According to the Sunday Mirror Bake Off will stay on the BBC, but they'll have to double the amount paid to Love Productions from £7.5m to £15m over three years.
ITV offered £21m, but Mary and Paul apparently made it very clear they did not want to leave the BBC. http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/g...s-snub-8720976 |

Bringing Cheryl and Dannii in would replicate the Series 5-7 panel in full though - that's the only card they have left to play. I agree, Sharon and Nicole make for a better panel and the problem runs deeper than the on screen talent... well, this year anyway!
The only thing The X Factor and Casualty have on their side is the weather appears to have been awful across parts of the country which may have kept people indoors, even on holiday. As I said, I really enjoyed it tonight, but obviously it's way too early to say what it means for the series and show going forwards. |

I don't think anyone would care about the series 5-7 panel being back. They basically did that with series 11, just without Dannii (who wasn't an integral part of it anyway) and the numbers didn't improve.

If true it is fantastic news for BBC. Well done Paul and Mary for sticking to their guns and showing loyalty is actually worth in effect more than £6M. It is BBC through and through. I think Love Productions owe BBC for building the show up.
Well done to Paul and Mary for in effect doubling their pay packets at the expense of us licence payers. |

It could be a case of too little too late - the production choices last year were a disaster overall. But we shall see; a lot can happen in three months.
Just trying to get through Casualty... there's a lot of padding! As far as X Factor is concerned, its going to take a lot just to reclaim the buzz that used to surround it. |

I've recorded Casualty to watch later, even though I don't watch it, thinking it was good to be an impressive ep for the 30th.
Clearly shouldn't have bothered. The tired Casualty continues too trundle on as does the even more feeble Holby City. |

Very pacy, well written and acted, and that helicopter stunt was one of the best I've seen on UK TV ever. The score by the BBC National Orchestra was beautiful. All the past characters popping up via video messages cut through the action was a great touch. It was very beautifully shot, the production values were in another league to anything I've seen in Casualty years back. In fact I'd say they far surpass any other serial drama in the modern age. It had political references in the script, tons of emotion, fantastic action and spectacle, and I had my heart in my mouth more or less throughout - and I say all that as a non regular viewer of the programme who doesn't know most of the current cast. The script constantly lead me up paths and made me think I knew what was coming, then threw me off. It was a terrific ensemble piece and the teams should be proud, without a shred of CGI in sight that stunt was something to behold. Proper jaw dropper when the blades chopped up those unfortunate extras. You seem hard to please H. Always harking on about why this show and that show is not what you want, but it strikes me very little pleases you nowadays, and you don't want that to change. |

Ha true. It definitely felt like a show only a risky channel would've greenlit, I'm honestly amazed Channel 4 didn't snap it up for a third series but they don't seem to be really in the business of poaching shows.

GBBO is reliant on the talent, I presume Mel and Sue would probably go to any channel but the show would lose viewers anyway going to commercial TV but Paul and Mary not going, ITV would have a huge flop on their hands given how much money they would have paid and the press would be on it

A late prediction but I think X factor will be 8.2 million with +1, and Casualty will be on 6 million.
I'm really looking forward to the sitcom season, especially Porridge. It would have been good if they managed to do a new episode of My Family with Kris Marshall back again too. |

For all that the headlines will be 'BBC forced to DOUBLE price for GBBO', I'm still of the opinion that £7.5m was a bit of a bargain for all these years, and £15m probably accurately reflects its worth. Does anyone have costs for comparable factual/entertainment shows, that get high viewing figures - per episode etc? |

If we're to do the sums, and this is Bake Off alone:
- £15m divided by 3 years = £5m - £5m divided by 10 episodes = £500k Which is still cheaper than what the likes of Strictly and The X Factor cost. |

I suspect there won't be many more BBC commissions going the way of Love Productions after this.

Well done to Paul and Mary for in effect doubling their pay packets at the expense of us licence payers. Secondly, if they had gone to ITV at £21m then (by the same logic) their pay would have tripled at consumer's expense. |

@ChristPA
So #TheXFactor launched with 6.801m viewers and a 34.0% share. Peaking with 7.526m viewers. Could be better, could have been worse. Share suggests Casualty did quite well. Tonight and the officials will be interesting. |

Of course, we need to wait and see how the next few weeks pan out given that it was Bank Holiday and Casualty on t'other side. Edit - I watched Casualty instead of X Factor and I agree it felt very hammy and completely far fetched. Too long and too drawn out. Nice idea though but not executed well. |

I have to agree with H I'm afraid in regards to Casualty. It may have worked better as two episodes rather than an all in one; it certainly felt like that with Pam St. Clement's character disappearing halfway through and the family with the drone being introduced halfway through. Whilst a nice touch the "home made" VTs became laborious very quickly and detracted from the plot. It also meant there was a sudden break in the suspense/tension which they were building up. Some scenes - particularly Charlie rallying the troops - felt very hammy and unnatural.
They have it in them to do better; the first ever Casualty@Holby City was excellent. For me, this wasn't. |
