Charlotte Moore wasn't taking questions on Bake Off at her Meet The Controller session yesterday. So who knows where negotiations are at the moment?

What it does show is that viewers are out there for Big shows/events. Channels shouldn't think 4/5m is the best they can get in some time slots.

I imagine something will have to be announced before too soon. If it stays on the BBC - and the protracted silence suggests to me that that is by no means definite - they'll have to start inviting applications for the 2017 series before too long. There won't be Bake Off again until 2018 otherwise, of course.

Any ratings for the cricket on Sky Sports Mix launch day yesterday?

Fantastic for Bake-Off and very well deserved.

Here's hoping we see some more big ratings. It'll be interesting to see how Cold Feet does on the Monday 5th.

Cold Feet should be big, all it faces is Crimewatch on BBC1. Ripper Street would be getting a similar eating around 3m if it were on BBC1.

Saturday and Sunday are big days. Anyone brave enough to predict what will happen there?

Not bad at all for C5 and C4.

I see LLF got 3.23m, not bad either.

Sounds interesting, a bit like the "Up" series on ITV or that one the BBC did with Robert Winston.

GBBO Series Openers:

2011 - 2.79m (12.7%)
2012 - 3.46m (16.7%)
2013 - 5.60m (26.4%)
2014 - 7.18m (34.6%)
2015 - 9.30m (43.0%)
2016 - 10.44m (47.5%)”

Rating and share rising every single year, looks like this series will be the biggest yet.

Quote:
“"Newell also revealed that she is on the lookout for an agenda-setting TV event to accompany Love Island next year.

She said ITV2 was “actively seeking” a stripped series that would touch on the themes of relationships, gossip, sex and friendship, potentially with a competitive element.

It was imperative, she said, that the event was broadcast in real time.

“We have to be incredibly relevant to keep this audience returning so real time is definitely an element we want to see. I think Love Island has upped the ante.”

She also put out a call for more entertainment and comedy pitches and revealed finding a third flagship show to sit alongside The Only Way Is Essex and The Real Housewives of Cheshire on ITVBe was a priority.

“We want to talk about celebrity access, relationships, weddings, it could even be property,” she said. “We’ve got money and we are actively looking for a third title.””

Looks like ITV2 are really trying to build around Love Island for the next series, which is always good to see. It's nice to see a channel that isn't complacent with one hit show but is actually trying to launch new content and create new hits.

The fact it launched yet again higher than the year before, wow... last year ended with 13.4m overnight and had a 15.06m official. Surely it cannot beat that

If it does, I'll be speechless. Wondering, was that 15.06m in the Top 20 of the 21st Century?

It's very early I know, but if it rises throughout like most series, as it launched higher, do we reckon a 14m overnight and a 16m official? Surely not

Yes

BBC1

Countryfile 6.1m
Antiques Roadshow 5m
Are You Being Served? 6m
Porridge 5.4m

ITV inc+1

Ellie Simmonds 2.3m
The X Factor 7m
Victoria 5.8m

BBC have the upper hand appealing to the oder viewers from Counryfile at 7pm - those viewers are likely to stay for the comedies. I expect based on the ratings, the BBC will be commissioning a series from all of the revivals because all will have a good launch figure, whether they are poor or not.

Victoria might gain a younger audience than usual following on from TXF and given Jenna Coleman being the main star.

I think Victoria should hold most of its audience on the Monday, but I cannot see a DA sized opening rating. The BBC comedies will defalate its overnight, but it shoulf consolidate well. And as its Bank holiday on Monday the +1 should be bigger than usual, where BBC1 win the head to head.

Applications for the 2016 series of Bake Off opened in early October 2015, with a closing date of January 10th 2016.

re: bake off - I must admit I never watched any until last year, right at the end, I think the last 2 weeks and became a convert. As another poster said, it's quite pleasant and drama free from the contestants and it's about the baking. Unlike for example The Apprentice, which I also watch but mainly for the drama and the sheer ridiculousness of it all!

I have a sneaking feeling Victoria is not going to be the success ITV are looking for, certainly won't be another Downton.Could be famous last words of course.......

I agree. It's a shame about Apprentice as its opening series on BBC2 didn't play to the ridiculous. It had its moments but it was genuine stuff. Since move to BBC1 they've tried to recreate via casting.

Great for bake off! Probably would've been over 11 million if the weather wasn't so hot

Both Channel 4 and 5 held up well against Bake Off and both did decently at 9pm. Suspects is a goner after this series,

Must be cheap to make.

It's like Come Outside for primetime.

When do they plan on showing the other episodes after tonight?

Format doesn't suit Giles Coren at all.

It gets dark between 8 and 9. Temperature won't have worsened the number at all, in fact it getting dark may have inflated figures.

Sensational start for Bake Off. I have to be honest - I didn't expect it to be up year-on-year, and certainly not to that extent. But it ties into my theory about the BBC being on a real high post-Olympics.

That's my sneaking suspicion, too. On paper, at least: based on what we've seen, I don't think Coleman has the technique or star power of a lead actor, and the script is by someone who's never written a primetime drama series before (or indeed appears to have any screenplay credits).

Then again, I could be pleasantly surprised and wrong on both those counts …!
