Bake Off's number last night was its third highest ever, only behind the 2014 and 2015 finals. Given that it launched with 10.4m, there's a good chance it could well stay above 10 million for the entire series, which would be an amazing feat.

Thanks Dan! I've been lurking for a while but decided to take the jump and make an account. Hopefully I can provide some insights on some things eventually!

Wasn't it Susanna Reid who was never, ever, going to leave the BBC ?

Well called, you three!

I think the awful 500 Questions lead-in was what killed it for Long Lost Family. We'll see next week when Chronicles of Nadiya faces LLF again.

Really phenomenal figure! I really hope it can stay about 10m all series. It feels like it's been ages since we've had a show with regular overnights above 10m.

This looks quite promising actually, it seems like a good concept. That said, ITV1's only other recent attempt at a panel show has been Play To The Whistle, which hasn't rated particularly well.

Has there ever been a good ITV panel show? Don't know why but it's a genre that only the BBC and Channel 4 have really excelled in, although Channel 5's most recent attempt wasn't half bad.

Peaked at 11.2m.

Amazing numbers!”

Wow! Sensational rating last night for the return of Bake Off. Absolutely huge numbers. I was expecting a similar launch rating to last year but to be up 1.1m is quite a feat - and on a exceptionally hot day too. Seems to be no stopping it once again. If it can build some momentum (like previous years), imagine how big the final could go!

Thank you!

Yes, I think 500 Questions did it for LLF as well. Plus having its momentum disrupted by the Olympics won't have helped. It ended last night actually, but it'll be back next year.

Next week Nadiya faces DCI Banks. I'd expect a narrow win for Banks (possibly only with +1) but it'll be close. Mr & Mrs won't be a great lead-in but it should be an improvement on 500 Questions.

Speaking of 500 Questions, Kevin Lygo was really scathing about it today in his Meet The Controller session. Can anyone remember the last time a controller rubbish end one of their shows whilst it was still on air as I can't?

Doesn't surprise me that he's rubbished it, to be honest. I enjoyed Episode 1 but only because I couldn't believe it had actually made it to air. I remember it being sent out to indies in 2013 and nobody wanted it. When someone finally did take it on they went through about 5 hosts.

Sony Channel has scheduled the premieres of Saving Hope season 4 and The Night Shift season 3 on Tuesdays from August 30th, with Younger season 2 going out on Wednesdays.

That's the first time in a while that they've got 3 premieres every week. It will be interesting to see how they rate, as the channel does poorly given the brand behind it, but a channel is only as strong as the programming that it puts out, and in the past they have been too reliant on low rent repeats.

It would be good to see them start competing with the likes of Universal Channel and Fox.

yeah, right. An August broadcast on one of the hottest days of the year inflates the figures! Still, we can see from your other posts you have a downer on the show so no need to take anything you say about its ratings remotely seriously

Agree.

I wonder if the same reason will be given for 8 pm Saturday and Sunday, when a certain returning no talent show gets 55% of the GBBO viewers?

This weekend, " everyone" will be,
- out in the sun.
- in the pub.
- having BBQs,
- Still on holiday.
- no access to TV guides.

Or

Watching a feature length Casualty.

Well who's going to sit out on their terrace at night?
I'm just of the (fairly thought-out) opinion that temperature only makes a difference when the sun is actually shining on this hemisphere. "Heat" is only a valid explanation in certain months - no need for the aggression.

Wow - and they still ended up with Giles. I've watched the show twice and I wouldn't watch it again..

What certain months are these? Yesterday was the hottest day of the year. It didn't suddenly turn cold and dark at 8pm. You can't seem to except it's just very popular

No idea if this had been picked up on, but an interesting buy for Drama. I must admit, their content has been excellent lately. I've seen the miniseries already (was holidaying in the US when it was on in 2014) and it's of a quality I'd associate with Channel 4 or even BBC2, so no idea why it's taken this long to get picked up.

You can't blame him for having a go, I'm sure the money was decent. It just felt too much like a parody for me, what with all the fake drama whenever a "lightning run" or "battle" was announced. At times I was sure I was watching Numberwang.

The same can be said about you, you have a clear grudge against X Factor/ITV. Consequently, your posts become boring and predictable. Everything that you post somehow involves ITV, don't you think that's sad for a company/show you don't like?

As exciting as Casualty will be, X Factor will beat it. Casualty should have a good time shift though.

On another note, the BBC have commissioned a 30 minute comedy based on Nigel Farage "resigning" from UKIP. That'll go down well with the Daily Express reading anti-BBC UKIP loving cretins.

Amazing for GBBO.
I normally love food progs but with this I just can't get into it. I tried again last night but no it's not for me. To get that figure though is great and kudos for all involved.

It's less about food and more about reality tv. Thing is though it comes across as authentic. Ordinary folks doing ordinary task of baking. It's so simple but it works because it's got the ingredients right.

So tomorrow night CBB will hold its final, despite the fact Ch5 have already chosen their winner (from the start) and will do anything to make sure their chosen winner wins (including removing Christopher Biggins as his biggest compeition.)

This character has been given a warning every day, and all have been a FINAL warning!!

I am pissed off with Ch5. They are so clearly favouring one housemate with prefferentual treatment. This is most likely because this character is on one of Viacom's shows and they want to hand him his own series.

What a load of rubbish. This series of CBB has been a total mess.

Something major has just happened with CBB, and as long term fan, I think will kill Big Brother once and for all.

Live Feed tonight just aired. I think C5 completely forgot they were still on air. Basically, everyone was getting ready for bed, the HMs were called to the DR, they danced to a song...
Then they all head to bed... and BB said "goodnight finalists" like they do everytime on the last night.

Then HMs got up again because it was shot, the lights came back on and HMs were awake again. Basically they scripted that segment for tomorrows show, and then will edit it to look like it happened when they went to bed. BB then told them to "get ready, tomorrow is a long day" and I heard the word "take" heard a few times.

Big Brother is finished. Whoever was in charge of the feed tonight will get fired, most people will, and Rylan and Emma are getting a bashing on Twitter. How will C5 wriggle out of this one?
