So #TheXFactor launched with 6.801m viewers and a 34.0% share. Peaking with 7.526m viewers.

Could be better, could have been worse. Share suggests Casualty did quite well. Tonight and the officials will be interesting.
Cheers. Presumably that's with +1. Around the expected figure considering the increased competition and poorly received previous series. I'll stick my neck out and say I don't think there will be a similar decline to last year tonight - but then The X Factor is in a downward spiral so it's possible.

Isn't the peak around last year's launch average?

I was dreading a number in the 5's, so I'm relieved it was a couple 100,000 off 7 million.

Can I be the first to say that that is not very good? *hides in a corner*.

Of course, we need to wait and see how the next few weeks pan out given that it was Bank Holiday and Casualty on t'other side.
I didn't expect much. It was a few hundred thousand higher than I thought actually but it's not a great start. It didn't completely lay an egg but nobody will be boasting either.

Of course it's far higher than anything ITV have aired in months (bar Corrie and its higher than most episodes of that) but like you say, the next few weeks are very important. Tonight could be bad as it lost over a million on night two in both 2015 and 2014.

As an aside, quite a lot of people on twitter commented about how good the X Factor was last night, so there's a potential for it to rise tonight/not drop much.

After the hype, the running around shows like This Morning, that's a dire embrassment.

They did. A few critics too so I wouldn't expect a collapse. There was praise for The Xtra Factor as well.

Last year got 7.6m, this year got 6.8m - so an 11% drop. Be interesting to see if Casualty contributed.

Also I wonder how badly the surrounding shows did (ie. how badly Go For It flopped).

Thanks. Second lowest ever launch then, nearly a million down on 2015.

As I said just now I don't think the decline will be so bad this time around as yesterday's show seemed to be received than last year's but then... I think 2014's launch was received reasonably well and that still saw a decline.

Goodness knows. There's a long way to go but it's never going to return to the top sphere of TV shows.

Yep. Within 200,000 of the launch 10 years ago and those figures were received much more positively than last night's, despite ratings being a fair bit lower now.

The X Factor did the best it could tbh. The weather and competition played a big part, I do think ITV need to promote it more in the future. It will probably get a higher rating tonight due to the good word of mouth.

It still beat Casualty, and 7 million during the August bank holiday is still commendable. Or at least better than the sub 2m films that have been propping up ITV.

To be honest, I don't know why I'm even giving you the time of day because you were always going to comment with a negative post. It's getting boring.

Also, you don't watch This Morning do you because it's on ITV? So how would you know?

So you as expected started your annual four months on here slagging off anything on ITV and praising to the hilt anything on BBC.

Casualty around double the viewers on the lottery opposition from last year and 900k up on itself. Very good result for it there.

Im imagining last years X Factor ranking as the worst ever on many fronts so presumably this comeback was not only battling a long standing downward trend but also quite a hangover drag factor too. BGT dipped as time went on this year, XF is going to have to hit a few chords this time with its rehashed cast-I don't think there are many more tweaks left. Having said that, no channel is going to turn its nose up at 6.8 million on a Saturday night.

A decent rating overall. Obviously not as big as it was several years ago. It was still establishing itself 10 years ago and starting its rise.

The lower TXF numbers for last night should give ITV some room for negotiation over price for the next contract renewal. If the trend continues tonight as per the last couple of years, ITV may be able to bring TXF in at a lower cost per series.

A show bringing in between 6 and 7 million a night is still a good thing to have - especially if it is cheaper.

Not a terrible start for The Xtra Factor and it did feel fresh... to those who don't watch Bit on The Side anyway!

The difference between 2006 and 2016 is the former saw a 1.8m year-on-year. Last night saw a 0.9m decline on what was an awful figure to start with. To put it into context, it's list nearly 3m viewers in two years.

All things considered,i don't think thats to bad for the x factor. Please be fair in comparisons with last year. This year it faced a heavily trailed casualty episode that got twice as many viewers then last years crappy lottery show.
