Pretty much most of the horse racing they are showing is on a Saturday so I can't see a shift anywhere else.

It's interesting that we've had no news about how The Grand Tour is doing on Amazon ratings wise. Usually we would get something from the tabloids to say if it's generally doing okay or not so good.
At the same time, advertising for the GT seems to have been stepped up and the whole Richard Hammond straight men and ice cream row generated a lot of extra publicity for the show... |

Saturday January 7 schedules:
BBC 1 1720 News 1740 Celebrity Mastermind 1810 Pointless Celebrities 1900 Let It Shine 2025 Casualty 2115 Taboo 2210 News ITV: 1745 News 1800 You've Been Framed 1900 Ninja Warrior UK 2000 The Voice UK 2125 Through the Keyhole 2230 News So as predicted, the BBC is now starting to overlap Let It Shine and TVUK. I knew it would happen if ITV scheduled it at 8pm. Now if the latter is a success, it'll be the sitauation with TXF and SCD all over again. And an 1hr of YBF?? With the BBc starting their night off early with Celeb Mastermind at 5.40pm, BBC1 will start soaking up the older viewers from news onwards. |

Thought some of you might be interested, YouGov have ran a poll on people's favourite reality TV shows of 2016.
Bake Off 23%, I'm a Celebrity 20%, Strictly 20%, The Apprentice 11%, Gogglebox 11%, Big Brother 3%, The X Factor 3%. Either they didn't poll the others or they didn't register much support. They also polled overall, which Planet Earth II easily topped as well as David Attenborough getting almost double the support of Ant & Dec to top favourite personality. https://yougov.co.uk/news/2016/12/29...ins-best-2016/ |

Has there been any specific advertising for GT? It's slightly featured in the Fire Stick ad but the other Amazon ads I've seen are for Prime next day delivery and Echo (got two, love 'em). |

To Walk Invisible was conceived as a series and turned into a one off and that hurt it badly imo. It felt like watching the middle episode only of a three part story. What we saw of that middle section was good, as you would expect from the author. But the set up was confusing and bitty - no real sense of the dramatic family reasons that drove their father out of Ireland or to change the family name to Bronte to be accepted in English society and no real set up of their sisters both dying young. Then the ending fizzling out with all the drama of their deaths in rapid succession after their brothers death and the lost books that never got written - all effectively relegated to a series of on screen captions in the closing seconds.
It had great potential as this is a moving powerful story and what we got showed the missed opportunity but for me it lost most of the impetus by not being the short run series it was clearly conceived to be, |

Nothing on Netflix's The Crown, either.

The new Radio Times out today says that The Voice format has been tweaked by ITV.
More live shows than on the BBC (five this year) and a 'twist' that the judges will not get to see the act at all unless they press their buzzer to choose them. |

I don't think Netflix have ever released viewing figures for anything. I guess it's ultimately commercially sensitive and they've no advertisers to have to justify their reach to, so why would they?
I'm pretty sure I've seen a few billboards for Grand Tour. |

That said, given the scale of this programme, you might expect some kind of PR release from them - even if very vague ("most popular original series in X markets. etc). Maybe at the end of the run? |

Amazon and Netflix always play their cards exceptionally close to the chest about their numbers. They have a huge trove of data but seem to think it bad business sense to share too much. It's interesting, because especially when it comes to secondary rights, do the sellers really know the value of what they're selling? And when it comes to original series, does anyone really find out if something flops?
That said, given the scale of this programme, you might expect some kind of PR release from them - even if very vague ("most popular original series in X markets. etc). Maybe at the end of the run? Normally with Netflix, if something doesn't return for a second series then it's generally considered to have flopped. I think Netflix tries to find series' that can easily be recommissioned, so something not returning is telling. |

The twist was announced when filming started, and its quite honestly for the best. The BBC format was far too padded out when the judges were saying why they didn't turn.
Surprised they're doing more live shows as that's where the ratings have really fallen in the past. The auditions have always done well, then the middle stages have gone down a bit but still good, then the live shows fall further. It sounds like they aren't doing the knockout round this year, with the 2 extra live shows replacing the 2 knockout shows. Perhaps they'll do something similar to the playoff format on the US version? Whatever they do I'm interested to see how they schedule it, as with Saturday Night Takeaway back around the time the auditions end and Dance Dance Dance only a 6 week run you'd think The Voice will have some sort of presence on Sundays, as otherwise they'll have some very late finishes on Saturdays. |

I suspect The Grand Tour is a loss leader for Amazon but they'll more than make up for it by the increase in Prime Memberships, Fire TV etc

Yes I knew about the twist and agree it's for the best. The judges saying why they didn't turn went on forever and most of the time it was them saying how they wish they'd turned as they felt embarrassed. It was dead air and with them probably having less air time to play with on ITV because of the adverts, it makes sense to change it.

It basically boils down to "I would've turned if I knew what you looked like!" Classic.

The New Year is upon us so it's time for a brand new season of the DS Ratings Prediction Game, now in it's 37th season!
Unlike the bumper schedules surrounding Christmas and New Year, this is a more sedate affair with only 20 programmes listed but that's not to mean the challenge is any less, with the switching Voice UK, new hope Let It Shine and drama The Halcyon joining returnees such as Silent Witness, Death in Paradise, Unforgotten and Endeavour in the line up. So why not put your guesses on the line and have a go? Whether you're a regular player, lapsed competitor looking for a return or a DSRPG virgin, everyone is welcome! Simply click HERE, left click 'Quotre', delete the 'Quote' marks and get predicting! Thank you to everyone who takes part.

Yup! While they were at it they should have put in a button where if the judge turns around and doesn't like the look of them they can press it and the chair keeps turning back away from them again.
![]() ![]() I'm not sure where the blind auditions will end up. Surely the first episode will get around 7m at least out of curiosity, but where it goes next remains to be seen. Anyone would be better than Paloma Faith! |
