Decent figures all round except the Ellie Simmonds prog which looks a disaster.

Word of mouth is going to have to work very hard for X Factor based on that.

From rzt:
BBC 1 Countryfile - 5.73m (34.8%) Antiques Roadshow - 5.62m (27.9%) Are You Being Served? - 5.04m (24.5%) Porridge - 4.39m (21.8%) ITV (inc. +1) Ellie Simmonds: Swimming with Dophins - 1.51m (9.2%) The X Factor - 6.26m (31.0%) * peak - 7.08m (33.1%) at 20:50 Victoria - 5.70m (29.6%) * 6.03m (29.9%) at 21:00 * 5.25m (33.1%) at 22:30 Good start for Victoria, winning the slot quite comfortably in the end (surprisingly so). I'm sure in an ideal world ITV would have liked more as that isn't close to Downton levels but for a new drama launch on August Bank Holiday it's pretty good going I think. I thought the comedies would be a bit higher. X Factor came in a it higher than I thought it would. Obviously it isn't a great figure but it's pretty flat versus last year (down 3% in audience, up 3% in share). I think they'll be relieved it wasn't worse as the retention is better than last year. Awful for Ellie Simmonds!

OK for the sitcoms given the 5m+ drama competition and it being a bank holiday weekend. Though I'm surprised Porridge isn't closer to AYBS. On those figures I'd say AYBS is the more likely of the two to run to series.

Well a smaller decline for The X Factor than the last couple of years. I never quite get why Bank Holiday Sunday is such a pain to it? Because the older audience drift to Antiques Roadshow and the younger audience isn't around to pick up the difference?

X Factor pretty much even with 2015, no major problem there. Predicting a timeshift of 2-2.5m for this weekend's shows. Should be over 7m next week.

Good rating for Victoria, ITV made it very clear it continues tonight by mentioning it at the start and at the end.
The sitcoms didn't do as well as people on here thought they would do. |

I think it may have already worked to a degree - the show lost approaching 2m viewers between night's this time last year. This time round it 'only' lost 600k. At the very least it kept more of the viewers it had.
Forget its X Factor, the genre as a whole looks tired now. Singing stars, star creation-there is more interest in their private life antics than the pure pursuit of talent. |

Victoria did better than many expected. It had lots of promotion so it always had a chance. The BBC1 comedies were promoted by not being promoted, you didn't see many clips in trailers did you? Also it looks like people want their Porridge with Ronnie Barker.

What's the logic with a repeats channel like Dave not repeating its US acquisitions like Jay Leno's Garage (no repeat), Last Man on Earth (no repeat towards the end of the last run) and Suits (wee small hours repeat only)? Surely they would've bought them with an intention to repeat?

Disappointed that X Factor still managed to top the ratings last night.
Usual comments about the figures. It's good by today's general standards.....poor by its past performances.......poor compared to Bake Off and Strictly and I'm A Celebrity.....blah, blah, blah. But the bottom line for ITV is whether or not the programme is still profitable to them. And that's something only their accountants will be able to tell them. At some rating TXF stops making them a profit. But, hey!...maybe that figure is 2.8m, I don't know. |

Surely Victoria has the potential to soar tonight, given it's only facing a silly Thor film on BBC One that will only play out to 2-3m viewers? I'd be surprised if it doesn't at least retain its 5.7m (incl. +1) from last night.
Those sitcom figures are on the modest side. Not sure about the BBC's strategy of sandwiching them all together like they have done. |

Worth noting Xtra Factor really took a hit last night against tougher opposition from the main two channels. Unless there's a controversial moment on a Sunday show - as it's live all the way through it could happen at any stage - that's likely to continue. Can anyone remember how it did on first Sunday last year, please?

What did Avengers Assemble get when it first aired on the Beeb? |

It's a Marvel Premiere. I haven't seen it, not that I would watch Victoria even if all other channels mysteriously went off-air at that time.
What did Avengers Assemble get when it first aired on the Beeb? The Marvel film will attract the younger viewers and should pull in 4m+. |

Victoria did exactly as I predicted last night ''5.7m''. And I think given the ratings the BBC have had to promote the comedies V ITV's Vitctoria I think ITV will be happy to an extent. The comedies didn't do as well as I predicted, but I think that 5m figure is higher than the two will get next Friday. I suspect AYBS? will get a series as will Porridge. |

Victoria would've been aided by the XF lead in as well. ITV need to fix their scheduling. Another sub 2m lead in for XF..Next week will be very telling for XF. It should get 7m even with a clash with Strictly.

It's a pain to it because a large chunk of the young audience that is normally in on a Sunday isn't. Add in the usual depression you get on a Bank Holiday weekend (particularly to young skewing shows) and that's the result. It's the same reason why Dragons Den (last night's other young skewing show) is way off last week.
They should start it 2 weeks later (so it doesn't clash with Strictly launch). And why does it finish 2 weeks before Christmas? The final is on the 11th December this year. Why are they throwing away the opportunity of a high rated show the week before Christmas? |

I don't understand why they always start on Bank Holiday weekend if it affects the ratings. Just why??
