ratings. Rather amusingly BBC1 has a Pointless Celebrities on at that time. itv only has TMO.

In hindsight (again a wonderful thing) they should have kept The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on Christmas Eve leading into Birds of a Feather at 9pm with Grantchester on Boxing Day and Blankety Blank on Christmas Day. That way Harry Potter could have started at 7.30pm tonight following Emmerdale in it's usual slot.

The only issue that would cause is where to schedule Captain Phillips. Maybe from 9pm last Thursday instead of that Extraordinary Weddings rubbish with the news pushed back? It would have only been up against a Royle Family repeat.

I can't see The Amazing Spider Man 2 being any higher than 2.5m. In fact I wouldnt be suprised to see it under 2m, and Celeb Mastermind over 5m.

The thing is, I think many viewers were using this oppertunity to re-watch the Harry Potters. The late showing on tonights film might stall momentom tonight. Though is should pick up on Friday and Saturday with the last two films.

I predict:

EE 6.2m
In The Snow 4m
To Walk Invisible 3.9m

Spider Man 2.1m
Emmerdale 4.4m
Harry Potter 3.2m

Taboo on BBC1 looks excellent. The trailer makes it look like a film. I can see this one doing well, much like The Night Manager.

This is where ITV need to diversify. Though White Dragon is a step in the right direction.

What do you mean by diversify? Beowulf and Jekyll were good ideas poorly executed. They also have more original dramas on Encore, I still don't get that.

Agree with you about Taboo, I've now seen its Fox/FX trailers 273 times and I do like the look of it. As for the rating predictions...

EE - 6.1m
In the Snow - 4.2m
Brontës - 4.6m

Spidey - 2.3m
Emmerdale - 4.5m
Harry - 3.1m

Missed them all thanks to a most wonderful day of Dartsmas.

Did any regulars catch Charlie Brooker 2016 Wipe tonight on TWO? Absolutely ace was this review. Much more polished than previous years and loads to cram in...
Ten out of ten from me. Best programme on over Christmas by a country mile.

I hope Weekly Wipe returns in 2017.

I agree. I thought it was a very enjoyable show. Hope it manages to do well up against the competition.

Thanks rzt and Haassan. (btw it was Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince)

Poor rating for Spider Man, but not unexpected. I think Emmerdale was lucky to get that, and is very close to EE despite the latter having some pretty easy competition.

Harry Potter did as well as it coud. Though the late night showing I imagine pissed off a few being wrapped around the news. Though that share is pretty impressive.

I have a feeling EE will be similar to last night. Its Friday.

EE is now down over 1m YOY. Its going to have to pull it out the bag to reach 7m+ on NYD.

Celeb Mastermid up over 1m from its last episode aay from Emmerdale. My prediction of 5m wasn't far off. As was my 4m for Life in the Snow

That makes EE rating even more poor when you consider the dire Celeb Mastermind is less than 600k away.

Not bad for the HP film, considering the very late finish. Very good for Emmerdale in its totally random slot.

Channel 5 did extremely well with the Adele story.

EastEnders is not doing well at all, even though it was a pretty good episode. I doubt it'll get anywhere near 7m on NYD.

I do like these sort of shows and with it being Adele it was always going to rate well. A nice figure for C5 over this festive period.
