Just in time for Bake-Off heavens opened here in London (and Central and SE England according to www.raintoday.co.uk).

Literally started raining here at 7.59pm...

What a stroke of luck for the Beeb after one of the hottest days of the year!

That'll add a million or two.

In heartland Bake-off country it appears to be raining according to the website. Unless their radar is screwy.

Tomorrow's ratings will be interesting. Think I've well under-predicted on DSRPG.

Very thick black cloud here in Newbury, but as yet, no rain or Thunder - again! Why does Newbury always miss out on a decent thunderstorm? Newbury is where Bake Off is filmed by the way.

Hope you get a storm soon to clear the air Wizzy!

Chronicles of Nadia btw is a bit boring... I'm watching Riddick on Film4. I would have thought the Beeb might have scheduled One Of Us tonight straight on after at 9pm given it's supposed to be a thriller. Got to admit am missing my weekly dose of post Bake-Off Doctor Foster

It'd be nice if we could get out of the mindset that Bake-Off appeals to a certain type of person. It doesn't, it's popular with a huge range of people, that's why it gets ratings of 10m+, same as Strictly.

Yeah that''s true. Just pointing out if weather is bad or good in the South East it tends to have a bigger impact than other areas of the UK purely down to more bums on sofas.

It would be interesting to see the regional breakdown though - shame we don't get to see those kind of figures. I'm sure I used to see these on Oracle Teletext many moons back!

They are available but they're pretty expensive. In 5 years of working in media only two shows I worked on bothered to pay for it, it's just not worth it most of the time.

ITV are advertising 'Victoria' on the Fox News Channel (UK Stream obviously).

That's interesting to hear Nakatomi. I guess though advertisers rather than programme makers are more likely to review that kind of TVR data for their TV spot planning.

And I just remembered we definitely did get to see this info on Oracle - all free of charge mind you! I recall their TV Plus section in the the late 80's showed regional breakdowns. As an example, a programme like "Howards Way" had stonking share figures in the old TVS area but did relatively poorly in Granada.

Doesn't surprise me, seems a lot of the media industry stuff is out to charge now. I'm fairly sure Syco is one of the production companies that regularly pays for access to the detailed demographics. And so does whoever makes Sunday Brunch, bizarrely.

It's huge with a lot of age groups. When it started out i bet they didn't expect such a wide demo. Every single person I know (in their 20s) watch the show....and i know a lot of people...and those people who have different tastes still love Bake Off

I don't even know why it's so addictive, it just is

It's something I love but I can't pinpoint why. It's the only programme that our entire group text (a mixture of mid-20s as well as older colleagues and relatives) is watching live tonight. Even Game of Thrones, which is popular in our group, doesn't get everyone watching at the same time and commenting on it.

Wow. I didn't expect it to open up over a million more than last year, especially with the really nice weather.

Wow - impressive.

I wonder if this will be bittersweet for the BBC? It's gone all suspiciously quiet on the negotiations front.

Amazing start for Bake Off. It just gets bigger and bigger. I wonder just how big it'll get this series?

Nadiya got what I predicted (although I thought Bake Off would be a bit lower). Not bad at all but it might drop next week as apparently it was boring.

The last thing I saw was from June and Paul and Mary said they wouldnt continue with GBBO if it left the BBC. I assume Mel and Sue wouldnt either. So technically the GBBO we have now would end anyway if it was stolen from the beeb.
