Seems like there just wasn't many people around all evening.

The wrestling did ok for ITV, not sure if its enough for more to be commissioned.
1.25M 7.3% = OK

Put away the sherry

Ouch indeed. Same goes for Take Me Out. Clearly the wrong night to start it but that is an appalling rating. Wonder if it'll be back to normal next week or not?

Dreadful for World of Sport Wrestling. A 7% share is nowhere near good enough for ITV and it shouldn't return on the main channel. Pretty poor for Peter Pan Goes Wrong too, if it couldn't capitalise on such weak competition it clearly wasn't going to work anywhere.

BBC1 had a solid night. The fireworks/concert look slightly lower than previous years, but still a very big audience. Harry Potter did OK again for ITV but the rest of the night was a disaster.

I doubt it's much higher than what ITV would get in that slot, and it's something new - so yeah ok, but by no means good. It had a lot of promotion as well.

The NYE overnights seem ok really.

The BBC1 rebrand however is not. Worst idents in the history of TV on this evidence:

ITV made some ridiculous schedule decisions last night. A young skewing evening, aimed at young people who were all out last night...

It's hardly a surprise when these rubbish ratings turn up. 2m for NWUK is awful when it's usually a 4m show.

I thought it might just work, catching people before they went out. Obviously not.

The less effort a broadcaster puts in over Christmas the happier they'll be with the ratings, seemingly. I'm sure BBC One will be the exception tonight, though. I'm pretty sure Ninja Warrior will bounce back next week - it had an awful figure for it's second episode last year too. Take Me Out was a meaningless celebrity special and I think I would have swapped that and Ninja Warrior around. BBC One's 'nothing out of the ordinary is happening' schedule up to 10.25pm worked a treat.

It's not a rebrand. It's a refresh. And, they are what they are!

BBC1 are promoting the hell out of Let It Shine. I've seen more trailers for this than Sherlock.

Oh dear, just wait until you see the old men in the sea one. I'd be hard pressed to think of any worse ident on any channel.

A spot of press speculation too concerning the format also helps - Simon Cowell consulting lawyers over Let it Shine

No seen the new indents as yet but I wonder if anyone on here said the hippos were a good idea. I suspect they were the worst ever then.
It's like anything, you just get used to them.

I think he should sue wider, mainly because I don't know what the BBC are doing with all these stupid talent contests. Let It Shine is acceptable, it's a bit different and a one-off, I'll watch it. But there has been talk of many such series in the pipeline and that just isn't on. They damaged the genre once before via oversaturation and here they are again.

I do like that article describing Gary Barlow's £57m as "mere".

To be fair ITV had a similar version, which was terrible. BBC One seem to have copied the worst bits about ITV's presentation.

Although the ITV idents aren't that imaginative, the colour picking works nicely and there are now over 1000 idents, meaning they don't get boring.

Not a bad night for Channel 4 considering the dire night its commercial neighbour had.
Not so good for C5 but World's Strongest Man seemed to do OK.

World Wrestling Entertainment offered £16,000 'development' contracts to almost every name British wrestler not to sign contracts with ITV.

There was certainly an expectation there'd be more.

Lion King back on Sky today. It's one of the Top Picks along with the Batman V Superman premiere.

Watched the new Jungle Book last night. Really enjoyed it. The CGI mixed with live acting was stunning. Quite violent though, can't see it getting an afternoon slot Christmas 2018.

Alan Carr is not the ratings disaster he's made out to be, his shows do quite well for Channel 4.

Actually "Let it Shine" is a pretty good name for a more general talent competition.....................
