Just caught up on my BBC Christmas festive favourites.
Thoroughly enjoyed Strictly Len Goodman (I thoroughly recommend it if you haven't seen it), Strictly Christmas Special (great ratings for it too), The Joy Of Abba, Darcey At The BBC, Call The Midwife, EastEnders (fantastic episodes) and Outnumbered (great ratings for it too). Saw in New Year with The Robster who was excellent value. Great to see him get such great ratings. Well deserved. EastEnders on NYD was excellent too. Character focused, great scripts and brilliantly filmed and edited. The actors all delivered too. The BBC: The Nation's Favourite Broadcaster. Whilst I am missing BBC Strictly so much, Let It Shine looks good. I am looking forward to it. Happy New Year to all those on the ratings thread, both friend and foe.

A lot of the ratings this week - especially day time - are gaining from the post Christmas cheer me up blues and the extra few days/week some will have taken off work.
Given how well Father Brown does it has always been a bit of a surprise that this never got promoted into an evening or weekend slot and run weekly because it clearly is the kind of show that used to be common but is rare these days - an easy watch family show. So a bit wasted in daytime. At 2 pm it has been beating or coming close to a few shows commissioned for and screened during evenings. A decade ago this would have been a Sunday evening 8 pm series. BTW Marks and Gran posted a couple of days ago that they are still trying to get another channel to continue Goodnight Sweetheart but say - 'no news. Yet.' |

Good soap ratings last night but I watched both and was shocked at how poor Corrie was. It's been poor for a while now but being on after Emmerdald really highlighted it. That episode did not deserve 7.7m. EastEnders will smash the officials though I can see NYD and the 2nd January over 9m and the rest over 8m. EastEnders will have the highest soap rating of the year once again
![]() Coronation St should get its highest rating of the year on the Monday of the week the NT Awards are held. They sometimes kill a character off for a ratings boost that week. |

Yesterday's episode of The Chase peaked with 4.9m (30%) in its closing minutes. Easily beat the slot average of 2.9m (23%). Average share of 27.7%.
The Chase's biggest daytime overnight rating since 2014 was 3.97m (21%) on 29/12/14 - it aired at 17:35 with no Pointless up against it. That rating is from ITV Media so is probably not tapechecked. The biggest daytime rating ever is 4.33m (24.3%) on 21/01/13 (a snow day) - I certainly don't recall it being higher than that. The biggest celebrity edition rating is 4.82m/22.7% (exc +1) for 16/09/12. Again, if anyone's got some figures at hand, please feel free to share them. Sources: rzt, Broadcast, Digital Spy |

I think it would more likely dent Emmerdale. The BBC at Christmas can fling out the news at any time, and it will get a good rating. Some odd time on NYD, and its over 6m. The BBC have such a loyal following I'm certain the news moved to 7pm would dent Emmerdale and boost the rest of the BBC schedule. |

If they're running trailers for it already then yes it could well be Wednesdays. Like you I think Vera will get Sundays given the good ratings last year (plus they wouldn't need to find anything for 8pm).
A bit of a pity if so as I did think Good Karma looked like a good Sunday night drama, but it does tie in with Lygo wanting to inject more fun and lightness into the midweek schedule. Something like it could go down quite well midweek in the Winter. I presume if it does go there it'll be paired with Little Big Shots to create a lighter Wednesday night schedule. Did it look any good? |

I agree about Father brown. There are enough episodes for it to run on Saturdays for half a year instead of Pointless Celebrities. A 6pm pre-Strictly slot could do wonders for the channel. Perhaps the Bake Off debacle has made other broadcasters a bit uncomfortable about nicking other channels' shows re: Goodnight Sweetheart.
CAN anyone tell me the ratings on average for Father Brown this week? Also, anyone know the consolidated ratings for the Grantchester special on Xmas Eve? |

1981 to 1983 was a particularly bad period for the BBC iirc after the loss of headline acts and lack of creative scheduling- before Michael Grade took on the challenge.
That figure for Carry on Laughing is amazing, just a clip show. Whatever must have been the BBC opposition! |

Pretty incredible peak, though I don't doubt some of that, like with BBC1 is viewers tuning in early for the news - which itself is over 4m. |

What would be the biggest daytime rating of all time (excluding news specials, events or sports)?

Thanks
The data here shows that the Iplayer excuse ADP keeps making for EE isn't really valid. It down YOY in overnights and Iplayer figures. Its not making up the drop in ratings. Though obviously now its got a good boost from a big episode. Let's see. About a million added on IPlayer, on average, sometimes more, that's a " valid" point, not an " excuse" . And As you like twisting the facts, these are UP TO November, my posts were about the bigger December episodes running up to NYD, which the IPlayer access is not reported here, so your comparing my Late December figures with up to Noevember figures, oranges and apples! But makes a nice ( untrue) post! And quote me a single post where I mentioned YOY, I never did, yes YOY typically like soaps the figures are falling. I posted about the doom and gloom knee jerk reaction to holiday EE ratings. I mentioned that IPlayer wasn't considered. Over reactions here wanted to cancel the redevelopment at Elstree. But continue to make a headline about me, and take things out of context.....l. If you want to have a dig and carry it on, try to compare like with like. |

But makes a nice ( untrue) post! True I'm not looking at December because we don't have those figures yet, but given the recent trend up until December of this year, it dropping from last year. So it figures it should continue the same trend. The original point was that you said EE was top of Iplayer. My point was it always is, but as I said before, the ratings for it are dropping on both sides. So the facts are true. Its a bit 'pot kettle-black' suggesting my post is untrue, when you are regularly twisting facts. It is an 'excuse' to use Iplayer in the way you were, by suggesting BBC Iplayer is making up for the lower overnight. Yes its adding 1m, but that figure is still down from the year before, and so is the overnight. EE is down YOY that is my point. Iplayer does not make up for that drop, no matter how much you say 'EE is top of Iplayer' or ''will consolidate well'. It will do both, butboth are down. This is a discussion thread ADP. Not a school playground. Every time someone tries to disagree with one of your post, you take it as an attack or getting personal. |

EE ratings in 2016 were falling - never disputed, I never posted that, I did say knee heck reaction to a lower than expected NYD was incorrect, and suddenly we are up circa 2 million plus on Monday 2nd and everyone can see the big storylines had worked. Sundays NYD EE had its average lowered as it finished five minutes early and was not tap checked, something that was undersold here for a time until 15 minute averages were posted. It's also was carefully " omitted" on the Soap forum, on a EE ratings thread. |

I have never knowingly twisted facts, One Million added to EE on IPlayer ( typically) is valid, you now " confirm" it's true your comparing up to November, with my posts in late December, oranges and apples s, howere we can take them as an indication of what us typically added.
EE ratings in 2016 were falling - never disputed, I never posted that, I did say knee heck reaction to a lower than expected NYD was incorrect, and suddenly we are up circa 2 million plus on Monday 2nd and everyone can see the big storylines had worked. It's also was carefully " omitted" on the Soap forum, on a EE ratings thread. When the NYD figure was released, it was concluded as a poor rating for EE by many on here. That is true. For a NYD episode, promoted heavily, it only posted 6m. Tapechecked it was 6.3m. Its down YOY. The point you made was to suggest that its down YOY, but its stil top of Iplayer. My point is, it always is. So that makes no difference. Ignore the poster who said they should cancel the re-developmet. That is nonsense. EE is still a big deal for the BBC. |

You didn't have this problem when The X Factor went from 6.8m to 8.3m in one week (although you couldn't even bring yourself to praise it). |
