Hmmm. Not really a fan of this MTO.
Could be tactical.

Venus and Ram beat Mirza and Bops, so they are in the gold medal match in the mixed.
I was staggered when I realised yesterday that Venus is still in. I thought she seemed ill in her singles match and assumed the doubles loss was due to her but maybe not.

I don't think it's Angie's style. Not that I can remember anyway.

My thinking too, she's got form as well. Hope I'm wrong though.

She was being outplayed. Probably stalling for time to get her head together.

She was, she had some sort of virus.

Venus gets a medal, Serena doesn't. Not what you would've thought at the beginning! The same with Delpo

Oh ok, I can't think of any instances right now, but I stand corrected.

Serena does have a shoulder injury, so she wasn't 100% either, but fortunately for Venus, there was a couple of days break between her early losses and the start of the mixed-doubles. Apparently she had the virus before she got to Rio (so not Zika), so it sounds as if it has run its course and she's back on form just in time. If she wins gold, she'll be the first tennis player to win singles, doubles and mixed golds.

7.30 UK time, but it will depend on the 2 matches before hand not over running.

I've no idea about Kerber's MTO, but she has hardly had to play lights out to be up in this set. Monica is all over the shop.

It begs the question, why didn't Konta play this good against Kerber?

Thanks. I was thinking I was gonna miss it, as I had it in my brain that it was at 4pm UK time, from looking at the schedule earlier.

She played the reputation not the match.

In Aptos it's an all GB final:

Dan Evans vs Cameron Norrie, who came through qualifying. Someone posted about Norrie earlier on in the thread.

I don't understand why the gold medal match is best of 5. It's daft.
Because 3 sets is to 5 what twenty20 is to test cricket. One can be played by any chancer and the other sorts the men from the boys.

Can't believe they've hidden this match on the Red Button. BBC 4 is playing pointless golf replays.
