the nyd episode of ee created a big stir online so the rating increase would have stemmed from curiosity from people who perhaps watched Ronnie and roxy in their early years to see what had happened.
unfortunately whilst it had the chance to win back some of these viewers with a powerful episode, it was underwhelming and I imagine these additional viewers will not be sticking around |

Wow at that EE boost and other soap increased, you can tell people are finally home in front of the TV after the holidays.
Also, typical... a food show being very high on the first days of January Food Unwrapped going over 2m excl +1! People all wanting to go on a diet I assume ![]() When is Eat Well for Less coming back? Because that'll be at 5m at this point! |

Emmerdale: 6.80m (31.4%) Corrie 7.30: 7.49m (33.0%) Corrie 8.30: 7.02m (29.7%) The Halycon: 4.65m (19.9%) Inc +1 Good night for soaps, they do tend to get a bit of a boost after the holidays Tbh I think that is a poor rating for Coronation Street. It should be over 8m cobsidering EE is over 7.5m. Emmerdale should also be pushing 7m. |

Finally some ratings cheer for EE.
Although I'm even more baffled now that these casuals missed the main event but tuned in to the aftermath. It looks like all of the soaps had a good night. ![]() Quote:

Silent Witness returned for its 20th season on BBC1 at 9pm, watched by slot-winning 5.7m/24.5% @EmiliaFox http://www.overnights.tv Overnights.tv @overnightstv 1m1 minute ago ITV launched new period drama #TheHalcyon at 9pm, where it made a decent start with 4.7m/19.9% @LeftBankPics http://www.overnights.tv That's a very decent start for The Halcyon, Silent Witness will be higher tonight. Hopefully it's a sign that two dramas can perform well against each other, like Poldark and Victoria. It's going to be like Poldark and Victoria. |

It's not unusual for EE to muster 7m+ after timeshift. Understandably people wanted to watch it live and what was a big soap night. EE has done what Emmerdale did with its big car crash episode.
Well H was right about Halcyon coming within 1m of SW. The big thing for it is that the public and press reaction seems to be good which should mean it'll consolidate well. SW will increase that lead thanks to the Tuesday effect - 6m and 4.4m still seems a realistic overnight with 7m and 5.5m being the 7day score. It's going to be like Poldark and Victoria. I think last night both will consolidate over 6m: SW - 7.8/9m and TH - 7m |

Did I read that EE filmed several different exits for R&R? If so then as it would seem the aftermath ep had few references to how they died which took the edge off it a bit. Good rating nonetheless.

Silent Witness is only on today, not The Halycon. The former will be over 6m tonight with sub 2m on ITV.
I think last night both will consolidate over 6m: SW - 7.8/9m and TH - 7m I can't imagine SW will be affected by the fall in EE's rating next Monday. |

EastEnders
So erratic! That figure would suggest to me the NYD episode will get a huge time shift, otherwise it makes no sense for people to tune in after the main event took place. Even more random considering it's higher than every overnight last year apart from New Year's Day's 8pm episode. I'm not convinced it will sustain a boost longer than a week or so, but it's nice to see EastEnders top soap with a healthy rating for once. |

Great rating for EastEnders. Sunday will probably timeshift twice as much like Christmas Day did. More viewers watched live last night.
Good start for both dramas. I expected the ITV soaps to be a bit higher. Soaps on same day last year. http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coro...14-month-high/ |

6 BBC One - 05:45 PM Pointless 4.289m 25% As for last night, that's a much healthier figure for EastEnders after the disappointing New Years Day number - they'll be very happy with that I presume. Silent Witness got off to a good start. It is a bit lower than last year's launch but that'd be largely down to facing another drama. The ITV soaps did a bit better compared to the last few weeks too although they seem to have gotten a New Year boost as well. The Halcyon had a decent start but it hasn't got far to fall. Channel 4 and BBC Two had a solid night. Thanks to rzt - a five-minute breakdown for The Halcyon: Code:
21:00 - 5.04m (21.1%) 21:05 - 4.97m (20.7%) 21:10 - 4.95m (21.0%) 21:15 - 4.36m (18.7%) <- commercial 21:20 - 4.77m (20.2%) 21:25 - 4.77m (20.2%) 21:30 - 4.24m (18.5%) <- commercial 21:35 - 4.67m (19.8%) 21:40 - 4.39m (19.0%) <- commercial 21:45 - 4.47m (19.5%) 21:50 - 4.57m (19.9%) 21:55 - 4.58m (20.3%) |

Logic says you're only going to bleed a few viewers, it is unlikely people will start watching half way through. It'd be interesting to see how an established drama like SW does. As long as it can keep overnighting above 4m it should be fine. After all, most sensible people were watching the darts last night! I hope that got 1m between SS1 and SSDarts. |

If there were multiple endings where one was chosen at the last minute, that means everything filmed between the time the ending was filmed and the air date (what, 3 months worth?!) can't reference any of the "endings" specifically, making an aftermath impossible. Not to mention the stuff written (but not filmed) AFTER those yet-to-air episodes - which either again are vague as you like (meaning we are now probably talking 6 months material in total of filmed/written material) or the writers have written endless chains of scenarios to go with - not likely surely? ![]() Surely this could only ever work if a show was to END and we were talking about a final scene. I understand soaps have filmed various scenarios for a bit of fun for the fans and to put people off the scent of what will air up to the last moment. I remember Emmerdale did this 10 years ago showing about 8 people killing Tom King! But let's not pretend for one second that every time a soap does this that they don't know which ending they're going for. They ALWAYS know. |
