Thanks for that. If you can, could you ask around to find out the biggest official ratings for the daytime editions of The Chase and Pointless?

Re The Voice, it's never been a thread favourite. Go back to the thread archive from around May 2012 and after its first live shows when the ratings dropped by huge amounts. And also from 2013. People slated it.
I won't be watching it. Sick of these "singing shows" now, for me they all merge into one. Will see what Let it Shine is like, the amount of trailers I've seen for it is crazy. The prospect Let it Shine doesn't exactly enthrall me either. To be fair it looks better than I originally thought it would. I like the gimmick with the scoring and stars they're doing at the auditions, I think that might be fun. But it's Take That and Gary Barlow, neither of which I have much time for. I was never a big fan of the musical searches and this looks similar. Again I'm not sold on the panel, or the hosts. I don't think Graham Norton particularly suits talent shows and Mel Giedroyc would turn up at the opening of a packet of crisps so her presence isn't a big selling point either. Also the trailer is dreadful (which obviously doesn't mean the show will be but it doesn't help when they're trying to sell it). Again I'll give it a go and the scoring gimmick might keep me around for a bit but my hopes aren't high. Quote:
The Voice is on ITV now and is BBC1's Saturday night competition. Of course BBC1 want to beat The Voice. Not sure it will though.
The main difference between that night and 2012 and this Saturday though is that this time the audiences will be several million lower, I imagine! |

Daytime series The Sheriffs Are Coming starts tonight on BBC1 at 8pm. Despite being pretty dull, I bet its over 4m.

It was the premiere of Elvis - the Movie from 7.25 (New Year's Eve).
Carry on Laughing was at 7.30, between Give Us a Clue at 7.0 and London Night Out at 8.0. |

Let it Shine has had extensive promotion with the trailer, magazine covers, Facebook adverts, a launch event, interviews, a special BBC One sting, etc.
If it fails to deliver it certainly won't be through lack of promotion. |

There was a golden period of Summer Wine when Brian Wilde joined and replaced Michael Bates who died. The chemistry between Wilde, Peter Sallis and Bill Owen was great as were the episodes during this time. When Wilde left a second time it just wasn't the same and got worse when Owen died and Sallis got so old that health & safety just had jumped him sitting around.

Exactly, The Voice has never really been a thread favourite. It perhaps was in its first few weeks back in 2012 but it soon faded away. It's never been a favourite of mine either. I will watch the first episode out of curiosity as I have done most years but I don't expect to suddenly love it. I expect the editing will be a bit snappier on ITV as they've got less time to play with, the set looks good and I like the twist with the chairs not turning. But it's still the same show and I still have the same issues with it regardless of the channel it airs on. Also I'm not sold on the panel.
Again I'll give it a go and the scoring gimmick might keep me around for a bit but my hopes aren't high. I think The Voice will have the higher average but Let it Shine will win the overlap. It's like when The Voice first launched all over again. A new talent show at 7pm on BBC1 up against one launching its sixth series on ITV at 8pm. Perhaps a little surprised that ITV have repeated that same scheduling again with the small overlap - it won't help The Voice's PR but will maximise their numbers across the night which is obviously the overall aim. The main difference between that night and 2012 and this Saturday though is that this time the audiences will be several million lower, I imagine! |

The Voice is more established and has more variety for singers compared to Let It Shine as the latter I'd just looking for male singers. I expect The Voice to win and Let It Shine not to bomb. I think Taboo is the real wildcard on Saturday.

But Let It Shine is a singing show for the most part.
I've seen a lot of magazines really bigging up Let It Shine over TVUK. The latter used to feature quite heavily on the front covers when it started. Now its been pushed aside. I think TVUK will launch around 6.5m. In there will be a mixture of viewers who will watch it regardless and those who are inquisitive. The loss of viewers who wach weekends on BBC1 for most of the year will be back on BBC1 with Let It Shine. Plus whilst I was watching the BBC1 junctions closely over the new year period hoping that the national broadcaster wasn't really using just an exercise class and man boobs in the sea as their entire presentation package, I did note that Let it shine seemed to be advertised in literally every junction, they have also been trailing on the radio, from Radio 1 to Radio Leeds. Due to all this promotion, and the locked in older viewer, I think Let it Shine will at least launch a good million or two above The Voice. |

My Dad surprised me the other day by saying Taboo looks "magnificent" in his eyes and he's really looking forward to it. Certainly a risk putting something like that on a Saturday night and I reckon it could do very well. It'll timeshift a lot.
I have a feeling it might launch very well a bit like The Musketeers did and then live and die by the fact if its any good or not. I think its good for the BBC to be going for big co-productions like this as well so I hope it does well to encourage it. |

ITV have just ran a trailer for The Good Karma Hotel. Coming soon.
Wednesdays perhaps. (Assuming Vera replaces Endeavour on Sunday nights seeing as she performed so well against Midwife last year.) |

I'll wager it's still watched by more people than such critically acclaimed sitcoms as Rev and Peep Show.

Lip Sync Battle actually has a pretty good line-up, certainly one of Channel 5's better shows.

A bit of a pity if so as I did think Good Karma looked like a good Sunday night drama, but it does tie in with Lygo wanting to inject more fun and lightness into the midweek schedule. Something like it could go down quite well midweek in the Winter. I presume if it does go there it'll be paired with Little Big Shots to create a lighter Wednesday night schedule. Did it look any good? |

BBC1 is the more watched channel.
Pointless is way stronger than YBF. Casualty is probably stronger than Ninja. LiS is new and has curiosity value. LiS is on first. LiS has been promoted to the moon, even more than TVUK. Keyhole isn't an attraction. LiS should touch 7m and win by around 1m. LiS will also get a far better reception than TVUK meaning that the gap could grow a bit in week 2. However, I've a feeling that LIS will age rapidly and the novelty will quickly evaporate. By the end they'll both be in trouble. |

We get demos for age, sex, social status across a dozen or so regions, but ethnicity too, with such a small panel? What methods do TV companies use to get AI scores? |

If they're running trailers for it already then yes it could well be Wednesdays. Like you I think Vera will get Sundays given the good ratings last year (plus they wouldn't need to find anything for 8pm).

All the TV mags including the Radio Times, excluding those that have soaps on the front all year round, have gone with a Let it Shine cover.
I'm surprised in a way as it doesn't seem like something that could easily come back again next year, although if it's a big hit I'm sure they'll find a way. What sort of numbers are you expecting for each? I'll be a bit surprised if Let it Shine wins in the averages. I'm thinking 5.5m for Let it Shine and 6-6.5m for The Voice. But we'll see, stranger things have happened. |

#celebritybigbrother launched on C5 to audience of 2.3m/11.9% - down 500k on 2016 launch @endemolshine @CalumBest http://www.overnights.tv I only started watching CBB last year again (I gave up on the whole thing when it moved to Channel 5). I did really enjoy last January's series. It was a fantastic. I then missed the normal series and watched the August series with Bear. By comparison to the January 2016 series, that series was an absolute disaster! I wasn't particularly looking forward to CBB last night but thought I'd give it a chance. Not the best launch and tonight's show was uneventful too. I think this series could seriously struggle. The idea of All Stars vs New Stars doesn't work IMO either. Oh and that new title sequence is dreadful. Quote:
