A bit random but I would put money on Taboo flopping badly next Saturday. It doesn't look like it has mass appeal at all. It reminds me, actually, of when they tried out The Muskateers on a Saturday night sandwiched between the Lottery and Casualty - and that ended badly.

Another bizarre scheduling decision on now the worst presented television channel.

It was too niche and middle class - not the sort of thing for a Saturday night on BBC1. The fact they are repeating, is the BBC *THAT* hard up?

Taboo does scream flop - I think we're having period drama overload lately. Expect it to be moved to a graveyard slot in the week to end it's life.

They definitely include +1. That doesn't look too bad for Harry Potter and at least Ninja Warrior increased throughout the hour. The wrestling looks to have stayed at the same level throughout.

The New Year is upon us so it's time for a brand new season of the DS Ratings Prediction Game, now in it's 37th season!

Unlike the bumper schedules surrounding Christmas and New Year, this is a more sedate affair with only 20 programmes listed but that's not to mean the challenge is any less, with the switching Voice UK, new hope Let It Shine and drama The Halcyon joining returnees such as Silent Witness, Death in Paradise, Unforgotten and Endeavour in the line up.

So why not put your guesses on the line and have a go? Whether you're a regular player, lapsed competitor looking for a return or a DSRPG virgin, everyone is welcome! Simply click
HERE, left click 'Quotre', delete the 'Quote' marks and get predicting!

Thank you to everyone who takes part.

I noticed that Antiques Roadshow is back next week - Please BBC retire this crap after 40 years. We're not all old and senile and worship Useless May.

Good spot!

Just shows how terribly WOSW did. I certainly can't see them doing any more on the main channel.

They clearly think we are based on those appalling excuses for idents being premiered today. They belong on the SAGA channel, if there ever was one.

How will they get back on track I wonder? Looks a tricky one to resolve looking at the timings later on.

Mind you, their schedule from 8pm onwards is dreadful anyway. Including a docudrama starting at 9:45 which is not in line with any of the other major channels.

No, just bullies with entitlement issues apparently.

Why should they retire it? Just because you think they should? As it is it gets a solid audience for them so I see no reason why they would or should.

I just think it's had it's day and it's too posh and older skewing. Retire it to BBC2 or BBC4.

Exactly. Enough people like it to justify showing it.
Those that don't have plenty of choice elsewhere.

But the point is, it still has an audience and although you don't like it, plenty of people still do. Hence it still gets solid ratings. Why should they retire it just because you want them to?

Really? It got more than half of Ninja and TMO despite being up against Liverpool v Man City and other football.

Exactly. I've seen it on many threads on this forum. I genuinely don't get the "I don't like this programme so it should be axed" mentality.

But you have a problem with shows that you perceive to be 'posh' and 'middle class'.

Good lord, what were they thinking?! Well that's not a good start to 2017..

They'd have been better just bringing back the balloon, much like how BBC2 has reinstated the 2's. At least they'd save money and have a strong brand.

"Oneness" Ok they've clearly been sniffing something dodgy in the broom cupboard over Christmas....

I just think these sort of shows alienate ordinary people and we need to have a wide mix. There is BBC2 and BBC4 for that crap. BBC1 should be an entertainment channel - no place for people selling Antiques.

Well, it's entertainment enough for some people. I think there is a wide mix. On a Sunday you've got a nature programme (Countryfile), a comedy (Still Open All Hours), an antiques show (Antiques Roadshow) and a detective drama (Sherlock). What more do you want?

You are just digging a bigger hole for yourself.
What does ordinary people mean ?

Ninja and TMO did appallingly so getting more than half of their audience is hardly an achievement. It dragged down Ninja too looking at the breakdown. A 7% share for the main channel is terrible. Yes it was against football but if they did more it would always be against football so it still needed to do better.

They might do more on ITV4 or ITV Box Office, but they certainly shouldn't on the main channel.

Cricket on Five finished half an hour later than billed. 101 Dalmatians was replaced by a repeat of Secrets Life of Pets.

It's amateur hour though because the EPG has still not updated and there is no live continuity announcements during the day so it was just a basic "change to the advertised schedule..." one they had pre-recorded, with no info on timings.

The cognitive dissonance required to suggest that we would get a wider mix if we axed some of the ingredients boggles the imagination. And 'alienates ordinary people'? What are you talking about? My very ordinary parents (a shop assistant and a machinist in their working lives still living in the council house they first rented over 50 years ago) adore it as they did its predecessors like Going For A Song. There are collectors and enthusiasts in all walks of life and the vast majority of items on the show are perfectly affordable ranging from a fiver to a couple of hundred pounds.
